- This piece is from a collection called "Ten Chorale Improvisations" by Paul Manz--an American composer for organ and choir, who long served the church as recitalist, composer, teacher and leader in worship. His most famous organ works are his volumes of neo-Baroque chorale preludes and partitas. This piece is based on the popular hymn tune "Tallis' Canon", which can also be performed as a round. It is played here by Geoff Olson, organist of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Paul, MN. The organ is a 30-rank Wicks/Hunt pipe organ, supplemented with a Hauptwerk virtual organ system, using the 65-stop 1877 Father Willis Organ at Salisbury Cathedral, England. Hope you enjoy this piece and thanks for listening.
That's a real familiar tune. That brought back some good memories. Well done, Geoff.
