  • O Morning Star, How Fair and Bright is a Lutheran Epiphany hymn written in 1597. This arrangement is by Paul Manz (1919-2009), a prolific American composer, organist, and church musician. In addition, he was well known for his popular hymn festivals. This piece is in a collection called "The New Liturgical Year"--John Ferguson, editor. It is played here by Geoff Olson, organist of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Paul, MN. The organ is a 1916 Wicks pipe organ with later pipes added by the Hunt Organ Company for a total of 30 ranks. The pipes are supplemented with a Hauptwerk virtual organ system, using the 65-stop 1877 Father Willis Organ at Salisbury Cathedral, England. This piece uses a zimbelstern added to the organ by Associated Organ Builders. To listen to more of my organ videos, go to / geoffolson1039 .
Hope you enjoy this piece and thanks for listening

Very nice use of the zimbalstern. The word SCHON should have an umlaut on the O, but we don’t use that in the English language. Literal translation is How Beautiful Shines. But, the music transcends any language barrier. Well done, Geoff.

That’s a very nice zimbelstern. Is it real or digital?

Thanks Jim. My congregation enjoys it as well, especially during the Christmas season.
