MidnightMan thanks again for the superb content, I myself am getting to grips with my content creating and streaming and your channels been a massive help. 1 question I have is that, unlike your setup, I was forced to take the NDI Plugin + OBS Link approach as opposed to the game capture option you have on this video, would you know why it doesn’t track the HD60S or if it does and I haven’t configured properly?

I had to drop a tip to help you after seeing that you're using the software encoder on a system with dedicated graphics. Don't choose the x264 encoder. That's the software encoder and if you have the dedicated graphics on your MB Pro there should be an option that says Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder. Your CPU usage will drop down to 1-2% leaving plenty of power to run other things like youtube videos etc.. Typically, if you're going to stream at 1080p the minimum bitrate should be 5000. I think you will find these settings to work as long as you have a MB Pro with an i7 16 gb of ram along with dedicated graphics w/ 4gb. When using the hardware encoder the bitrate will jump over your setting sometimes but there is a limit bitrate setting as well if you must. Good luck.

would a mac mini be a good computer to stream/record gameplay off an elgato hd60s (PS4)? I’m in the market for one and I’ve seen 2 people be able to record gameplay and edit no problem but never saw anyone stream and not have issues? I know the mac mini lacks a GPU but I’m willing to invest in a eGPU for the extra power. Hopefully you can answer my question since you’re basically my last hope lol. I’m at a lost right now idk if I should save money for a new MacBook Pro 16 inch or a PC for my elgato setup. I wanna play on console and use a laptop or pc for my stream cuz I have an elgato Hd60 plus. I have everything I need but the pc/laptop. I want at least an i7 Intel cpu with 16gb ram. What other specs should I be looking for or what do you recommend? I also want to use that laptop/pc to edit videos too. If I get a pc I always have the option to play games on it. I wanna see how Warzone feels on a pc with controller.
If you're looking to do PC gaming, I would go with PC then as it is tailored more towards running those programs. You need to look at having a dedicated graphics card, Nvidia, Radeon, and AMD have good graphic cards that are pretty reliable with my knowledge. You looking to build it yourself or get a pre-built?

Make sure it’s quad, and I’d recommend dedicated graphics. MacBook Pro would be best tbh laptop wise.

Awesome video! I have a Mac mini M1 and just started trying to set up streaming. Things were working great with the elgato software with an old capture card. I upgraded to an HD60S+ so that I could use OBS. I went all in creating scenes with overlays and stingers and now it’s dropped frame city! I’m assuming that M1 should be able to hang just fine so is that just a settings thing? I haven’t tried tweaking those just yet. Thanks for the advice!
I have the macbook air with the m1 chip brand new and my videos lag on 1080p i dont understand
OBS/SLOBS is still not optimized for the M1 chip, I ran a test and couldn't crack over 30fps.

Hey MM check out the video from a user called “Generational Gamer” titled “Quickly Configure OBS with Mac” where he basically adds the elgato audio as an extra source in OBS rather than having to launch Game Capture HD software and then OBS for it to get recognized. What do you think of this technique?
love your videos bro very helpful for someone like me who is not great with tech . I've been messing about with my Streamlabs obs settings to try get the best output picture for my stream but most of the time my quality is blurry and not very good at all . My MacBook Air is probably the issue as im guessing its not good enough to use to stream off my PS4 . What do you suggest I do ? Am I best just streaming off the PS4 until I get a better PC to use ?
Been breaking my head with settings changing bitrates does not help my iMac is 2017 7th gen 27 '' still pretty powerful , before the macos Catalina worked fine, but now even after bug fixes with OBS, stream does not appears on YT for some reason, even when OBS says it is transmitting. I watched already so many videos, including yours, I am running out of ideas why it stopped working for me almost like RUclips is blocking . P.S if I stream from PS4 it works fine so it is not my router or ISP which leaves my imac, obs studio and YT... any tips how to solve this mystery?
I have the original HD 60 and a 2016 MBP custom maxed out. When you said in another video that the HD 60 won’t work, what do you mean? I was using it to stream in the base ElGato app on the Mac, but I’m very new to all this. Do I need to upgrade, or can I stick with my current one?
Really helpful video, but I wanted help on the recording side of things. My macbook has about the same specs as yours and I’m using the hd60s+, thanks to your reviews.
However even 10 seconds of recording is hard for my computer to record smoothly at 1080p60. you suggested this may be due to using the usb to thunder adapter, but that doesnt seem like a problem since obs shows smooth playback in real time.
Hope you see this my man, if not I’ll keep tinkering with it :)
What computer do you have? If you're dropping frames and lagging it could be a performance issue.
MidnightMan its actually a 2017 macbook pro 13 inch, 16 gb ram and dual core i7 processor. noticably a bit less performance but surprisingly, theres a TON of lost frames. I’m thinking of giving the game capture hd software a try, probably gonna be my only choice (at least for recording).
MidnightMan Hey, it turns out that lowering the resolution in system preferences to the lowest setting made the recording really smooth!

@@tendokondo440 Mac settings. i essentially lightened the load on computer while obs was running by lowering the resolution of everything it is displaying.

Great video, man, thank you! You mentioned Bootcamp at the top. Are you using Windows or Mac OS to run OBS? I’ve been getting some serious encode lag using an quad core iMac.
I'm currently using bootcamp on to run OBS on windows, performance and quality is a bit better.

MidnightMan I figured it out bro. When bringing in the HD60 you have to put high. High is 1080. Don’t hit 720 preset. Hit high

If I have an elgato hd60s+ and a wave 3 plugged into my M1, do I still need the ishowu app or can I stream without it? Is that app only to record desktop audio? Thank you in advance 🙃

Hi i was wondering if there are any work arounds for having to start the game capture software before being able to hear/stream the game audio. Game Capture is not supported for M1 macbooks so I can't use it to start capturning game audio and I have been unable to find another way to start hearing the game audio. Everything else works immediatly when I open OBS but the game audio is not registering in the mixer or being recorded.
MM need your opinion ! I have a 2021 MacBook pro 16 inch with 2.6 6-core intel and AMD Radeon 5500 8 gig of ram(dedicated) and 32 gig ram. Yet when I run OBS, it should s like a jet plain and the Activity Monitor says it’s using over 100 percent of the CPU….. is that normal?

That's weird, is it only when you stream? You may be using too much of your internet bandwidth when you stream, causing it to bottle neck and have devices thrown off the connection. Have you tried using an ethernet cable?

My macbook fan is going CRAZY when I open OBS and try to stream. Is there any solution to that? I have 32 GB of ram and I am not sure why this is happening.
i am only able to add the Elgato capture card to NDI Source and not to video capture device.. I have an I Mac with Big Sur and my gameplay audio is not coming threw, I tried so many things but I don't get it...

I have a Q I'm not sure if you can help me with -- I have a 2019 imac, i7 processor, 16gb of ram and everything runs smoothly with these settings while recording in OBS except my imac fans sound like they are on full blast! I find this strange because in OBS it shows my CPU usage isn't going much over 20% ? Do you experience much fan noise on your Macbook and do you think this is something the bootcamp partition could help with?
Yes I do experience fan noise as well, even at those percentages. Performance is improved the more you turn up the encoding speed (mine in this video is at ultra fast) but you’re video quality will suffer. Partition won’t fix but so much because you’re still using the same specs, but windows does seem to handle a little better.

MidnightMan!!! My obs isn't reading my capture card which is a 'Elgato game hd60'. Not the S, but shouldn't it still work? I hooked it up to my console. It runs through it's own Elgato software. It doesn't respond to obs. I downloaded all the programs for obs on my Mac. It still doesn't seem to work. Do you know what I should do?
HD60 is not compatible. Get the HD60S+ if you’re computer can run it. If you have a dual core wait to upgrade your computer as a whole. You’ll need a quad core or better.
So I have the Elgato 60s and mac os. How were you able to add your game capture and stuff because for me I have to use NDI and obs Link

When your streaming does your Mac have a really loud fan noise?

Where do I plug the headset to; the controller or elgato wave program. I want to hear the game audio without a delay from the console, and hear spotify, discord, and chat notification from the Mac???
Plug into computer. You won’t hear a delay with the S+

Hi there! Stumbled upon your video when trying to set up my streaming stuff for my switch! I have the elgato HD60s and am using OBS. I have the 2020 macbook pro 13 inch (but it is not all specked out, but a step above base model). When I use OBS, the screen on my stream is jumping. I get an "error" message saying that I don't have a dedicated GPU. Do you think buying an external GPU is needed? Or do you think I could fix it? Thanks if you read this!
If your machine is causing frame drops, yes you can look into an eGPU which attaches to your ports. That will improve performance

I’m having an issue we’re I can’t capture anything when selecting my device first of it says the elgato hd60 s must be plugged in with a usb 3? Mine is hook up with a usb c to usb c like midnight mans and because I have a similar Mac book to yours 10th gen quad core i5 processor and I also get an error message saying I must have a dedicated gpu. When I google requirement it said Any 4th generation quad‑core Intel Core i5 CPU (i5-4xxx) includes an Intel HD graphic card or better ( except the i5-4402EC ). Other newer/better Intel CPU series include Intel HD, Intel Iris or Intel Iris Pro (or better) graphic cards. ... All these graphic cards are supported by Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. My Mac book says it was iris plus graphics so I thought that would work? Do I need to go with an external gpu as well? What did you go with?
why do you choose OBS over SLOBS
I just started streaming with my 2017 MBPro, but I go into OBS and select video capture device and the Elgato isn't available to select. But if I go into NDI source, it pulls through. That doesn't follow what you said to do, and I'm all confused by it. Anyone have any help?
My MacBook Pro 15 16gb ram battery drains when running one streaming even plugged in. Is this common for yours as well?
No, but it drains fast not plugged in. You’ll need your laptop serviced to update the battery

Bro, great video, I have to watch your video like 20 times each, and still have problems, I have. 2018 iMac 64GB ram, Radeon Pro 570 4GB card, and after following your output and video settings, I’m still getting extremely laggy and slow screen when I change between scenes. Can you please make a video explaining why Mac have this issues and how we can make it run better while using Streamlbas with “ANIMATED OVERLAYS” Please!!!
What’s the processor? From those specs you mentioned alone I’m surprised something would be laggy

@@MidnightMan Thanks, I have the NDI plugin running but you had it displayed in the Audio drop-down within settings.. I cant / dont have that... I mean it is working so no big deal, just odd as to why there are differences you know :)

how do you hear the music from your desktop if you have the desktop audio on Monitor Off?
Because the desktop audio is heard through the OS

Anything MacBook Pro or better I would recommend. SLOBS pushes the CPU hard, you'll want the power.
Hi, i Own a Macbook pro 16" why don't you select the Apple vt h264 hardware encoder option? of this way the graphics card wouldn't do all the work? in my case the AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB
Software encoding puts the work on the cpu, freeing up the graphics to do more. Been running well for me

Thanks so much for this settings deep dive! I'm starting up streaming with my PS4 and Mac and there are constant tech issues but most troubleshooting articles only give the PC point of view. I'm going to try your advice tomorrow and hopefully fix my lag issues. Love your vibe, thanks again!
Happy to help! Big thing to pay attention to when it comes to lag is the bitrate and encoding speed. Set the speed higher to have less lag, or lower to improve quality.

Does anyone else have the issue getting OBS to recognize their HD60S in "video capture device" mode? I cant get mine to appear & am trying to avoid display capture or NDI because they both seem less than ideal @midnightman
superfast doesnt equal superfast cpu‘s!! actually the faster the cpu is, the slower your setting can be, the higher the quality will be!!
I found this out the hard way. The faster it was set, the lower the quality as it took less time to encode the video.
Any fixes for getting rid of fan noise from MacBook?
Have your encoding setting to where mine is at ultra fast. Quality will be reduced though of capture.
MidnightMan got ya cause I have a new MacBook 16inch and my fans we’re going crazy but I was using an Elgato camlink 4K. I think I’ll just use a 720p resolution. Hopefully that helps and your recommended settings. Thanks!
