Thank you for the video. You're awesome. It only took me about a minute to open an old dead laptop battery. I got 4 working batteries out of it (charging now) and 2 dead ones. I figure it saved me about 36 bucks. This is actually better for the environment, the laptop battery would have ended up in a landfill. Now the plastic case is recycled and there is 60% less waste in the near future. Haters are idiots, - it's next to impossible to short out a battery or cause "explosion" by doing this, the batteries are connected in series, even if you wedged screwdriver between their contacts somehow, (which is impossible because of how they are lined up) - nothing would happen. You just have to be careful and apply minimal pressure. And always wear safety goggles and electrician gloves when you do this if you want to be absolutely safe. Also - use a voltmeter and intelligent charger.
Some of them are welded along the seams so it is literally impossible to open them without cutting the plastic. Next one I open I am going to use a thin cutting blade on my dremmel grinder, replace the cells, and use epoxy to reseal the two halves again.
Thanks. If second hand store ever reopens from covid-19 closure I'll snag a few of these bulk bin .50 devices for their rechargeable batteries to use in DIY portable solar charger.
If you aren't trying to repair the battery and only want the cells inside its actually easier to just go outside and smash it on the floor. The casing will crack and you can easily pry what's left apart.
Hi, Interesting. I will take this in consideration next time I do it. I'm harvesting 18650 cells from laptop batteries and that looks easier than my method. Kind regards.
