Love this dude, guy has fantastic chops and groove but plays a janky dilla beat in this video which would throw off a lot of people. This band can be fairly conceptually challenging and I don't blame a lot of people for not getting it.
dude, we need more live clever austin stuff on youtube. Please!!! that boiler room show is so good but the audio is shit and also cuts out right when the alto starts to rip into a solo.
I think he sounds normal lol. Maybe you're used to a more Podcast-y type sound. This just sounds like the room has been recorded, lol. Maybe a touch boxy.
Another fun video to watch (if you have the patience) is "The Devin Townsend Toon Track Challenge". No editing, it was all streamed live. Loved watching it.
Not to be a jerk, but why is this a Cubase vid? Why didn't our man create a drum folder in his default? And as an engineer and a part time drummer...why put a D112 on hi-hats? As most nerds know, that is a kick/bass guitar dynamic mic. If that was his secret "you'd never guess what works!" move, then that should've been part of it. This video shows me that, basically "any one can make crappy recordings sound great with Cubase!"...and I'm not some old stodgy engineer. I like lo-fi weird stuff.
Because it's not EZ drummer and Axe FX, or because his procedure isn't exactly to protocol/ your preferences? Honestly man usually I'd be the first to say something bad about what looks like some stoner in his room fucking about, but this guy is the real deal. Hiatus Kaiyote are one of the most inspired and sonically interesting bands I've ever heard, their album "raise your weapon" is a real trip if you're into that kind of stuff, but regardless of that the production on their albums is great, a nice breath of fresh air.
He’s one of the best drummers ever and he’s multi instrumental. How much cooler can he be
Yeah, all his parts sound so creative, I really haven't heard anything like it.
love the fact that every instrument/computer/interface in perrins studio are all at sitting-height😂
Never thought about that.))
I am still floored by how you sit in your bedroom studio = creative space.
"floored" .... nice
I love Perrin's stuff as Clever Austin!! it's interesting to see his space
Anyone know what studio monitors he is using?
This is so underrated. Love your work.

Anyone catch what he says they "messed around with" at 0:25? Played it like 3 times and I just can't hear it
Space echo microphone
Can anybody recognize any of those synthesizers apart from the Korg Polyphonic Ensemble and Elektron MachineDrum?
what headphones are those?
For all the haters: This is the result cleveraustin.bandcamp.com/
Paul Bender I feel that the outcome still terrible😭
I guess they're just cubase nerds who haven't heard hiatus kaiyote albums

Benderrrrrrrrrrr
Amazing video, gonna save this for inspiration.)
What audio interface is he using to get all of those inputs
It's an Apollo UAD.
Nice!! Why his voice sound like that 🔊 it sounds like a movie theater 🎭 is it the room or some kind of mic setting?

I don't get it....the DAW is called Cubase Pro 9
WOW! 🔥

i'm still watching your 3rd video and am yet to see anything impressive
It would be impressive if he had a chair....
I like that sitting on the floor bit, the rest is a disorganized mess.
well listen to either of the hiatus kaiyote lps if you want to be impressed by his work lmao
Ok
10 minutes... I suspect cheating via editing.

"any one can make crappy recordings sound great with Cubase!" that might actually be the point... marketing!
I think he said it was an AKG d19
No rule book to making music. How you paint is how you paint. Something he doing is working cause he is dope.
You sound lame
Listen to his music.
what am I watching...

Music fakery. Very disappointing musical content.
we are talking about audio recording and the speaker sounds like sh... this could not be serious...
you're judging the sound of a set of speakers being recorded by a mono mic built into a DSLR, are YOU serious???
Well that was terrible.
