Monika is just retarded. Indie horror games have yet to be anything more than a bunch of cryptic meaningless "clues" thrown together and given to the internet to play with. Most of the time the "plot" isn't there, and the let the internet talk about it until there's a story. The other times it's buried so deep nobody even knows it exists until the internet dig through the pointless spooky details for countless wasted hours.
Hokay #1, this video was great, funny and I loved it. But #2, I've been sitting on this for way too long and it KEEPS getting brought up and no one else will care but here we go TP Ganondorf was introduced roughly halfway through the game's story, LONG before the end, while also building off the ending of OoT. It was clearly telegraphed, introduced fairly early, and he was shown as the ultimate instigator of the game's plot. THERE, now I'm gonna go watch him do those sweet skateboard tricks again.
Russel Dyson They're only mixed because your worried about societal pressure related to sexuality. Human sexuality is actually really simple: if it turns you on, then let it, and enjoy it in ways that don't harm yourself or others. Figure out what to label yourself later. :)
I think big boss is better as a sympathetic villian as she had to betray her country to save it, but ig ocelot fits as a well character too. I just dont know his motives half the time.
I will always remember my big brothers most useful quote, He came to me and he said, all villains fall under two categories. You’ve got your Bowsers, And you’ve got your Glad0ses
First time hearing her, dang I like her voice a little too much. Why do I really like some female voices? Like she could read the phone book and make it sound good (yes, I'm comparing her to Morgan Freeman, so what? Man I'm gonna regret this comment.)
I'm gonna level with you, Alax. "Simple" and "Godlike" are in no universe the two ends of a spectrum pertaining to motivation. "Sympathetic" somehow being 'inbetween' these two also just kind of. Doesn't make any sense to me, like you don't even really explain how it's 'inbetween' them, other than... these two qualities that have nothing to do with morality? Like, I just thinking putting it as a straight line misrepresents your point. I feel like what you're going for would be better accomplished by, like... a triangle? Where "Sympathetic" "Simple" and "Godlike" are the three points, with most villains finding themselves somewhere in the space between the three?
Their relation is whether people can understand them or not. Simple villains are easy because they have simple desires. They mostly lack morality. Sympathetic villains have more of a reason for their misdeeds, and we can weigh their morality with caution. Godlike villains are weird because we can't grasp their motivations. They'll either push morality or lack it.
(Just to add to the above reply) Simple villains like any evil team Pokémon leader (Maxie/Archie, for example) clearly state why they want to do something, but stop once they learn it’s basically hell from there. Sympathetic villains like Flowey who state in a boss fight why they do bad. Flower was Asriel, and resented humans when he lost his soul. Godlike villains like Calamity Ganon, who can’t heccin speak so we don’t know why they want death.
Runningon Cylinders I disagree with this pretty fundamentally, particularly because I feel a force-of-nature, all-encompassing villain is more easily understood by general audiences than a truly nuanced, or at least sufficiently sympathetic villain.
He doesn't even talk about any sympathetic villains except for barely mentioning some while Monika is talking. It just gets glossed over for the whole Monika skit which was honestly pretty unfunny. Like... was the joke including sympathetic villains into the discussion? That's what it seems like to me, but this shouldn't be the case when the antagonists (better suited for those of the sympathetic nature) actually CAN be related to. It just left me scratching my head and the end of the video. I actually said "That's it?" when it ended which is not a good thing. Also, I agree with your point of sympathetic not being well placed between the two other qualities, because it's a quality that can be applied to both, which he essentially did say but contradicted himself when saying that they're in a category of their own. Not all villains are ones you can sympathize with, it should not be a quality of it's own, just a trait that should be pertained to the villain it's applied to.
j1mjam_ Pretty sure that part was skipped is because the follow up to this video will cover it (presumably with Monika in control of the script or whatnot)
I know you talked about count Bleck in the video, but I remember feeling terrible for the guy when he was down on his knees. He seemed like a sympathetic villian to me. All he was looking for was his lost lover that so happened to be the person that guided you throughout the game? Idk. I just remember feeling bad for they guy. Dimento on the other hand pissed me off every time I saw him.
I'll go off on a limb and admit that Bowser's my favorite villain - he's strong, menacing (during his better moments, anyway), has an enjoyable personality, and is usually the most hilarious thing ever. I honestly love how awesome he is at his best moments (especially _Bowser's Inside Story)._
Thats only on spin off titles tough, which are known to make very enjoyable characters in general. In main line titles, he is pretty darn bland, i always preferred King K.rool
My favourite simple villain has to be Ridley, he's like Bowser or Dedede but instead of just being a bully he's taken to the ultimate extreme where he's basically the Joe Chill of the Metroid series where his misdeeds unwittingly created the ultimate warrior. I also like him because of what a creepy idea it is that Ridley cannot die, or if he does destiny will intervene and revive him again. It makes him almost like a phantom who just haunts Samus' very existence. My favourite god villain is probably Hades from Kid Icarus Uprising mostly because he's just of a parody of the evil god trope. Instead of being a pure evil lord of darkness he acts more like just a troll who just takes pleasure in messing with the forces of good. And without a doubt my favourite sympathetic villain is Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid. The guy is so sympathetic most people don't even think of him as a villain anymore.
i dont think i can see Ridley as akin to being like a phantom. he can totally die, as things are he is currently dead and has been dead since before Metroid Fusion. the whole X-copy does have a bit of the "destiny intervenes" coincidence thing though. the real bothersome part about Ridely is how good/fearsome of a commander he must be. the Space Pirates always clone/revive him when they can, they dont move on and find another commander. they dont ever try to have 2 of him at once(i mean they have cloned him to bring him back so you'd think they might have more than 1 clone at a time.) my main point about it being that they must be friggin useless when he is not alive at the time being.
@@ArcRay20 Nah the Prime series shows they can totally function without Ridley where they treat him more like an anomaly who happens to be a great leader than the glue that keeps them together. They've technically never actually cloned him either. After he died in Metroid one they simply reconstructed him as Meta Ridley in the prime series where he went on to continue living until he does properly in Super Metroid slowly regaining his biological parts in preparation of that game. After Super Metroid it's the galactic federation that clones him and later the X parasites that copy his DNA but the pirates have never tried it.
Arc Ray Just to be clear I don’t honestly think Ridley is constantly being revived by some supernatural force. But considering just how often he appears to die and miraculously is revived by cybernetics, cloning or parasites it sometimes feels like it.
Lyon from Fire emblem sacred stones has always been a cool sympathetic villain to me. The information you get about him through flashbacks in the story really make you care about him
Personally I think simple villains are necessary You can get pretty bored of villains that make you sympathetic, sometimes you just want a bad guy to beat you know? Some enemy where you don't find yourself asking whether or not it's right to fight them Not thrilled with godlike villains though, especially since they have a bad habit of being forced into games at the end, throwing away the interesting or fun villain's we've been fighting all along. Like Grima in FE:A or most of the final bosses in Sonic games after 3&Knuckles
FE villains have never been good, they are serviciable at best. Grima, and other all powerful entities like gods or even empires, are good at putting focus on the characters, rather than the villains themselves. And considering what happens in Awakening, id say that while Grima is not a good villian by itself, it is the catalyst for some very good moments and overall the main design of the plot with is pretty good IMO. I agree on the simple villians tough, all a villian actually needs to be good is to move the plot, and to be fun, performance driven characters. Fawful or Hades are still MUCH better than a lot of "serious villians"
Grima is bad not because he is simple, but because he is supposed to be a big deal in a game with a serious plot, and he has almost nothing going for him.

PK Okey I see where you are coming from, I used to think she was best girl too. But when I played through the game on my own, I saw how hard sayori had it. I understood how she felt. I wanted to help her, just protect her as best as I could. She’s cute, and tries her best to make people happy while not receiving anything in return. She deserves care and affection. She is a precious cinnamon bun that deserves only the best to come her way.
metagross9092 bro, you do realize this video is about Villains right? This has nothing to do with the Mario series, I even added Marx there which is a Kirby character. Wtf, at least say something that makes sense to my comment if you’re gonna say something
Wouldn't Magolor be an overall better option than Marx? Y'know because he had more screen time. But there are a lot of Kirby villains that would be interesting to mention...
Bomberman 64 is probably still one of my favorite bait and switches for a villain story. Mind you, I was a kid who hadn't experienced too many games yet, but the idea that you can finish the game and not realize your greatest ally is actually the villain is kinda neat. Only after you collect all the gold cards in the game do you realize that your buddy ol' pal Sirius is the true villain, and now you have to go to his weird floating secret island to finish the fight. Most players just beat Altair (the assumed villain) and called it quits. In their mind that was the complete story. But in reality they only wiped out the only thing that originally had a chance at stopping Sirius and the second part of the game still remained.
@@mr.l8362 I find Malos to be somewhere inbetween by the end Xenoblade 2 spoilers . . . . Just before the final the battle, he lost his source of evil, and doesn't know what to be anymore. He's an entertaining ass from the beginning to end, but he was only evil because some holy dude was

I don't find Monika, or any of your "skit characters", cringy. I feel they fit with your style.
Especially rad dude Ganondorf
I love these dudes, and Monika xD
Monika is just retarded. Indie horror games have yet to be anything more than a bunch of cryptic meaningless "clues" thrown together and given to the internet to play with. Most of the time the "plot" isn't there, and the let the internet talk about it until there's a story. The other times it's buried so deep nobody even knows it exists until the internet dig through the pointless spooky details for countless wasted hours.
I agree, they're fun
Awesomeness101 I disagree.
Hokay #1, this video was great, funny and I loved it.
But #2, I've been sitting on this for way too long and it KEEPS getting brought up and no one else will care but here we go
TP Ganondorf was introduced roughly halfway through the game's story, LONG before the end, while also building off the ending of OoT. It was clearly telegraphed, introduced fairly early, and he was shown as the ultimate instigator of the game's plot.
THERE, now I'm gonna go watch him do those sweet skateboard tricks again.

Are you talking about Revolver Ocelot (Revolver Ocelot)?
I think big boss is better as a sympathetic villian as she had to betray her country to save it, but ig ocelot fits as a well character too. I just dont know his motives half the time.

(Just to add to the above reply)
Simple villains like any evil team Pokémon leader (Maxie/Archie, for example) clearly state why they want to do something, but stop once they learn it’s basically hell from there.
Not all villains are ones you can sympathize with, it should not be a quality of it's own, just a trait that should be pertained to the villain it's applied to.
j1mjam_
Pretty sure that part was skipped is because the follow up to this video will cover it (presumably with Monika in control of the script or whatnot)
I just love every Ganondorf-Amiibo-on-a-TechDeck segment.
They're very well done.
Vergil from Devil May Cry 3 is the best villain/antagonist.
Devil shall not cry becouse he is fuckin satan

@@sparexcalibur *NO!* Snatcher is the only acceptable villain in this world.
I was excited to hear a breakdown of Akechi as a villian, since he's my favorite character in Persona 5. And then... Monika..
A good villain lets you understand them, you may not agree with their actions but you understand them
I'll go off on a limb and admit that Bowser's my favorite villain - he's strong, menacing (during his better moments, anyway), has an enjoyable personality, and is usually the most hilarious thing ever. I honestly love how awesome he is at his best moments (especially _Bowser's Inside Story)._
Thats only on spin off titles tough, which are known to make very enjoyable characters in general. In main line titles, he is pretty darn bland, i always preferred King K.rool
“I’m sonic but”
*BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH*
The guy is so sympathetic most people don't even think of him as a villain anymore.
i dont think i can see Ridley as akin to being like a phantom. he can totally die, as things are he is currently dead and has been dead since before Metroid Fusion. the whole X-copy does have a bit of the "destiny intervenes" coincidence thing though.
the real bothersome part about Ridely is how good/fearsome of a commander he must be.
the Space Pirates always clone/revive him when they can, they dont move on and find another commander. they dont ever try to have 2 of him at once(i mean they have cloned him to bring him back so you'd think they might have more than 1 clone at a time.)
my main point about it being that they must be friggin useless when he is not alive at the time being.
He's also the Joker of the Metroid series. Maniacal, chaotic, works for other villains only to help himself, never truly dies... EVER...
Ridley dies all the time, it's just that space tech means that when his body is recovered they'll be able to revive him.
The information you get about him through flashbacks in the story really make you care about him
Aniese K.
If it’s a fight Ephraim wants it’s a fight he will get.
"What's that? Ganon's drowning Hyrule? Hold on lemme get my water wings."
Personally I think simple villains are necessary
You can get pretty bored of villains that make you sympathetic, sometimes you just want a bad guy to beat you know? Some enemy where you don't find yourself asking whether or not it's right to fight them
Not thrilled with godlike villains though, especially since they have a bad habit of being forced into games at the end, throwing away the interesting or fun villain's we've been fighting all along.
I disagree, I love a good godlike being to spit stars at.
Complex villains DON'T have to be sympathetic... I can recall very few examples of complex non-sympathetic villains.
So....
Dedede?
Grima is bad not because he is simple, but because he is supposed to be a big deal in a game with a serious plot, and he has almost nothing going for him.

Are you sure you didn't click for Monika?
Monika...
