This is probably a bit different from your usual reaction requests but can you do a vocal breakdown of these 3 SK musical actors performing the same 2-song cuts in their curtain calls from the same musical? I picked the clearest (face-on w minimal reverb) fancams w live audios possible for a fair comparison. 2 of them are famous career musical-theater actors (believe w different extent of formal vocal training backgrounds) & the 3rd is a singer-songwriter (known for pop ballads & occasional ventures into other genres eg jazz, rock etc; no formal vocal-training). I’d really love to hear you analyze the differences in their vocal techniques! some very unique vocals you should check out is Glassjaw from the early 2000s. one of the coolest vocal patterns & styles in their genre. Ape Dos Mil, Piano, cosmopolitan blood loss all good to try. Even if u dont feature it on a vid, Daryl Palumbo's vocal style is something you should hear.
You should do a reaction to "Handshake From Hell". On that song, Alissa really shows her range. You should also do a Arch Enemy reaction from The Angela Era. Best way to start is "Nemesis" or "We Will Rise" live in Tokyo 2008"
And then also Johan Liiva Era. They make few years ago small tour in Japan under name BLACK EARTH playing songs from first 3 Arch Enemy album. BLACK EARTH - Burn On The Flame (Official Video) : ruclips.net/video/V0eUgUfPsm4/видео.html
Thank you so much for including Angela I feel like a decent amount of people only have seen the newer arch enemy and have forgotten about her I remember Alissa from the agonist loved her in that band
I would love her to do a special, doing Nemesis twice, one with Angela in Tokyo, either 2008 or 2009 work they were both incredible than a newer version with Alissa from Wacken, Resurrection Fest, Bloodstock or any of the other festivals where they always finish their show with it. Comparing and contrasting the 2 versions and going into a more in depth analysis of harsh vocals with 2 different singers singing the exact same song but in different ways that both feel natural to the song.
A lot of people keep requesting it. I think this might be some sort of a deal or a promo thing. Where Alissa comes in for an interview and Elizabeth does a vocal analysis video on a newer single. It's probably how she gets some of these high profile bands/singers to come in for an interview. She has done this a few times before where a tea time and a new song are released at the same time.
@@genemoineau9749 Heck yes, Reason to Believe was so incredible and about a very difficult subject written in a surprisingly inspired way considering the subject matter. Definitely a different song from the typical Arch Enemy experience but does show just how talented the band as a whole and Alissa herself are as musicians.
@@ToveriJuri Surely it's kind of a promo-thing. But who cares!? And speaking to an interviewer more than 2hrs is def not "normal promo length" whatsoever (haven't watched the interview yet).
I truly appreciate Alissa as a vocalist, you can tell by her studio recordings and stage performance that she gives the band her all. She really embodies what Arch Enemy represents, I really love her as an artist. Arch Enemy just overall is a hell of a band, so fast and dynamic yet so heavy and dark. They are all excellent in their craft 👏😍
I wish someone would check out her time in the Agonist. They were a way more dynamic band. Alissa got to show off her full range of harsh and clean vox.
I liked her when she was with The Agonist. I went to see Otep play 12 years ago, and The Agonist was one of the opening bands. Had never heard of them before that night. And as much as I liked Otep, I was blown away by Alissa's vocals more.
@@maglinjem While not my favourite The Agonist song, it definitely would be the prime candidate for a vocal analysis due to all the different techniques being displayed, also cool music video :)
It has not released yet, but I ABSOLUTELY recommend you checking out the song "Stygia" Alyssa provided the vocals for, from the Game "Hellsinger", which is to release in September. There are already versions on YT, but I obviously dunno how that would work legally for you. However, this is a BIG recommend, because she not only shows her Growls in all their beauty, but also delves REALLY deep into her full clean range and the song is just perfect. Thank you for always delivering quality content, Elizabeth!
If you liked Jeff Loomis' guitar style, I highly recommend checking out NEVERMORE. The lead singer, Warrel Dane (RIP), has a unique vocal style that would best be described as 'Darkened Power Metal'. I would recommend 'The Godless Endeavor' to start. They have toured with Opeth, Arch Enemy and Megadeth, just to name a few.
I'm pretty sure I said this before, you should check Alissa in her time with The Agonist, perhaps Thank You Pain being the most iconic, I bet you will enjoy it a lot!
You're finally getting closer to one of my top 3 vocalists. Aside from Geoff Tate and Jon Arch (Fates Warning, Arch/Matheos). The guitarist Jeff Loomis was a founding member of Nevermore with vocalist (R.I.P.) Warrell Dane who also sang for Sanctuary who was produced by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. Warrell had a style of his own. From the piercing "Battle Angels" to the entire "Into the Mirror Black" album. When he Formed Nevermore he really got into his groove.
I know how much you love live performances, both to see the singers as they're singing but also the extras different bands put into their live performances to contrast them with the studio versions. My favorite "extra" from Alissa is her introduction to War Eternal in each of their concerts since War Eternal released. "We are Arch Enemy, and this is fucking war", the way she always does the "fucking war" bit is incredible. Slightly different in each performance, I think their best version was hands down Resurrection Fest 2019 with her roar on war and than the music entering echoing her roar further, it's such a brilliant moment with Alissa roaring like a true lioness that we can only listen to in the live performances. So I would love to see Elizabeth react to that part specifically but also the song as a whole, being from the early days of the Alissa era of Arch Enemy. Here is the Resurrection Fest 2019 version I was talking about: ruclips.net/video/c38H8DrlGxg/видео.html Begin watching at 6:14 for the "We are Arch Enemy..." part.
Finally, Alissa! It would be nice to hear what you think of her clean vocals; '''Business suits and combat boots'' and ''Thank you pain'' from her time with her first band The Agonist.
Bro I have made the exact comment like 3 times do your self a favour Stygia from metal hell singer the video game Alissa did the vocals clean and harsh bro you'll love it it's like when she was in the agonist
CrazyEightyEight - “Shinebox” (live one-take performance by Lauren Babic) voice of an angel, scream of a demon. Love iiitttt. And as somebody replied before, “Release the Babic!”
I would love to see your reaction to HAKEN playing their song Visions live in Amsterdam, they're a band with alot of classical route and it's definitely a journey to go thru.
Love the analysis and reaction to this song! Great choice of song too, it's such a heavy hitter and I've learned a lot about the vocal techniques Alissa uses and how the track is produced which I didn't notice or appreciate before.
Great analysis and presentation as always! One of my favorite things about watching your reactions is getting exposure to music I've never heard before, but it especially helps appreciate genres I wouldn't normally listen to with how you delve in and break down what's going on. I'm sure this will get buried, but I'd be really curious to see you react to Cristina Scabbia's vocals in "Swamped" by Lacuna Coil, the live 119 performance! Cheers
Jeff Loomis, now a guitarist in Arch Enemy, was a founding member of Nevermore along with the late Warrel Dane, and they were a band that was very influential for their use of 7-string guitars in the early 2000's. Warrel passed away in 2017, but he was one of the greatest lyricists in all of metal, had an incredibly expansive vocal range, and poured his soul into his voice. I would recommend This Godless Endeavor, The Heart Collector or My Acid Words from their Year of the Voyager live performance. He would have been a fantastic tea time guest, too.
I have been waiting for these videos since I first discovered this channel. It's a shame RUclips didn't notify me until 11 days after they where posted. I'm very glad the OG of female harsh vocals has her interview now. Watching it right after this one for sure. Always appreciate the videos 👍
Love your humility, TCV! I saw some of what you yourself can do on the Tribal People channel. That's some powerful performance of yours. And you seem tireless in your efforts to assess so many other talents. I adore Arch Enemy as a band. Brilliant guitarists, nifty drumming and Alissa WG smashing her mighty vocals into our lil ear drums. Your two hour plus interview with her is one of my favorite RUclips vids ever.
I've been binging on your reaction videos a bit too much lately, they're so fun to watch :) Would love to see an analysis of some of the new Draconian stuff like The Sethian, Sacrificial Flame, Moon Over Sabaoth... I think you'd love the combination of voices
I've just recently discovered this channel and I really like it! I would love to hear your analysis of the group called "The Hu" it's basically metal Mongolian throat singing and is freaking amazing.
Nice! This one is my favourite of the singles from Deceivers so far (Handshake With Hell is wickedly good fun and probably most approachable but I like things *dark*)
Thanks Elizabeth, all the passion, nerdiness, and knowledge is fantastic! It’s great to see you digging more and more into harsh vocals, they really are just another form of expression after all. I’d love to see your analysis of Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder. Legend in metal, with an amazing vocals, having two distinct harsh vocal styles. Lost him back in May, but we was an absolutely amazing artist.
Jeff Loomis is one of my absolute favorite guitarists. So cool to see you reacting to material from him! He has to be mentioned in the conversation of most capable metal guitarists ever. As others have said, I highly recommend checking out his old band, Nevermore. They wrote some amazing music with strong messages. "This Godless Endeavor" would also be my pick for the introduction!
Check out "The Warning", you will fall in love with this 3 sisters from Mexico! You can start with their live session of the song "Choke" from their last album: ruclips.net/video/dxyRnm-G2PQ/видео.html Then there is a little surprise for you, song "Dust to dust": ruclips.net/video/TeIbG8nkOiU/видео.html Also recommend one of my favorite "Ugh": ruclips.net/video/aHUz9dR3gwg/видео.html You won't regret!
The double vowel sound on the "learned" is because you have to maintain an "o" shape to get the more guttural growls. The wider your mouth becomes, the growl becomes a scream.
I realize this would be better around the end of December, but Small Town Titans cover of You're A Mean One Mr Grinch could be a fun analysis. Love your channel, and love watching someone enjoy music so thoroughly! Keep on with your bad self.
Hi there...a few months ago you reacted to your first Nightwish track with Annette Olzon. She had a hard time filling Tarja's shoe, and Tuomas wrote as if she was still fronting the band. Take a shot at Annette's new band, "The Dark Element" (with guitarist/keyboardist Jani Liimatainen from Sonata Arctica) - songs are written for her, allowing for her strength to show to its best results - "The Ghost and the Reaper": ruclips.net/video/SZsuGtv3-co/видео.html
Found you by chance and have gotten some great new metal to listen to. Great to see someone with your experience showing that good music is good music. You should check out Light the Torch I really like their songs Die Alone and Safety of Disbelief. Howard Jones is such an amazing vocalist.
I had my hair that blue for 4 years and to keep it looking good and not washed out, I'd have to dye it every 2 weeks and spend a whole day with the dye on my head under a shower cap so the colour really stained the hair. Just thought I'd share as you were wondering how often to dye it.
Yea, Mycroft the Harbinger did squeal in delight, and the people did bask in the glory that is Arch Enemy. Well, for a while anyway. 🤪 Most cool. Crazy vocals! Congratulations once more to the Million subs! I am intrigued by this band.
I like her more in " the Agonist" much more, because there she was signing growl, scream and few versions of clean vocals, so it was much more showcasing her voice, while Arch Enemy songs are very typical and "standartized" and she sings similarly in each song, mainly with only growl and that's it. But Arch Enemy is much more popular and bigger band, so I can't blame her for going to here, she became hundred times more famous with it, and can spend more time singing and more time on herself.
Great review, once again! Been a fan of this band since the Black Earth days (Johan Lliva) and the Angela and Alissa days have been some of the best. Also, glad they are allowing Alissa to exercise more of her range. I think you would enjoy Lacuna Coil and Epica…Simone and Cristina are two of my favorite vocalists, aside from Alissa.
Doroty, the band, the lead singer of the same name has an amazing wardrobe in the song, 'What's Coming to Me.' Dogs are great, they are also a staple of post-apocalyptic media. The dog in Road Warrior, the dogs in the Fallout Series. All of that harkening back to the 1975 movie, 'A Boy and His Dog.'
I remember the 1st time I got introduced to arch enemy I was like damn that voice then my reaction when I saw she's a female... hahahaha I still can feel the shock
Hi! Huge fan! I have an odd recommendation for you. Darci Lynne, any of her performances. She is a ventriloquist/singer, ranging from American ballads to Italian opera. Just thought you might be interested. Btw, your breakdowns and reactions are the epitome of "feeling the music"
My cousin turned me onto Arch Enemy back in 2003 with the song We Will Rise. I've been a fan ever since, I believe it was either '03 or '04 when I got to see them open for Slayer at Harpos in Detroit 🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘
That's really just an opinion though. They're both great songs, quite different, but I wouldn't say either one is far superior as far as technicality goes.
As others have said: you really should check out her work with The Agonist, which is where she not only growls but shines with her clean vocals as well! (The entire Prisoners album is awesome.)
I would love to see a breakdown of fleshgod apocalypse song epilogue some fantastic operatic vocals mixed in with harsh and balanced with some fantastic instruments.
I love the videos! I know how much you like Orchestra. Now one of my favorite metal bands made a song with an Orchestra. I'd love to see your reaction to this song. It's Animals by Architects Orchestra version recorded at Abby Road.
The song God Went North by Nothing More is an emotional masterpiece of rock music with amazing vocal range. I would love to hear your take on Nothing More's unique vocal techniques!!
So great, looking very much forward to the upcoming album next week! ... Also a good conversation you had with Alissa, @The Charismatic Voice =) Got to watch at least an hour or so, grateful for that. Please do react to Lord of The Lost "Six Feet Underground" ... And Dark Tranquility "Forward Momentum"
Can you please do a reaction to a Lions at the Gate song called Find My Way? It features Tatiana Shmayluk from Jinjer as guest singer doing both beautiful & harsh vocals & their lead singer is Cristian Machado from Ill Niño! 🤘
I would like to suggest various songs of Fernando Ribeiro, the lead singer of *Moonspell.* For exemple "Angelizer", "Opium", "The Hermit Saints", "Alma Mater", "Axis Mundi", "Breathe"... They have been singing since the 1990 and have a really wide range of vocal styles. And there is a "warmth" in his voice (when he is doing clear singing at least ) that I think is interesting.
Thats a much better pick, and this song goes very well with her harsh vocals. Thanx for this one I really like her undertone with her harsh vocals and that they are so clear pronounced. And did I mention, I would love a review on Skunk anansie or Nina Hagen 😀
1. Otep, Nu-metal, Otep Shamaya screams as if she is a possessed, sings and raps. 2. Sunk Anansie, Alternative rock/metal, Skin sings clean, can hit the harsh vocals, raps and shared the stage with Pavarotti.
I think I've just realized something obvious about why I really like Alissa's vocals vs Angela's (props to the legend due though). She reminds me of other death vocalists out of the Quebec death metal scene in style and diction. It was that note about "learned" that you made at the beginning that made me catch it. Tastes of Neuraxis, Augury, maybe even Cryptopsy. There was a sound that came out of Quebec death metal in the 2000s that (obviously) seems to have influenced how she sings and it just hits me right.
Great video! - I know you are totally flooded with requests, but given how much you enjoyed nightwish and Tarja, I highly recommend you check out "Scardust". They are a very unique Israeli based metal band that often uses a choir in their songs and even do live performances with Tarja from time to time. The lead Singer Noa Gruman is a classically trained singer as well as a choir instructor and does some very interesting things with the vocals in her songs. I think this would be right up your alley. Keep up the great content!
In a similar vein of female metal singers, Would love to hear your analysis of some of the late Jill Janus from Huntress songs, particularly Eight of swords or Snow Witch. Love the insight you give to music too!
14:38 IDK how much music theory you know but I immediately recognized that progression at 14:12 by ear as a diminished 7th arpeggio... and since Arch Enemy tunes to C standard, I (correctly; confirmed with Ultimate Guitar) guessed that we're talking about Cdim7: C, Eb, Gb, A ... except really, with these intervals, any of them could be the root because they're always a minor 3rd apart. Quite common in metal; Michael Amott often uses this pattern in solos. It lends a rather evil character to runs, which is why it's used. Also, instead of staying in the same key, you could pivot out of the arpeggio into the key a tritone away, or to the relative major or minor mode if you wanted to (and the rest of the band was on board). Highly versatile. The song bounces around in tonality, starting in F minor and going to C phrygian for the verse, and it kind of alternates between the two.
You should do a vocal analysis of Adam Gauthier the original singer of The Days Grace, now the singer for Saint Asonia!! I've been looking everywhere for a vocal analysis for him but can't find one anywhere! You should totally do this! :)
We just released merchandise! Check out the full line-up here: thecharismaticmerch.com

I highly recommend listening to the song "Blackbriar - The Séance (Acoustic) [Live]"
Please do a reaction on Paul Stanley "I Still Love You" from KISS MTV Unplugged. It's amazing and really shows what a great singer/songwriter he was.
I am really enjoying your selections .
Check out "The Warning", you will fall in love with this 3 sisters from Mexico!
You can start with their live session of the song "Choke" from their last album: ruclips.net/video/dxyRnm-G2PQ/видео.html
Then there is a little surprise for you, song "Dust to dust": ruclips.net/video/TeIbG8nkOiU/видео.html
Also recommend one of my favorite "Ugh": ruclips.net/video/aHUz9dR3gwg/видео.html
You won't regret!
The double vowel sound on the "learned" is because you have to maintain an "o" shape to get the more guttural growls. The wider your mouth becomes, the growl becomes a scream.
Handshake with Hell next please! I would love to hear your thoughts on her cleans, too.
I realize this would be better around the end of December, but Small Town Titans cover of You're A Mean One Mr Grinch could be a fun analysis.
Love your channel, and love watching someone enjoy music so thoroughly! Keep on with your bad self.
Thanks for being awesome.
Need to react to an Oceans of Slumber song
Any and all of the latest singles are incredible
Who else would like to see a reaction to Pete Loeffler (Chevelle)? I think Elizabeth would love his vocal range and unique sound.
I had my hair that blue for 4 years and to keep it looking good and not washed out, I'd have to dye it every 2 weeks and spend a whole day with the dye on my head under a shower cap so the colour really stained the hair. Just thought I'd share as you were wondering how often to dye it.
Rolo Tomassi - Drip. NEXT PLEAAAASE 🔥 You'e amazing and have an awesome channel. Greetings from Chile 💖
Especially in "The Tempest" song.
This is the best song they've done in a long time.
You pointed out 🙂 something about her vocals: even if the vocals are harsh, her technique makes the lyrics understandable. That's impressive.
Alissa is gorgeous and very talented. she's really got great voice
I remember the 1st time I got introduced to arch enemy I was like damn that voice then my reaction when I saw she's a female... hahahaha I still can feel the shock
As people already said, do Handshake with hell just for her range, love your videos, keep it up =D
Hi! Huge fan! I have an odd recommendation for you. Darci Lynne, any of her performances. She is a ventriloquist/singer, ranging from American ballads to Italian opera. Just thought you might be interested. Btw, your breakdowns and reactions are the epitome of "feeling the music"
Unrelated to the video, congrats on 1mil subs!
Thank you! ❤
Please react to "Handshake With Hell"! Though I love this song, that one really shows more of her vocal range.
Great reaction to watch...as usual.
My cousin turned me onto Arch Enemy back in 2003 with the song We Will Rise. I've been a fan ever since, I believe it was either '03 or '04 when I got to see them open for Slayer at Harpos in Detroit 🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘
Deep and technical that's handshake with Hell. This song can't compete
"The next Wonder Woman" - Absolutely !!!
I so badly want to see you take about Novo Amor he has such a beautiful voice specially a song called Pteryla.
Enjoyable song.
I always will wonder how this songbwould be with regular vocals instead of harsh vocals.
Ahhhh!!!!!! This will be epic!
Indeed! ❤
Thats a much better pick, and this song goes very well with her harsh vocals. Thanx for this one I really like her undertone with her harsh vocals and that they are so clear pronounced. And did I mention, I would love a review on Skunk anansie or Nina Hagen 😀
Would love for you to check out "Thank you Pain" from her old band The Agonist! Great vocals and music on that track.
She sounds nothing at all like any of those bands.
Elizabeth, are you planning to do a vocal analysis of any Venom Prison songs?
Congrats! 🍾 1000000 🥂
Great new stuff
Woods of Ypress - I Was Buried In Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Oh! Susanna - Masterpiece
This is pure fucking awesomeness 👌I can't wait for u to check out (in the eye of the storm.
You know, I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen any Avenged Sevenfold yet... Afterlife would be a great start to hear The Rev's vocals.
In a similar vein of female metal singers, Would love to hear your analysis of some of the late Jill Janus from Huntress songs, particularly Eight of swords or Snow Witch. Love the insight you give to music too!
Your videos are awesome! Please record a review about the band Ghost!!!
You gotta check out Dios live performance of Catch The Rainbow in Munich 1977. It's absolutely beautiful and itll bring any fan of his to tears!!!
Let's all post and vote for "Handshake with Hell" ... more comments and upvotes for that track! 🤘
Now were on arch enemy and harsh vocals. I really like amaranthe & angela gossow - do or die. Those harsh vocals are really good imo.
