Shaolin monk def my fav song to play on drums, and u killed it man! inspiring to see you add further challenge to learning the song under stress, respect
Congratulations you got it! I read somewhere Perrin moss was a busking drummer who played a cajon, snare, & hats set up. So his approach to the kit stylistically nuanced to say the least. 🙌🏾
sheeeeesh YOUR CHOPS dude!! this video absolutely spotlights the sheer musicality in your playing. as a long time fan of Hiatus Kaiyote and a long time follower of yours, this video has me GEEKING out
Admittedly I've never heard of this group, or any of these songs. So thank you for bringing them, and this drummer, to my (and anyone else who's uninitiated) attention. I can't say I'm a fan of this 'type' of music, but I can respect the ability of this group and the fact it's not simple pop music. Interesting drumming, looks like it would be fun to play.. I think my wife (who's a vocalist) may dig this. I'm going to introduce her to it and give it some ear time. As for you, of course you could the gig. Like the others in this series, you're catching the important bits without simply xeroxing, laying the groove and feel (and I'd say sound) similar to what's expected and known by the group from the primary drummer. Well done as usual Nate.. 👍😗
Loved watching you learn By Fire (again)! My high school big band is playing the tune, and I’m VERY grateful that my director gave me more than a few days warning lmao
It's been a while I do enjoy some Hiatus Kaiyote, but the first time I heard them/her it was like the first I heard Steve Coleman (& the five elements era)!
Wow Nate, it's been a good 8 or 9 months since I last watched content of yours, and man I feel like you've grown a lot since then, both as a content creator and as a musician :) It's so cool to see. It's like seeing your friend's kid once in a blue moon, and everytime you can really see the progress they've made, the way their language skills evolved, etc. Really cool stuff, keep it up and I wish you at LEAST another 100k subs!! (was also kinda stoked to see that number, damn!) You deserve it!!
Really like the new camera angle that's more to your right, behind the ride. Visual distinction of the snare and hi-tom FTW 🙂 Also, never heard of this band before, very cool stuff..
Yeah man, considering the sheer number of quirky Perrin-isms, and “no straight beats” in favor of compositional drumming, I’d say you did incredibly well. 100% agree that pure # of reps on this material the only for anyone but Perrin to find and hold that prerequisite steez for any whole song, let alone a full set. There are so many moments (transitions especially) where there’s a push or pull that’s v idiosyncratic to Perrin’s playing…especially the spots where it breathes and opens kinda suddenly. Plus there’s just so so many teeny things to cop that you can get swallowed by chasing them all. Yeah, man…great work
Ahhh....one of my favorite groups and sweet drumming styles. Could I do the gig? Probably no...but, I would say that I could just so that I could meet the band. And who knows...they may like my style.
Remember when we say get nominated for Grammys doesn't mean they actually were. That had to submit their own work and say why. No one put them there except themselves.
This music is really up your alley... it is like you trancended from technical to musical within a heartbeat. :) (or perhaps your are still hanging inside the meinl cymbals limbo of yummy swirl...)
Drumming? A definite yes! .....Clothes? Needs a step up 🤩
Lol
Nate, my man. I think you've found your style. This sounds like music inspired by your improv. Congratulations on a great job.
Nai Palm is my favorite female artist of all time. She's the perfect artist.
Such a cool weird group, so glad I found them and they’ve gained a good bit of notoriety.
I was listening to Kayote, and you dropped this vid right at that instant

Daaaamn, good job, mate! Feels like your comfort zone!
👌You have taken on something very difficult and you have achieved it. Congratulations!!!

I was working on these songs on drums yesterday and what happened this morning? YT shows me this video . Good job !
You sound good, lively, and inspired, and especially on this music.

Love your cymbals❤
You got it! And the new set of cymbals really shine on this kind of music. I love them to death, you chose great and with taste.

You got it! Every time I learn an odd song where ‘1’ is uncertain, I always wonder… could I have helped write the song??? The answer is always NO
Love your content!! what crash do you use?! they sound so good!
Awesome! Yes, you could. They’re like if Sungazer, Erika Badu and Emily King had a prog baby.
Is there a video where you break down your gear? Specifically cymbals? Really intuitive playing !
yea my most recent penultimate video - just search "8020 drummer meinl"
Hipster Jazz
