Tim and Steve are heroes. They're never hyping anything up unless it is warranted and are always looking out for the consumers. Looking at most other tech channels makes you feel only hyped for a product/feel bad for not having that product, those videos act like advertisements. Hardware Unboxed and Monitors Unboxed videos on the other hand feel like cold, hard analysis of the products and very fair conclusions in the end which actually make sense. They're the antidote to the unhealthy consumerism that most companies desire and then some.
I used to do that, like pay extra for a few more FPS for a RAM kit for example, where I would need to be a cyborg to actually notice the difference if there was actually any. Nowadays I really look for the best bang for the buck and call it a day. Plus, I don't even have time to game properly anymore.
You have to be careful with that as well, however. Each human is different. What you might not see or care about could well be visible for someone else. There even may be a consensus that something is "better" than something else, but total disagreement on by how much.
I just grabbed one at my local Micro Center for $870 open box. They had 3 of them, one had a dead pixel the other some sort of a white vertical line on the screen the guy said and the other had a scratch on the screen so I asked to look at the one with the scratch. It wasn't on the screen there was a little tiny smudge in the rear white plastic. A non issue for me so grabbed it. It's really nice. I was using a C1 oled so this is essentially that but brighter in an ultrawide setup with higher brightness and refresh rate. It's perfect.
The red tinge in the black of the alienware monitor in bright light conditions is NOT a bad anti reflective coating, but the Quantum Dots! Because they don't preserve the polarization of light, they have to be infront of the polarization layer, which normally surpressed reflection of environmental light. The tinge is red, because the quantum dots (as any fluorescent material) can only emit light at lower (redder) frequencies than they absorb.
Some materials can release at a higher frequency then they absorb by having the electron pushed up two layers by absorbing two photons instead of one before re-emitting.
Samsung also fixed this issue on the 2023 tv’s which would lead me to believe that it isn’t the quantum dots. They specifically mentioned making changes to their polarization layer and coatings to reduce any glare from ambient light
You don't buy OLED to use it in a lit room or during daytime. OLEDs (TVs included) excel at NIGHT with lights dimmed or off. I have tons of OLED devices and they are awesome at night, not so much during the day, however still more than fine here. I prefer QD-OLED myself. 3rd gen WOLED is good as well tho. But 1st + 2nd gen WOLED clearly is beaten by QD-OLED.
Nice review. I bought the Alienware AW3423DWF three weeks ago and I'm so far absolutely happy and blown away by this monitor. Regarding the use for office work, I set the windows size for text to 150% and there are no issues for me and I'm also very sensitive to it, which was my most "fear" about the QD-OLED. And once getting the 21:9 gaming experience, I don't want to miss it, too. The LG seems to be a very good monitor, as well. It's good to see that there are more options out there.
I bought the aw3423dwf in January and ended up returning it for the standard aw3423dw because of how bad the HDR problems were. Every single game was clipping like mad, the aw3423dw's HDR is much better every though they should be about the same
Thanks for this comparison! I don’t see many comparisons out between the new OLEDs out yet. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Would be nice seeing a comparison between all OLEDs monitors releasing this year+ Alienware
Great reviews! An important correction for 18:32, aw3423dwf can downscale 4k60hz input on hdmi with console mode enabled, tested on ps5 just now, then it’s presented as 16:9 1440p but more clear vs native 1440p input
My Alienware dwf was delivered yesterday and it’s amazing so far (only a couple hours of use.) Something to be aware of is the height adjustment when using the stand. The max height was way too short for me. I had to use a monitor arm to bring it up to eye level.
@@dominicemerson2438 haha I’m 6’4” and the desk top sits at 29” tall. Comfortable seating position, ergonomic, etc. Maybe it’s just me but I was looking down at the monitor when using the stand.
Lol I always use books I have already read. I really want the DWF because my "main" PC is using a LCD, a decent 144HZ but eh LCD seemed cool back in the day when it was new. Think the height should be fine for my desk. My CRT monitors on the other hand use a couple books to get them up to a nice level. Funny enough I have been solely gaming on the CRT setup because the late model high end ones are unmatched by LCD. Never even seen a ultrawide, hows it feel after a couple days of use?
I actually owned all three of these as well and ended up going with the DWF model for similar reasonings as you. It just visually looked better regardless of how accurate it is. The warranty was a huge one to me and The more bright image was the final nail in the coffin that had me return the others
@@lefteriseleftheriades7381 unfortunately not near me. I bought the LG first but it was on pre-order. While waiting on it I learned a out the DW and I immediately bought it. I was using it for a couple days (still waiting on the LG) when RUclips recommended me a video on the DWF. After watching that I ordered it and decided to return the DW since it'd only been a few days and I was having issues. Fast forward a week after getting the DWF the LG shows up finally. I put it on my GFs desk and compared and decided I liked the DWF the most and am sending the others back
@@livedreamsg There could be a place with display versions of monitors for you to try. Microcenter and Best Buy do it, but their selection isn't universal.
I got the Alienware AW3423DW. First i wasn't a huge fan of ultrawides but after using it for one month i was completely hooked. The colors look absolutely amazing and games with hdr like rdr2 look stunning almost like real life. The only downside is the fan. I think i will change it in the future because i love this screen too much otherwise.
The ultrawide format is always overlooked in favour of 4k etc..to me ultrawide is the best way to play games and proper added value from the monitor. 4k is obv sharper but for people that mainly play single player games or coop games damn ultrawide is something else. It adds so much and rdr2 was a blast in 21:9, I'd love if more devs implemented proper support though, but it's getting better.
@@enricod.7198 Completely agree! I wasn't sure because I also play a lot of overwatch and battfelield which are quite competitive but I must say it's amazing playing those at that screen. I actually prefer playing those game competitively on a ultrawide and i think i even got better. Otherwise u can always play with black bars which is absolutely fine too.
I’ve first seen both Alienware screens on ltt and was interested, saw your reviews to both and picked up the AW3423DWF. Thanks for your hard work, I really appreciate! This monitor is absolutely fantastic! Keep up your work, as it surely helps people like me, who don’t spend their money easily on such expensive things.
Yesterday I was trying hard to find a comparison between those 2 (or 3) monitors, but I gave up because I thought the 2 monitors were too different, so nobody compared them yet. But here it is, and this video will help me decide which one I will buy soon! THANKS!
@@dante2845 I chose the AW3423DWF and I love it, but I'd recommend checking the prices and go for the better offer (unless you chose the widescreen like I did, and i definitely don't regret it!)
I had the AW DW, LG 27 inch oled and new Samsung G8 oled, I took the AW back and trying to decide between the LG and G85SB. I play a lot of call of duty and FPS games and I have to say I keep going back to the LG because you can tell a difference in input lag and response times while playing FPS games. But the G8 Oled is definitely brighter and picture looks amazing and colors just pop especially in HDR. It is a truly a tough choice either got with faster better response times or better picture and cost more.
I was in the same boat and the problem was specific to the DW. The DWF fixes the input lag problem entirely and feels just as snappy & responsive as the 27GR95QE despite having a lower refresh rate. Real shame too, because it certainly felt like the hardware GSYNC module in the DW provided *_the smoothest_* VRR experience I've had in many years. This was really apparent in Elden Ring which still has stuttering problems on PC - it felt much smoother on the DW, despite stuttering just as much (according to MSI AB graphs)
Great video. I just bought the Alienware model. I’m in love so far. It was a huge upgrade over my older 25” 1080p 240hz Alienware monitor. I didn’t realize how big of an upgrade 1440p is. I’m still experimenting with settings, but I’m loving it and the image is beautiful. I just bought the Alienware on a 10% off discount from Alienware directly.
@@henrifpv2868 It's an upgrade, but not exactly a massive one at these screen sizes. While there are issues with modern TAA solutions, they do an exceptional job at cleaning up 1440p, to the point that it can look surprisingly close to 4K at normal viewing distances. On the other hand we do also have exceptional upscaling tech now, so jumping 4K isn't necessarily the performance hog it used to be. I'm just saying that 1440p can look plenty sharp if you want save money or prefer an ultrawide. As it stands we don't have QD-OLED 4K monitors either, that's one more reason I'd consider the Alienware myself.
@@odizzido it’s just a game. It doesn’t support bigotry at all think for yourself and leave that stuff outside of gaming. Shit like that ruins everything these days
@@Secure_Mental It does because the royalty cheques go right to someone who pays for bigotry. It's pretty simple. It would be good if you can start including a section in the video showing both monitors side by side playing videos, desktop apps and gaming so we can see the differences. Sometimes looking at just numbers can be deceiving and boring
Before windows 11 i'd have said 16:9 all the way, but thanks to the more flexible windows snapping, i now like ultrawide for single monitor, and for multi-monitor i like 16:9 for 3 screens or even 4:3/3:2 if making a grid
I have no issues with using my Samsung OLED monitor which is the new version of the Alienware one and I use it for work 8 hours daily and no issues with text.
As AW3423DW owner, I'd like reviewers to more emphasize on actual real-world cases. There was some passing mention here, but from my perch HDR1000 is almost a PR stunt level of mode for AW3423DW. The problem with it is that even with HDR calibration and content that supports HDR - it has WAY too aggressive brightness limiter that dims the whole screen HARD the moment you're even in some simple bright scene in game like sunlit beach during a day - without even looking at any sort of HDR intense element like sun. This can be observed in games like Baldur's Gate 3, whole first zone after intro which is exactly above case or Hogwarts Legacy during the day. It dims and sometimes dims so hard you have trouble seeing details in UI elements with colors being washed out as well. HDR400 mode fixes it, but leaves a bad taste in your mouth as you know the monitor could offer more, but not really viable there unless you watch HDR fireworks all day long.
You should do a review on the Sony A90K 42'', that's another OLED smart TV that is popular among PC users and gamers and many feel it has a better picture than the LG C2.
great content as always. Since I already had two 27inches 1440p monitors, one IPS and another in VA. I chose the AW3423DWF for 21:9 PC gaming. Ultrawide is pretty good experience.
Great review! I'm currently loving my LG OLED monitor because of how versatile it is for great single player gaming and multiplayer gaming. Can't go wrong with either though.
The DWF is pretty dope, been using for 2 months or so now , still never gets old how great it looks 🥰 & got my old LG 27gl850 to the right vertically for hwinfo, guides ,ect also who plays games in a well lit room??? lol I don't play in pitch dark but the glossy finish doesn't bother me also also, I mainly game on my PC so I'm not at desktop a whole lot, but if I am I have the taskbar set to hide so no chance of burn in on icons, or I guess you could move it around instead of just being at the bottom, top, left, or right depending where you like it, & if downloading/doing large updates I'll simply just turn the monitor off
Great comparison review! I'm hoping you decide to do similar for the recently now more generally available Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED. I know the Samsung one may not be fully justifiied in its higher price but still would like to hear your opinion on its performance and usage in comparisons to Dells implentation and hardware.
The subpixel layout is a huge stain on these great monitors for me. I can't justify purchasing one just for gaming. However, as soon as microsoft does something about it, I'm jumping on it
Here is not only text problem but everytime issue when pixels forming stright lines, because triangular layout can't do that without fringing. For exemple, you will see fringing at window edges all the time and nothing can do with it at all.
actually the future of OLEDs look very dim 🤡 but i hope with newer technology LG will ramp up the numbers. Need the 27'' with 4K + speakers. Personally dont need 240hz, 144hz is enough for me
Can't wait for the MSI MEG 342C to hit the market. That one, on paper, fixes some of the grits of the Alienware offering while offering the same warranty. HYPE!
is that 1440p? also have they fixed the VRR flickering issues that appear everywhere these days on non real gsync displays. "compatible" is the culprit
@@Aryzon13 unfortunately it’s not, it is priced the same as Samsung g8 oled about 1499$ where I live anyway. Samsung g8 often have a discount on their website and just now can get g8 oled for about 1280$. The crazy part is LG priced 27GR95QE about 1300$ ! 😂
i love your videos, your professional energy and content is always super interesting, i am waiting for my alienware dwf today. thanks to offer super good concentrated content without screaming and useless effect.
The motion blur tests focus on results at the maximum refresh rates, which is helpful for competitive shooters, where you're likely to adjust settings to keep your min framerate above the max refresh rate supported. However, for immersive games where we're likely to use ultra settings, and even RayTracing + DLDSR, the framerates drop down to the sub-100 range, even with a 4090. This changes the equation for motion blur, and is still an important scenario. I'd love it if MU could introduce motion blur comparisons for this situation, where refresh rate benefits are limited by framerate.
Still waiting for a definitive review of the Samsung OLED G8. Keep going between wanting that or a 45” ultra wide from LG, but pixel density is a big concern at that size.
im using the 34"DWF for a while now. first there was a little coilwhine but i was able to eliminate the noise with turning of the RGB light. so far its the best gaming monitor you can buy on the market 2023
got AWF and gotta return it, didnt realise that going from 4k 27 ips the pixel density will bother me so much. I guess will have to wait for OLED with high pixel density
@Doc Holliday well its not bad, but for me pixel density feels like better graphical fidelity than oled. Like dont get me wrong awf is great its smoother cuz its oled but not worth 1k euro upgrade, considering my gpu runs 4k very well too. Desktop pixelation is very visible on the awf, gaming not too bad tho depends on the game. Its 40% less pixels overall. Also this version on alienware has bad 1000 hdr mode comparing to AW. Gonna wait for oled 4k 32 inch
This video really changed my feeling about the Alienware monitors, I have a strong preference towards matte finish for the reasons you observed. Fortunately I can't afford any of the monitors, so I don't have to worry about this.
I was able to get a LG oled 27” excellent condition open box for $695 at Best Buy. And $880 after tax for Alienware aw3423dwf ($200 off new). Trying to decide which to keep.
The coating on the DW/DWF it's the issue the issue is the lack of a polarizer, as QD-OLED TVs with a glossy coat also raise black in bright rooms. With that said if you close the blinds the benefits of a lack of polarizer out way the disadvantages as it allows the display to be brighter, and fewer layers means the image is closer to the surface of the & less internal reflections.
Sadge, I got burn in after 4months it seems. Specifically the RUclips 16/9 aspect ratio... What's annoying is that NONE of my other stuff burned in. I use Google a ton more than just RUclips
@@lilpain1997 tbf I’m a 3d artist so my primary software is mostly a grey ish palette with some orange icons for tools. I routinely do the maintenance stuff like pixel refresh but honestly I’m not worried. It’s got a 3 year warranty and I’m likely to replace it for a higher res screen (provided they come out) before then
Hey guys, great review! Got a correction/omission for you, although the DWF won't support 120 Hz due to HDMI limitations, it does support scaling a 4K60 signsl when console mode is enabled. You can find this information in the user guide under the supported resolutions when console mode is activated, cheers.
the glossy screen on the 3423dw is what makes it the choice for me. I was looking at a few other IPS ultrawide screens, including used 3420DW, but the matte finish isn't what i like. I had a glossy samsung 2560x1440 monitor that I still use as a 2nd monitor that I just love. the colours are just so vibrant and I feel the picture is more crisp than my much newer LG ultrawide. I have my PC in my room and I have a blackout curtain.
It's the screen coating that stops me buying the Alienware. I have a very bright room due to windows, so the LG coating seems perfect, but I want the 34" ultrawide + OLED combo. I will keep waiting for the unicorn that combines all these.
I have the DWF and the HDR (all of the HDR settings, but especially 1000) in games is completely broken/unusable in fullscreen mode (or windowed fullscreen) and requires changing settings in the menu [Game > Console Mode On > Source Tone Map On] to make things look normal. I'm not even entirely sure what those settings are precisely doing that it seemingly fixes the HDR output. Are you sure Dell are aware of the broken HDR?
Basically the console mode allows the monitor to get the color sourcing from an Nvidia gpu. You need it on for Nvidia gpus since you don't have gsync in the monitor. If you had a amd gpu with this monitor you would leave console mode off.
Yep a fix is coming. If you want to make the monitor even better reduce the contrast to 67 when running in HDR mode with source tone mapping on and then use windows HDR calibration tool and set max nit values to 0-1060-1060. Voila no more blown out highlights and much more accurate tracking in HDR!!!
Another great review. You guys remain at the top of the game. And it is very timely. I (tentatively) intend to purchase one of these two monitors* later this year. I realize there are three monitors mentioned here but two are almost the same.
the optical out on that lg is making this decision hard, I've been using an hdmi audio extractor to get sound from my switch and now the ps5 into my logitech z906 speakers. it's me, the one person that uses toslink
It's hard to justify the $1,000 price tag of the LG considering the freesync variant of the dell monitor is the same price and it's an ultra-wide. Dell's warranty on it's premium panels is vastly better to boot. They will ship you a replacement within 2-3 business days and provide a return label for the old one.
I think you should re review the input lag of the AW3423DW with g-sync enabled. No doubt about the input lag without g-sync, it feels really slow, even for non competitive game, was very disapointed when I first tried the monitor. Then with g-sync, it's way way better, I don't know if it's as fast as the dwf but there is a really big difference. I could recommand the monitor to someone who is planning to use g-sync, but not without it.
His testing say adaptive sync on, since DW only has a gsync option. Assuming he means that was turned on. Do you have any more info / evidence of this ‘faster in gsync mode’
@@manlikeg2794 yea but adaptive sync doesn't necessarily mean g-sync. I'm afraid I don't have proof except my personnal experience and some others on reddit, that's also why I hope he could bring some light on the subject since he's one of the best monitors reviewer. I try a lot of monitors and change frequently and while even with g-sync I would'nt recommand this monitor for serious competitive gamer because I can feel the added input lag against like a xl2546k I'm using atm, it's still night and day with or without g-sync. I'm very sensitive to input lag, I could'nt keep this AW if it was that slow. I'm planning to change for the LG but that's more because I never really liked the ultrawide format and like I said, I change monitors every 3 or 4 months EDIT: I'll add because I didn't think this way, maybe it's the true value with g-sync enabled, would make sense since I still feel it's not the fastest monitor on the market, BUT what I'm 100% sure is that it's way slower without g-sync, so in any case I think it's important to mention it because to me it almost feels unplayable without g-sync and that's from someone who never used g-sync before. (don't like it and tearing never bothered me, but with this monitor I have to)
@@casualher0903 good to know. I play competitive fps on this monitor and always felt it was a bit slow, but man the colours / details look so good compared to my IPS. I play with gsync off as well so will try with it on. I am thinking this LG or maybe I should just go 360hz 1440p asus and sweat properly
@@casualher0903 I may grab the DW today. My Micro Center has a couple open box ones for $870. I'm currently using a C1 oled with my 4090 build and an ips 1440 170hz with my 3080ti build
@@manlikeg2794 you should definitely try with g-sync on, curious about what you think. Don't know if you're familiar with the best settings to use with g-sync, but basically ensure v-sync is on in the NVCP but most importantly to cap your fps to like 170 either with in game limiter or rivatuner so v-sync doesn't actually activate. In my country the pg27aqn is too expansive, at the same prince I can get the LG and I think it's a better monitor, but can't really say for sure, never tried both of them
Fan noise is my primary complaint on the aw3423dw, but gamma flicker is a close second. Flicker is usually not noticeable at higher frame rates, but for frame rate locked titles (like elden ring) it is distracting.
I bought the dwf based on your previous videos and it was the best decision I made all year. Just remember to turn on console mode for Nvidia gpus to get proper hdr.
Checked with one of the local retailers here. Although they provide "care" packages (for a price) as ad on while buying the monitor, even that doesn't cover burn-in!!!
Ultrawide is definitely not for everybody. Returned the Alienware for the LG. I couldn't stand the distorted stretched out games plus the 1440p at 34' display made the graphics look soft. Glad i tried it out though, LG is much better for me.
Judging from recent rtings tests, it’s actually the complete opposite. WOLED seems way more resistant to burn-in due to the presence of the additional white subpixel.
FOR CREATORS : I found that on the AW3423DWF, the Cool color preset is the closest to clear white as this monitor can get. I've been using a well calibrated monitor until i bought this one and found the alienware to have a warm oversaturated color profile while using the Standard picture mode. I'm a professional graphic designer and i stare at colors all day long.. the cool Preset mode is flawless from what my eyes can see.
i wonder why Microsoft hasn't addressed these different subpixel layouts in their rendering engine, we've had these non standard layouts for quite a few years but Microsoft just stay silent.
I can't wait for my AW3423DW it should be today in local shop, and can't stop refreshing email for confirmation :D glad AW3423DW won against LG, so no regrets :D
Really looking forward to your review of the Samsung G8 OLED to see how it compares to the AW. I'm looking to buy either soon but the G8 has a 10cm smaller footprint (depth) when using stock mount/stand and desk space is important to me...but then 3 year warranty and i could buy a monitor arm i guess so i don't know. Your review will sell me one way or the other.
Samsung Odyssey Ark recently got a huge price cut in the States. Been waiting for you to review it since it came out but I don't know what your situation is down under. In any regard, would love to see you look at it down the road!
I got my GR97QE about a week ago and love it. Sure, it could be a bit brighter, but oh my god does it feel pristine in my sweaty tryhard Overwatch games. I got back to Masters rank within a few days of owning this haha. Compared to my previous 240hz LCD, the contrast ratio seems to really help with image clarity… it’s hard to describe, but i feel like all in game objects are more clearly defined etc. great display. If it was maybe 10% brighter I’d be happier, but it’s still more than bright enough.
Try brightness in Amd or nvidia control panel with hdr on. I play with 2-5% added brightness. You can also raise the software contrast as well instead of brightness.
Probably watched this video a hundred times lol. Decided to go with the Alienware DWF version and it will arrive in a few days. Kinda excited. I have a 42 inch C2 Oled but it was too large so I will be using that primarily as my bedroom TV. Never gamed on an ultrawide before. I wanted the LG 27GR95QE so bad but kept hearing bad reviews about the brightness and matte screen finish. I play mainly in the dark, FPS games but I also do a lot of work and research love splitting windows. I hope I made the right call. Please tell me if I made a mistake lol. I love the 27 form factor and I would've considered the new Asus 27 inch but the aesthetics are too "gamery" lol
Thank you for showing Ultrawides. I feel they dont get enough attention these days. And thats exactly why i dint buy the Alienware was because of the Glossy screen. Still using my 3418DW waiting for a none glossy ultrawide to come out. 120hz isnt cutting it for me anymore on my current hardware
Love my 3418DW. Going to ride it till it dies and see what tech is available whenever that happens. Even though the current OLEDs are tempting, the 3418DW still has a great picture, and I'm excited to see how far OLED can improve until the fated upgrade.
@Monitors Unboxed I saw in another video that hooking up the LG on HMDI 2.1 and running 12bit increased the colors pop/vibrance and noticeably decreased input lag /latency. Did you test this? HMDI 2.1 has much more bandwidth vs display port so does make sense that HDMI performs better (32 vs 48 GBps).
I've noticed that in Europe (Germany), the following model is available for pre-order: LG 27GR95QR. What's the difference between that "E" and "R" models? EDIT: The data sheet seems to be for the E model. So it's probably just a typo from the store.
Thanks for a great in depth comparison video. Definitely leaning towards the LG for my needs. Warranty though 😑 Right now its available only via LG Store in Europe. Once other vendors start selling it perhaps they will offer better warranties. Also, I heard ASUS and Acer are going to release displays based on the same panel so might be worth waiting for those.
Lgs oled have been around longer and have proven to be resistant even with heavy use as long you're not stupid,it's a really.good choice, been using a C1 since November of 2021 and have had 0 issues

One thing not mentioned is the end user upgradebility; I recently had an experience with this. There have been software updates for the AW3423DW that the end user cannot apply themselves. Only on the AW3423DWF allows for end user firmware upgrade. When working with Dell support for a color banding issue on my initial panel and warranty claim they wanted me to try and upgrade the panels firmware and I had to point out to the 'support techs' that this wasn't even possible; they were speaking to me as if I had the newer model.
I have never noticed any text clarity issues on my AW3423DW... It looks exactly the same as my LG Ultragear IPS panel that I have mounted directly above it.
I was torn between the Samsung Neo G7 and the Alienware DWF, but went with the Alienware as a lot of people have sung high praise of Dell's warranty and customer service, and people seem to loathe Samsung. I'm too old and grump to deal with bullshit. I'll pay extra for a good warranty these days. I went with the DWF. I can hear the fan noise, and I hate it. But no issues reading text.
Love that you emphasize when there is a measurable but not a perceiveable difference. These days we sometimes get to hooked up on numbers.

I was using a C1 oled so this is essentially that but brighter in an ultrawide setup with higher brightness and refresh rate. It's perfect.

My AW3423DWF just arrived today and I couldn't be happier. RUclips videos just can't do it justice.
@@brandenc3860 Yeah all the HDTV channels were talking about this. The fix is definitely related to the coatings/filter
Why do you think that Input Lag on the Gsync DW is so slow compared to the Freesync DWF version??/
Every single game was clipping like mad, the aw3423dw's HDR is much better every though they should be about the same
Why do you think that Input Lag on the Gsync DW is so slow compared to the Freesync DWF version??/
Thanks for this comparison! I don’t see many comparisons out between the new OLEDs out yet. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Would be nice seeing a comparison between all OLEDs monitors releasing this year+ Alienware
I’m too scared of screen burn-in, till they perfect the technique I won’t be buying, ips ftw
How tall are you ?
Holy cow you're either a giant or your desk is too low
@@dominicemerson2438 haha I’m 6’4” and the desk top sits at 29” tall. Comfortable seating position, ergonomic, etc. Maybe it’s just me but I was looking down at the monitor when using the stand.
I dont know how anyone can stand this monitor. The text fringing was a dealbreaker for me.
Isn't there a place where you can demo the monitors before buying them? buying and returning them seems like a waste

HDR in a proper screen is something else.
@@WamblyHades definitely! i never thought it would make that much of a difference!
I have Samsung equivalent and I've never ever seen a screen do hdr like this panel. Absolutely insane.
I’ve first seen both Alienware screens on ltt and was interested, saw your reviews to both and picked up the AW3423DWF. Thanks for your hard work, I really appreciate! This monitor is absolutely fantastic!

Ty for the info, I play a lot of rocket league and am looking into the lg oled
I was in the same boat and the problem was specific to the DW. The DWF fixes the input lag problem entirely and feels just as snappy & responsive as the 27GR95QE despite having a lower refresh rate.
Real shame too, because it certainly felt like the hardware GSYNC module in the DW provided *_the smoothest_* VRR experience I've had in many years. This was really apparent in Elden Ring which still has stuttering problems on PC - it felt much smoother on the DW, despite stuttering just as much (according to MSI AB graphs)
Input lag? DWF is lower than DW actually but both are incredibly low. I doubt you can feel anything. The LG OLED is almost the same as DW..
Why do you think that Input Lag on the Gsync DW is so slow compared to the Freesync DWF version??/
Wait till you try 4k 😄

Haven't looked back after getting the AW3423DW last year. I'm very happy with it as someone who isn't interested in competitive gaming.
I’m very happy with it as someone who is interested in somewhat competitive gaming.

In reality the sub pixel layout isn’t an issue.

I believe oled has the same .1ms response regardless of the refresh rate/fps, unlike ips/va monitors.
@@ultimategohan1551 I can confirm that effective motion clarity is reduced by having a lower FPS on my QD-OLED
Can you CONTROL RGB with software or monitor OSD? And turn it off.

Damn it's that bad? I wanted to switch from a 4k 28in to the Aw3423dwf for that ultra wide/ oled experience.
I've had my DW for about 6 months now and I have never heard the fan. Mine is completely silent. And it is working just fine

oled g8 review coming any time soon?
Would love to see you review the UW variant of that LG monitor!
The coating on the DW/DWF it's the issue the issue is the lack of a polarizer, as QD-OLED TVs with a glossy coat also raise black in bright rooms. With that said if you close the blinds the benefits of a lack of polarizer out way the disadvantages as it allows the display to be brighter, and fewer layers means the image is closer to the surface of the & less internal reflections.

the glossy screen on the 3423dw is what makes it the choice for me.
Yes, they're aware of it. The German site has a firmware update announcement that describes a fix for tonemapping

I have the dwf and don’t have any problem with the sub pixel layout nor with it being dark - cause it is 1000 nits in game mode ^^ text is crisp too
It's hard to justify the $1,000 price tag of the LG considering the freesync variant of the dell monitor is the same price and it's an ultra-wide.
I'm planning to change for the LG but that's more because I never really liked the ultrawide format and like I said, I change monitors every 3 or 4 months
EDIT: I'll add because I didn't think this way, maybe it's the true value with g-sync enabled, would make sense since I still feel it's not the fastest monitor on the market, BUT what I'm 100% sure is that it's way slower without g-sync, so in any case I think it's important to mention it because to me it almost feels unplayable without g-sync and that's from someone who never used g-sync before. (don't like it and tearing never bothered me, but with this monitor I have to)
@@casualher0903 good to know. I play competitive fps on this monitor and always felt it was a bit slow, but man the colours / details look so good compared to my IPS. I play with gsync off as well so will try with it on.

Not to mention QLED is much less susceptible to Burn In than regular OLED as well.
Judging from recent rtings tests, it’s actually the complete opposite. WOLED seems way more resistant to burn-in due to the presence of the additional white subpixel.
Love ultrawide. With 1800r it is perfect in my case.
I hope that my DWF get the update very soon to get the best performance for all.

I'm looking to buy either soon but the G8 has a 10cm smaller footprint (depth) when using stock mount/stand and desk space is important to me...but then 3 year warranty and i could buy a monitor arm i guess so i don't know. Your review will sell me one way or the other.
do you have a Samsung G85SB review coming? very interested to see how it stacks up vs the AW3423DWF
Waiting for this as well!
@@zachariekelley hmm good idea. I wonder if that applies a kindve “fake brightness” and washes the image out?
@@mrpetebojangles21 it did for me over 10% brightness if I didn't mess with contrast. It does brighten up the image.
Thanks for analyzing font rendering 🙂
They've released the M3B104 firmware update for this monitor today.. would love to see an evaluation of this!
I believe Philips also announced a 34" OLED monitor. Its nice to see that we're about to get some competition in that "niche" monitor area
Its not as niche as you think. People are tired of LCDs terrible contrast, colors and bad HDR.
the AW3423DW/F can be found cheaper in the UK against the LG here, more screen space for less money!
I love the 27 form factor and I would've considered the new Asus 27 inch but the aesthetics are too "gamery" lol
no me recomiendas el 27GR95QE?
happy with your choice?
Thank you for showing Ultrawides. I feel they dont get enough attention these days.
And thats exactly why i dint buy the Alienware was because of the Glossy screen. Still using my 3418DW waiting for a none glossy ultrawide to come out. 120hz isnt cutting it for me anymore on my current hardware
Love my 3418DW. Going to ride it till it dies and see what tech is available whenever that happens. Even though the current OLEDs are tempting, the 3418DW still has a great picture, and I'm excited to see how far OLED can improve until the fated upgrade.
I wanted to express my gratitude for your work !
@@ShadowLady1 good to know your experience, thanks for sharing! Every bit takes me closer to my purchase 🙂
I am trying to buy one from Bulgaria but cant find it anywhere? What do you mean it is available on the LG store Europe? Cant find anywhere to buy it online from LG
The Fan Noise on the Alienware was an absolute deal breaker for me. This is not acceptable for a high end product.
You can’t hear it at all on mine.
The AW3423DWF is $100 off right now so at the moment they're priced the same.
Thank you I loved the comparison
Exactly what we needed, great video!
