One of my top favorite songs of Kris... So I HAD to edit a video to it withthe re-upload.
Most scenes are from a documentary on Kris and from Cisco Pike, but two tiny scenes are from Blume in love and one is from A star is born...

Ich stolperte die Gehwege der neonfarbenen Musikstadt entlang,
mit dem Junkie und dem Suffkopf, die ihre eigenen Probleme hatten.
Mit dem Glück am Hals, das mich grad mal eine Stufe vom Hungern fernhielt,
und etwas Talent, das ich schwor noch zu zeigen, bevor ich zurück nach Hause gehen würde.
Seit achtzig Tage raus aus der Armee, hab ich weder Liebe noch Geld gemacht,
und meine einzige Garnitur Klamotten kam meinen Knochen immer näher.
Dann gab der Junkie beim Dealer an der Ecke seine Bestellung ab,
während er uns von der Seele erzählte, die er für einen Song verkauft hat.
Er sagte, „Meine Chance war meine Zukunft, aber ich ließ sie entschlüpfen
während ich mich langsam an 80 Zigaretten am Tag kaputt rauche
und herausfinde, dass Verbrechen nicht alles ist, was sich nicht auszahlt
und Songs schreib für niemanden außer für mich selbst und den Suffkopf", der sagte,
„Ja, ich kann mein Schicksal im Boden eines Glases lesen
Und ich kann sagen, es ist Zeit für mich, meinen letzten Wunsch zu äußern:

Also, ich übertrank die Sache nochmal und zählte eins und zwei zusammen
Und es fügte sich zu mehr von dem zusammen, was ich nicht sein wollte.
Ich geb nicht der Musikstadt die Schuld, aber sie wird mich nur noch
einen Arbeitstag und einmal aufwachen sehen und die Zeit, die ich brauche, um zu verschwinden.
Weil ich ein schmutziges Bild habe von dem, was meine Zukunft sein könnte
in von einem Dealer an einer Ecke gegen eine Gebühr angeschobenen Tagträumen.
Und der Suffkopf schaut ganz einsam auf eine leer werdende Flasche
und einen hungrig aussehenden Junkie, der nach günstigem Stoff jagt.
Und ich wette, der Junkie lacht über das Leben, das er weggeworfen hat
Während er sich kaputt raucht an 80 Zigaretten am Tag
Und den Dealer anfleht um einem Preis, den er bezahlen kann
Und Wörter schreibt, die niemand sehen wird, außer der Suffkopf, der es sagte:
Jede leere Flasche ist seine private Kristallkugel
wo er in die Zukunft starrt und überhaupt nichts dort findet.
Das ist alles, was ich morgen vermissen werde, wenn die Neonschatten fallen

The scenes with this bio HD sign are from a TV documentary. Since he looked exactly like in Cisco Pike, I mixed them with scenes from this movie and with screenshots from them both and some stills...

Yes, I believe that the only person involved is Kris himself, with three different/conflicting aspects/struggles of his life at that time going on; he liked the booze back then, the smokes, and then there was the man, the songwriter/musician. Thankfully, the latter won out. It's well-documented that he quit hard-drinking about 1976, but decisions like that don't just materialize overnight. To quit had probably been playing on his mind long before he actually did quit, and songs like The Junkie, From the Bottle to the Bottom, etc. flowed from that period of his life.

Yes, he often is slimmed down to his 4 best-known songs, which probably are Me and Bobby McGee (and many people still don't know he is the songwriter of this famous song), Sunday morning coming down (and here too many people think it's a song Johnny wrote), Why me, Lord and Foor the good times (I bet most people that love this song, also don't know who the songwriter was).

You and Kris have inspired me to learn to play the guitar at 54, So covid19 lockdown started in March 2020 and I went out n bought a cheap guitar in the classifieds. I Found out how cheap when it folded in half on the single dowel joint when I tried tuning it, it was a nylon acoustic strung with steel strings.too weak for the tension I repaired it and restrung with nylon but it didn't have kris' sound so off to a pro music shop and came back with a steel string Cort Dreadnought, lovely sounds just like his chords. Then I battled with basic chords but believe I'm well on the way to playing really nice sounds ...I still struggle with B and F chords but I will persevere ..thanks for the great videos you make. I wish I had explored his music earlier in life... such poetic wisdom in his lyrics. He is truly a masterful songwriter and I love his voice. I listen to his music at every opportunity I get and try and get in a such practice as I can. I wish I could express my appreciation to Mr Kristofferson for his incredible contribution to the music world, I do believe I'll be in the running, contesting to be the biggest fan. Lol

You don't have to be the greatest player to write songs. In my 50 years of being a musician guitarists are everywhere, but someone who can write a song, especially lyrics, is a gem. Keep going.
Thanks for posting all this great KK stuff, biggestkkfan. This one is has Roger Miller all over it: the narrative, the rhymes, the bass line, the guitar strum cadence and that full-beat stop. Kris's tone and phrasing is classic Roger (just listen to the upward inflection in "stuck with luck"). Love it.

+biggestkkfan another "quick fix" before I have to get out of bed and face the day! All Kris' early stuff got me through a bad time 45 years ago - and it's helping again. Kris Kristofferson as therapy.............
He's my therapy too...my husband was a double for him, as a matter of fact, when he was in the hospital in '85 after a car accident, his nurses called him Kris because he looked so much like him...now watching these videos is like therapy for me...my husband passed in 2014...it's like looking at my Brian...have always loved his music, from the first time I saw him on TV with Rita in early 70's. His music is heartfelt and beautiful...love the words! Kris is a brilliant poet/songwriter and , in his words, "Stands for the underdog", his music tells the truth and is always beautifully done!

You're kidding! He's played in about 90 movies. I have them all but two that I couldn't get...I once listed the 40 main movies of him in my channel info, but don't know where it has gone with the new YT outlook... Of course I know he played Cisco - it was his first big movie and is one of my favorites. I meant to say, in these scenes from the docu he was looking exactly similar, so these shots must have been taken in 1970 or while shooting Cisco Pike in 1971, because he wasn't wearing a beard..

Kris Kristofferson played Cisco Pike in the 1972 movie of that name, that's why he looks so similar, Cisco=Kris.
I love these lyrics, as much as Sunday morning coming down or The Pilgrim but I do have to say I enjoy the Johnny Cash version of this a bit better.
