Nice Video! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Lammywalness Trendy Trade Guide (should be on google have a look)? It is a great exclusive guide for learning how to recondition batteries at home without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my best friend Jordan at very last got astronomical success with it.
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to discover how to recondition battery try Battery Recovery Tactics ( battery.RecoveryTactics.com ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cousin got great success with it.
Really good for a person not finding new battery in the market easily or no budget for a new one. It will bring hope for him/her to revive his/her laptop.
Because of you I managed to salvage a bunch of 18650 batteries that would go to waste because the computer was broken. Thank you so much! I can now reuse the 18650s🥳
I was hesitant to solder a battery. I copied what you did and it worked fine. Thanks!!
Even after full charged ( auto cutoff green light turned on) as shown in video, why it is showing 73% when checked in laptop. It means one of the 4 batteries u did not change is gone. U checked 2 batteries in parallel at a time, obviously it won't show if one in 2 parallel connected batteries is bad. Best is to test each battery seperately.
Yes middle battery not both are damage
Yes, you're right, I was also thinking about this issue, when he was measuring voltage..

Pls reply to my comment about being unable to fit the soldered pack back due to solder bumps. I think thats why they do strip resistance welding.
Thank you for taking the time to show us.

Thanks and my pleasure..
Thanks, but I wasn't keen on seasonal music! The most important and worrying thing, however, is that you played the music over the soldering. It needs to be stressed that lithium batteries should not be overheated by excessive use of a soldering iron. Best wishes from London UK.
Ok
I believe some laptop battery packs will self-destruct if you remove a pair of cells or cut off the voltage to the controller board in the pack. Thus when the cells are replaced, the pack will refuse to work, and laptop will not recognize it. This is done to stop tampering of the sort you see in the video. I believe if you maintain the voltage when replacing, by using an external power source, this barrier can be circumvented
.
You are correct. You have to do this very carefully because once tampered, it will even refuse to detect same battery packs.
You are correct - mine self-destructed (by burning out a PCB track) when I replaced two middle cells. I had separated all the cells to test them separatedly and I did not realise that the pack memory chip (a BQ20Z75) has the ability to destroy the circuit if its senses that the battery pack has been interfered with !

Great video but I have a question wouldn't it be safer to replace all six batteries at once because you don't know how many cycles the old/new batteries have so the capacity would be different thus potentially causing issues?
it would be better.
cells are cheap,so if u r doing this do a complete replace
@@newyork9453 Please guide from where cells can be purchased. Thanks in advance
@@KULDEEPSINGH-ok7yt These are called 18650 lithium cells, easily u can order from any online shop or from local electric store.
Avoid buying chinese versions
Panasonic,LG and Sony are great
and U can buy versions with high amp(u can ask from seller they guid you)and make your battry last longer
@@newyork9453 I would also recommend buying cells with solder tabs already installed. You aren't supposed to solder directly to the battery terminals (heat can cause cell to explode + they don't make for good solder joints. Solder won't want to stick to them). The solder tabs are tack welded usually which requires special equipment.
So look for ones with solder tabs when you go to buy the cells. It will save you a lot of trouble. ;)
If the power is completely cut off from the bms chip, it will die and you will not be able to turn it on again

Hello, just came back from the workshop after following the steps in you video and hey presto nice fully charged battery. In my case there was a badly soldered wire which was loose on opening which had the effect of reducing the top voltage to 8v also although all the cells were ok one was adrift from its welded tie reducing the capacity. Fixed both and now a nice big smile. Thanks for the inspiration to give it a try.
Great to here. Pleasure is all mine. Thanks
@@innovativeideas but mostly, the defective one, is the small circuit, inside the battery pack! lol
Dear sir, many, many thanks for your very productive project. I will now be able to use at-lease once the non-working pack. regards, aftab ahmed. London
Explanations and the video are very very clear. The demo. Is also very good. Thanks.
Good informative video, thank you.Saving lot of unnecessary spending purchasing new battery.
If these replaced cells have much defferent internal resistance and capacity than other cells then the battery will not work for long.
Is there required amperage for laptops?
i was wondering about this
it means replacing all battery cells with same mah will be better?
I'm impressed. Everyone else just replaced everything. Testing the batteries and replacing the bad ones is a good idea. Can the batteries have good voltage but a high internal resistance causing them to perform poorly? Mine shows 100percent charge but the laptop quits instantly when unplugged

Well done sir! Very clear and practical.I guess your logic is that you save money from buying a new "battery" pack, so you can buy more things for yourself and your family at Christmas. Smart, innovative man!
You can't do normal soldering on this type of 18650 battery. If you do so, the the extreme heat during soldering will destroy the battery life. That's why preferred method is spot welding.
Arjun Chatterjee exactly but don’t expect a person with a English accent like this one to care about things like that 😂
Very good excellent and easy way to check and repair the battery thanks to shering video.
I did the same but notification says your battery is permanently failed.
Very good video and much appreciated... New batteries are terribly over-priced. Where can I purchase individual new cells of the same type? Denny
Thanks a lot. You are very clear in your instructions, and super understandable.
You can buy copy replacement batteries fairly cheaply. I don't recommend trying this, get it wrong, and it wont be just your battery you'll be replacing, it will be your whole laptop. Getting it wrong can also be a fire risk when plugged into the mains for recharging, That's your home at risk then too. All in all, it's just not worth the hassle.

Work it or not
Thanks. Mine looked almost identical on the outside, except the connector is centered (HP Pavilion dv6700). It was much harder to open since the plastic was apparently melt-welded at the seams, so had to cut & break the plastic to get it apart. The batteries were also glued inside the case. Otherwise the six 18650 batteries were welded together the same and the 2 center ones were also reading no charge. Perhaps the middle ones die because they get hotter.
Is repairing battery is as new battery?
@@abdulnafay72
No, a new battery pack should be better if the cells are from a quality manufacturer (ex. Panasonic). Been a while, but I recall my repair worked, but the case got a bit mangled from the effort. I ran across a new battery pack on ebay or Amazon for ~$20 USD so bought one. Previously, a new pack cost $150 which wasn't justified for an older laptop PC. I recovered the good 18650 batteries and use them in flashlights now (plus some from other packs). Many people say they are still good-as-new if they charge to 4.2 VDC, but seems some of them do so but don't last long in the flashlight before needing recharge though haven't done new vs old comparisons. People use used 18650 batteries for many things, including rigging up backs for e-bikes and e-scooters (many youtubes). A Tesla Model S uses ~7000 of them (not easily recovered or swapped).
@@williamgrissom9022 I am getting the battery repaired from the shop it would cost me around 10$ and if I will get new original battery it will cost me around 35$.
@@williamgrissom9022 If good quality cells are used then it is as new battery?
@@abdulnafay72 I would risk the $10 repair. Worst-case, you will have to recharge more often, but I plug in my laptop to a wall outlet whenever I can regardless.
Is there a laptop brand that got software inside the battery, that will prevent people from replacing the batteries?
E.g. if the PCB got no power at all, it will set a counter and the battery refused to charge? ( I remember to have read that people advice to put a power supply on the board with the same voltage of the batteries, so the pcb will not notice the temporary removal of the batteries) Is this true?
Are there other tricks that manufacturers use, to prevent replacing batteries and how to overcome this? Are there other reasons why this could not work?
Sir u r genius
You're really good. Thanks for the idea. I can now recondition my laptop battery
Repair is the best word, recondition is not. Battery conditiong is accomplished by depleting and recharging individual cells so the battery controller does not go into "safe mode".
At what level would you put in the new cells? Completely empty (3.5v) or full (4.2v)?
Love the Christmas music

I liked because you was very fast and clean... cool, from Brazil
And when the battery pack has reached such a low voltage that the internal charging circuit has switched off, how do you reactivate the charging circuit as it does not happen automatically once the battery pack has been "reconditioned" by the replacement of the faulty cells ??
Yes i needed the answer to this question.. someone expert please respond
Apply a voltage, until minimum required charge attained. Check power supply, for needed voltage. Or, charge each cell individually. I've done it with a tablet.
(I'm not an expert)
Thanks for your video
Does the current Capacity of the battery matter here
For example if I replace a (3.7 volt 2300 mah) battery with a (3.7 volt 12000 mah ) battery
Does that damage the circuit ?
It's not good for long term use. The li-ion battery set need balanced charging. It's better to replace all the 6 cells.
Many Laptop batteries have a custom IC that monitors the cells and will permanently deactivate if new cells are installed. I assume there is some way to reset the IC for new cells, but good luck figuring that out.

For complete %100 working accus, You need eeprom, mcu counter resetter debugger software and hardware.. Compatible with your accu mcu!!! Second if smd fuse damaged you have to changed.( mostly 35-50V /5~8 Amp), damaged mosfets, or opamps..sometimes mcu too..Thats most common problems.
we're the same laptop we use (G4-1318tx) Thanks for this video, have another idea!
This method only works in Christmas so do it before it gets patched
hahaah
This video while okay as a basic procedure is okay, there are several issues it does not.cover that will popup depending on the charge controller. i wont get into those, but wanted to share a trick I've learned to open the pack.
A trick you can try to open the battery pack's plastic case; with the connector side facing up and towards you, firmly hold one end in each hand, the gently twist the pack back and forth about its central horizontal axis (e.g. Turn your left hand back and right hand forward while keeping the pack horizontal) DO NOT twist it excessively as you can damage the charge controller board and possibly harm some wire connections. If you don't care about the charge controller you can be rougher.
Use at your own risk. I've had great sucess with most packs and the plastic case spilts perfectly on the seam with no or minimal breakage making is easy to glue back together once you have RE CELLED the pack.
Nice video!!!
I tried this to my laptop's battery and I would like to ask you if the new cells must have the same capacity with the older because after I did that with higher capacity cells(I replaced them all
),battery doesn't charge even though it recognizes it normally.
Yes. Must be exactly the same with everything because the circuit will never recognize
Or the circuit must be restarted before connect them with batteries
Still you have to reset the mcu & eeprom counters. So you need debugging tool softaware and hardware. Forget about your accu. Go buy new one.
Absolutely amazing, only method that really works, thanks
I don't recommend replacing few cells with totally different brand . As different cells made by different manufacturers react differently when plugged to recharge . You will overheat or potentially blast
No. Because the charge is balanced.

The white light indicates that the battery is 100% charged. But when u switch ON the laptop, it's only 73% charged. Why so?
DAD OF ADS good point, since it was old battery and I was not having new li ion cells, which I have re installed.
I have hp dv4 laptop. In my case, the white led beside the dc jack indicates that you have dc power and not to indicate 100% charged. There is another set of white leds located below the keyboard for hardisk activities, and charging condition.
I think it was a calibration issue, when the laptop battery was not good, it had let's say 85% of theoretical capacity in power available, so computer remap 85% of power to be 100% full. But when he turned the laptop on current was able to go into the battery so the computer understood it os not full, and will calibrate it again
I'm surprised you decided to solder the tabs back onto the battery cells. Isn't that dangerous, as the heat might cause the battery to catch fire? Typically I think those tabs are welded instead, which a normal consumer doesn't have equipment to do,
Normally it is spot welded. Spot welder can be made from a Microwave transformer.
And yes you are right, Soldering 18650 can heat up and inturn blast/Catch fire. At times it can melt the covering and shorten a battery which can results in blast or fire.
Wow, you are amazing bro. May I know where is your service center so that I can get my battery to get it fixed.
Thank you so much, without knowing I had changed two of my systems with new battery. Not any more
That’s interesting! Even though the good-condition cells’ voltage are not same , you combine them. Aren’t they supposed to be the same voltage?
In parallel yes, in series no, as long as the voltage is in a safe range and you put it on a charge. The BMS deals with balancing all the cells, but it doesn't hurt to make them similar in voltage.
It looks easy for you to soldear the battery. What kind of flux you use and How to make it? Thanks a lot.
I want to know about repair of the keyboard of this version HP pavilion g4 laptop.
@innovativeideas is it possible rather than just replacing dead cells, i also increase the battery's capacity by adding more cells? If it is possible what kind of configuration should it be?
checking voltage with no load doesn't give a good image of the batteries real condition
With no load means? What load you want
The meter he's using was the load, wasn't it?
Well try a load of at least 1amp and see if the battery can handle it. How fast depleted?
Some people know nothing about battery and still trying to say they are expert 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@mr.electronicsdevicevlog9333 True enough! The capacity of the battery is just as important - unless you just want a quick temporary fix!
@@dragonballthings688 When I was a young lad, my dad would drive his car to the garage for a battery test. I was fascinated to watch the mechanic put a heavy gauge prong with a big gauge resistor across its cells, with a meter. It sparked spectacularly, then the mechanic would take the reading. The same principle works on lithium batteries (without the fireworks), but scaled down. Modern meters take hardly any current compared to the old swing-needle analogue ones, unless they are designed to test batteries.

It's better not to solder the cells, as not everyone is professional. Better to give it to highly experienced person.
People are far more capable than you give them credit for. Professional is just a paywall for people who prey on others ignorance. Don't be part of the fear mongering culture that likes to keep people uninformed and incapable. For example: Did you know that barbers used to do dentistry? Imagine paying 20$ instead 4000$ for the same procedure.

Hi Very innovative. Please tell me waht is the substance you rub on the metal tag before putting on solder?

First you Must replace all cells with same brand .the cells must have same voltage .finally it is necessary to flash the battery circuit we call it bms , this bms contain a small chip called 'smb' system management bus.
