This panel drove me insane. Throughout the first 3/4 it seemed like Alex sort of begrudged the fact that his opinions were often disagreed with or sidestepped in favor of Collin's very conservative pretentious point of view, which he often espoused to contradict whatever was being said... however, the longer it went on, I guess I'm seeing that Alex wasn't thinking that, because I found myself thinking that of Collin. I don't doubt he's intelligent, but he's definitely not someone I think most people would be able to have a back and forth conversation with very easily.

I think WE Americans like McQueen because he didn't obey the "RULES" OF fashion. He through theater made the clothes relatable. It was our light bulb moment in fashion. We finally understood the idea of a line telling a story... birds of flight or rape victims fleeing or car paint jets painting a dress. We understood what it meant through the theater of fashion.

But only because Mcqueens fashions are still very relatable to Americans. McQueen fashion romatcize rape victims or birds or whatever. They pretty much respect conventionals meanings of fashion (Theathrical fashion and period fashion but still) in the essence and that's why people like it. BUT when confronted to the people that REALLY subvert fashion history most people (not just americans) will turn their heads the other way, wheter it's Yohji Yamamoto or Martin Margiela because they are fantastic but not a in the form you would expect. My point is that people "get" McQueen and Galliano but that not the case most of the times.

I have to say that the discussion on the "abuse of body" round 40:00. I see plenty of abuse of body when women starve themselves on juice fads. I'll take a healthy glowing plump girl. Once it was out of fashion to be to thin.. now to fat... this YOYO fad of fat in fat out. Plenty of abuse not just overindulging. Other than that LOVE the conversation.

The discussion about is fashion art makes me come to the conclusion that cuisine, fashion, and architecture are the most important endeavors in life, b/c they serve people the most. Cheap or luxurious. Art as in painting, photography, or film only serve the intellect while the former 3 serve both the body & mind.

Colin McDowager, what a frightfully outmoded reactionary old fossilised queen. Lol
