- Looking at how she's been drawn throughout the show, she's either in her early 20s or mid 40s. Talk about consistency.
Season 4 ruined her character. Freaking character assassination. Imagine if after betraying his uncle Zuko became evil, spoiled brat, who wants to help his dad no matter what said dad did. This is Karai, thanks to S4. Fucking shame

I like Karai, but the fact that she never truly became a good guy always rubbed me the wrong way. Writers build her up as Zuko and then later on made her a complete bad guy.
I don't know, in the final episode of Back to The Sewers, she and Dr Chaplin were invited to April and Casey's wedding.

Karai is an interesting character with an interesting personality and history. The entire time she is super conflicted - she is an honourable person deep down but she owes a lot to the Shredder without him she would have died aline after her parents abandoned her. She knows he is cruel and such but she owes him a lot hence her inner conflict and anger. She is actually in need of serious therapy.
I don't think it should be therapy. It's just what you said, Karai even felt betraying you're master is dishonorable (even if he is evil). That was the case in Feudal Japan with some honorable Samurai serving dishonorable, while others served honorable ones as well. And the Foot Clan is definitively old fashioned enough for Karai to have a mindset like that. Ironically like Leonardo (who's Master is good), she has more common in with the Samurai mindset than she does with a Ninja, despite being very skilled in Ninjitsu.
I think everyone in the show needs some form of therapy

@@hbala24 that's cartoons for you, so screw therapy. It never helped anyone in real world, so why bother to implement it into fiction. She had overcome this inconsistency at the end not because of some words or therapeutic evaluation, but thanks to actions and decisions of her own (and because of the relationship examples that the turtles gave her throughout the story).
A lot of people complain about Karai turning villainous in season 4, hovewer I actually consider it a logical progression of her arc.
Karai is no Zuko. For one, she's older and much more involved with her adopted dad's evil doings. I think it's not very often shown in modern media, but the further you go into a wrong worldview, the harder it is to admit you'd been mistaken all along. We also need to remember that Karai was abandoned by her parents (not a great start for a morally good person) and it was the Shredder who saw her potential, gave her a new life and a purpose. She doesn't do what he wants out of blind obedience or want to prove herself, but a genuine loyalty.
That being said, it was conveyed very poorly, practically not at all. We barely see Shredder showing empathy and care for her in the show. Even as he leaves for space 46:45 he talks to her like she was his mere tool and servant, an asset he can exploit and has power over. He does so much cruel and unjust stuff right in front of her it's unbelievable how she can still talk about hOnoR (this series obsession with honor is absurd btw) and still follow him. And she doesn't really get a redemption. After all what he did and what she's been through with the turtles, she still supports Shredder in the the spin off. And that's sad, honestly.
I personally complain about her transformation into a complete villain ONLY because of how poorly it was done and because, thanks to Forever, she doesn't have any redemption. Otherwise, I think I would be okay with it.
About redemption and honor BS. Let's see what she did in the entire show that affected more than just turtles.
1) She directly helped Ch'rell in his criminal activities while he was around. Сontinued to be a criminal after his exile.
?) In SAINW (which is like a split timeline of 2003), she helps Shredder do terrible stuff to utroms, planet Earth, and all other planets that he plans to attack until the moment she's killed.
2) Her lucklaster defense of the Heart of Tengu led to the resurrection of Tengu Shredder and NYC's transformation into hellscape.
3) While not her fault directly, she helped create Cyber Shredder, which led to:
-> rampage of cyber mutants;
-> cyber attack on NYC.
4) She helped Ch'rell in Forever, which led to:
-> Technodrome's attack on NYC;
-> temporary erasure of at least 1 dimension;
-> Technodrome's attack on OG dimension;
- > ALMOST COMPLETE ERASURE OF THE ENTIRE MULTIVERSE.
After what happened in S4 and S5 Turtles, April and Casey invited her to their wedding in S7, showing her that they trusted her. And after that incredible gesture from them AND being attacked by the AI clone of her sushi alien daddy, she still helps Ch'rell modify Technodrome, create mutant and robot armies, and follows him until the moment he leaves the room to confront OG turtles.
Not once before that she directly confronted him about all the terrible things he did in a span of a few hours.
In all honesty, I think that turtles are justified in killing her. I'm 99.9% convinced that even after Forever she will not change, because after Ch'rell "dies" she casually talks and walks alongside turtles, not showing any remorse and not even apologizing to them for what happened.
Karai is a terrible person, and she can go f*ck herself with her "hOnOr" BS.
I don't think she is a horrible person completely. More like she has twisted understanding of honor and duty. She thinks she is chained to Shredder to do his biding no matter what he does. But she clearly cares about the turtles to some degree. She mostly tries to avoid pointless bloodshed, as shown when she tried to protect the New Yorkers from gang infighting 5:32 and opposes the annihilation of Beijing 33:50 .
I think she is extremely egocentric and naive tho. She puts a plan to restore order in NYC mostly to preserve the Foot's interest and is barely concerned about the death of countless alliens Ch'rell had caused and the destruction of another universe, because she isn't connected to those beings in any way. To put it short: if it's not about someone she is close with, it doesn't matter. She thinks that fight to death between Shredder and Turtles can be avoided 50:20 51:33 and it will be posibble to reconcile their agendas. Perhaprs it's some sort of the Stockholm syndrome or too much empathy for her father: "mayyyybe I can repair him and everything will be fine... somehow....?"
Even for a person conditioned to serve Shredder from childhood, I find it rather annoying from storytelling perspective that she never recognizes her "father" was evil to the core, not just mistaken or overzealous. I mean she theoretically turns on him when his actions will lead to eresal of her reality, but she probably did this because of herself and the Turtles 1:46:24, also clearly thought that Ch'rell was just blinded by his anger and thirst for revenge 1:47:22. So... yeah.
When she tries to talk him out of destroying the entire multiverse, she says that by killing OG turtles he will also kill himself, and she doesn't want to lose him again.
So, even after Don confirmed that the actions of this maniac destroyed their entire dimension, she doesn't give up on Ch'rell completely.
God, she needs help, because that's not freaking healthy.

I think Shredder adopting her and the brief hesitation he does when she pleads to him in Forever show that he deep down he does have a soft spot for her. It’s just that he’s so evil that it doesn’t affect him.
I feel like turtles forever is best considered non-canon. It felt more like it took standard issue personalities from every character than that it was a pure continuation. Season 6 and 7 already had confusing continuity anyway. Otherwise I think Karai had done a good job firmly establishing herself as a turtle ally, but still someone who ran a literal criminal empire by the end of season 5. She proved to be far more human in her relationships as the shredder than the utrum (however you spell it). After the defeated the "true" shredder the ending with her walking into the sunset seemingly haven fallen in love was also a really nice one. Still the show could have spent more time exploring her relationship with the main/first/utrum shredder and her loyalty to him. But also that breaking a bit as she realized how far his ambitions went (which was shown in turtles forever with her helping once she realized how insane he was in trying to destroy all reality). Again I just feel like turtles forever used a general concept of 2003 turtles characters and didn't pay much mind to actual major changes. Like Karai felt like she did when she was introduced. Loyal to shredder but not fully evil herself.

Karai was such a good pawn for the Shredder BECAUSE she was a good person at heart. He was able to entrust her with secrets that he would never have been able to trust a more ruthless and ambitious henchman with. You simply do not get that kind of loyalty from another bad guy.
If Karai had half of Ch'rell's ruthlessness, cunning and ambition, she would have killed and usurped him a long time ago. She knew enough of Ch'rell's secrets to do so easily if she so wished. But that was simply not who she was, and Ch'rell masterfully used that to his advantage.
For example, right here at 17:05, a more ruthless person (i.e. your standard bad guy) stabs Ch'rell between the eyeballs.

She’s got the same haircut and headband as Liu Kang. And to me her personality is a mix between Kitana and Mileena: sometimes conflicted and honorable like Kitana(season 2-3), but ruthless and vengefully bloodthirsty like Mileena(season 4)

50:46 Leonardo’s way of looking at Karai’s face before he collapsed beneath her shows that he was focused on the fact that it was Karai who stabbed him, rather than the stab itself. And that's why the Shredder kicked Leonardo towards Karai to hurt him both physically and mentally

I actually liked her as the female shredder. She learned from her dad but like splinter said she's faster and wiser than her father. And she trained the foot clan to be more powerful. I'd like a tmnt movie where she is the shredder. Yall wouldn't like it but I think it'd be dope

I may be the only person who thinks that making Karai Ch'rell's successor was genius especially in terms of the events of Season 5 and the film. Neither would have worked properly if not for Karai becoming the Shredder herself.
I agree. The fact that she finally betrays him in Turtles Forever feels a lot more powerful because she tried becoming his successor.
Yeah, bringing her past as a temporary Shredder into Season 5 was brilliant, giving her fairly brief "evil" phase a lot more impact.

Am I the only one who thought it would have been very, VERY, interesting to see C'hrell change his mind at the end of the movie thanks to Karai's words? I mean I'm not saying he should have become a good person all of a sudden, quite the opposite, but the fact that for a few seconds he actually remained silent thinking after Karai's speech always made me hope that, after all, he really had some of affection for the one he calls his daughter.
He has raised her for years, he has trusted her with all of his secrets and she has always had proof her unconditional loyalty and love to him even though he is, well, him.
Ok, thinking about it it would have been a contradiction for his character to change his mind in such a mawkish way like this, but maybe a last word of farewell for Karai since he was going to destroy everything anyway.
Something like: "I'm sorry Karai but ... I went too far to return back now, goodbye ... daughter ... and goodbye to you CURSED TURTLES!!"

Ch’rell did acknowledge Karai’s words, yes, and seemed hesitant to destroy the Turtles upon realising it would result in his and Karai’s deaths. He even seemed to take her words to heart and was genuinely listening to her and seemed shocked when Karai said “Father I don’t want to lose you again”. And seemed genuinely upset later on, even sad. I think he did love Karai, and Shredder always seemed fixated on punishing those who’ve betrayed or failed him, Karai being more or less the sole exception. Hell, he literally forgave her that she sided with his enemies and was genuinely shocked of her final betrayal. Ch’rell always felt that Karai was unconditionally loyal to him, and as such even when she turned her back on him he couldn’t believe it. Shredder may have been a monster, but Karai was the one person who he truly loved. Even in the dystopia he kept Karai by his side when he could have had gotten himself another right hand man, but he he didn’t and seemingly gave Karai equal authority and attributed his victory to Karai Legions. Also he was absolutely infuriated when she was killed, his facial expressions show that.

Karen Neill has a serious charm in her voice, which is amazing, and she did a great job bringing both Ishizu and Karai to life.

50:46 I genuinely think Shredder kicked Leo towards Karai's sword for two reasons. First, to test Karai's loyalty after seeing Leo save her. Second, he realized Leo has some sort of attachment to Karai, feelings and trust, and wanted him to feel the pain and agony of being stabbed by her. He understood that a stab from Karai, someone he seemingly has feelings for, would hurt more than if Shredder did it himself. Despite having the opportunity to kill Leo himself, Shredder chose to kick him towards her instead. The way Leo looks at Karai after the stab shows that he's more shocked by the fact that Karai was the one who hurt him than by the pain of the stab itself. He doesn't seem to care about the stab or how it happened, only that it was Karai who did it.
After the Shredder's exile, his daughter Karai has become more dangerous then ever.

She works a lot better as an anti hero. Her best moment was when the Tengu Shredder appeared, she put up a great fight against him and was the MVP in his defeat.

Karai has always been my favorite. I admit her becoming a villain, it had me mixed feelings, she was awesome that she discovered the Turtles’ lair. At the same, she broke Leo and Splinter’s faith in her, and Raph was right, she CANNOT be trusted.

I remember this reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 and I really do like the character's design and personalites a lot better than the other reboots from 1985, 2013 and 2018. It's a shame they never made a proper complete series onto DVD with all the season1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7 because that would keep the memories of the series alive with the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , I know they already made a few DVDs from 2003 which is disappointment sadly and I can only watch them on RUclips as long as the episodes are still there😔.

I think that Karai in that version is not evil at all, even a little. I mean, she did not do evil for the purpose of destroying the world or the city or trying to control it. She just has an indecisive and volatile personality, and her love for Shreder to the point of madness is a bit like Stockholm Syndrome. In my opinion
As much I loved Karai in this series, I hated what they did with her character in later seasons. Making her a blind and ignorant loyalist to Shredder knowing everything that he’s done. It would’ve been plausible if she was just as twisted and evil as he was, truly, but she wasn’t. We know this because we’ve seen her have small bits of good in her, but it was destroyed after her father was exiled. She became a petty and spiteful brat. Still stupid to this day honestly that’s one of the reasons why I like the 2012 Karai better.

Of all the Karais, the 2003 incarnation is my favourite one, especially when she wore the Shredder armour from 9:03 to 16:25, which was the City At War Part 3 episode. She really looks so much better in that armour than the one she wore later in the series.
Some shot looks awful but making her own shedder suit that fit more on her last movement. Only till she was laughing the destroyed of the sewer where the suit looks good or when she fights leo some random shot it just look like a junk version
50:45 I really feel sorry for Leo. He was the person who trusted Karai the most and appreciated her throughout the entire series. He was the one who protected and saved her many times. And now he stands before her, stabbed by her own hands. I can't imagine the extent of the shock, pain, and disappointment he feels.

I know Karai was raise by the Shredder when she was a kid but she really should have known the differents between right and wrongs as well as see the kind of heartless monster the Shredder really is. I mean Karai has wittness many time of cruelty and threaten the Shredder has shown towards those who works for him as well as trying to destroy the Turtles who were trying to save New York/ Earth from him.
Now in Season 4 Karai became the next Shredder which I have to agree what Leonardo is saying that he was wrong about Karai as she's knows nothing about honour as she choose to become exactly like the Shredder and a villian instead of letting it go the past and start her new life for good.
Haven’t seen the show but I’d say it makes sort of sense, if you’re raised in that environment it becomes as normal as breathing

Ever since I had first watched the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series, I had often wondered why Karai wasn't still given just the one sword and tanto (dagger) that she was given of the episodes "City at War, Part 2", "City at War, Part 3" and "New Blood" also of a few following episodes that she had appeared for "Rogue in the House, Part 1", "Rogue in the House, Part 2", "Space Invaders, Part 2", "Mission of Gravity", "Hun on the Run", "Exodus Part, 2", "Bad Day", "The Journal", "Something Wicked" and the 2009 animated film "Turtles Forever" too.
I just think the one sword and dagger suits Karai from my point of view.
One of the most confusing things about Turtles Forever is definitely Karai. She was pretty much redeemed at the end of Season 5, and in Season 7 she left the Foot Ninja and was even invited to Casey and April’s wedding. I don’t get why they wanted her to still have an attachment with her father, especially since she had moved on from him considering she didn’t even react to his return as Cyber Shredder in Season 7.

I loved Leo and Karai's... Er, relationship, for lack of a better word. I actually used to ship them as a kid.
Considering Chaplain is holding hands with her at the end, I still imagine Leo in her life: Karai and Chaplain's future kid could see Leo as the child's really cool ninja uncle.

I think that’s how Tengu Shredder would have returned. He would’ve possessed her and wage war against Chrell and Cyber Shredder.

I loved Karai in the first seasons but I hated that the writers decided to make her a shredder 2.0, I mean yes, she served the shredder because he is her father and logically she was going to be there for him but she also betrayed him by allying herself with the turtles because she recognized that what her father did was wrong, she was constantly between good and evil and I would have loved to see her be able to overcome her father and forge her own destiny. If they didn't know what to do with the character then it was better that they had sent her to Japan or something🤷♀️

@@danknhshinki73 Before the attack on turtles' lair Karai first ordered the ninja mistiques to attack them in a spiritual mind game kinda way. After that attack the mistiques said the had failed but they also had found valuable knowledge about the turtles. And the mistiques in the illusion they cause the turtles did manage to see their lair so thats probably how.

Karai kept pissing me off throughout the whole show. Her slavish loyalty to the Shredder for picking her off the street as an abandoned child and raising him as his own completely overshadowed all the abundantly evil and horrible shit he was doing that she admitted she was against. All her annoying talk about honor and duty, while serving the most honorless and selfish criminal in their universe, who frankly used her as a pawn and was happy to let her die when needed. She even carried on his work as a criminal even after he disappeared despite all her honor talk. It took the Shredder nearly destroying himself and the multiverse to get her to turn against him. That is ridiculous.

I heard some people say that it was out of character that Karai “turned bad” during Turtles Forever, but I say it was very in character.
Karai didn’t actually turn bad either, in the extended edition it was always said that she kept a close eye on the asteroid that he was imprisoned on, and when he was zapped back to earth she tracked him down.

Which episode was her first appearances? She almost looks as good as the Utrom and the true/real Shredder. It was great how she kept the Foot Mystics trapped, and then helped defeat one of them.
After her "father's" exile, her friendship with the Turtles turned sour in the worst way possible.

It’s implied that she killed him, but it would be kinda out of character to kill a civilian. Though give what the reporter was saving, it’s possible that she was forced to silence him permanently, but again the scene somewhat leaves it ambiguous
