    A carb is a delicate thing. If it´s not perfect, the engine will never run quite right. The thing is, you usually don´t notice that until you have the comparison in engine performance between a perfect carb and a not quite perfect carb.

    Hey Kav, sorry if someone asked you this already. I found a post you had made on PelicanParts and saw that you had been dealing with wiring on your car at some point. I see that the 1969 911T is specific to that year only and a lot of other people are having difficulty tracking down a diagram that isn't the SL33 diagram for the 911S,E. I believe like you, that my car has had someone just randomly place wires over the years. It would be great to track down a schematic. Have you had any luck locating one or can you point me in the right direction? I know Sierra Madre says they have a specific one for the 1969T, but i'm not certain if its just the SL33 or not. Any info you have would be great! Thanks

    Whilst you have them that torn apart, you´d be as well doing your butterfly shaft too, bunch of roller bearings & seals in there that are so old they are not worth not replacing, don´t want any air leaks cocking up your fuelling after such a fine rebuild :)

    • @kavs911
      @kavs911  4 года назад

      I hear you but unfortunately that shaft work on these triple barrels is very expensive. I'd rather roll the dice first as they may be fine.

    • @rodgraff1782
      @rodgraff1782 4 года назад +1

      There is no roller bearings on the triple Weber’s. The throttle shaft has a thin nylon bush on the leaver end, but other than that, the shaft runs directly in the bores. I’m sure, from the looks and mileage on these that they are leaking air in around the shafts.

    • @Farlig69
      @Farlig69 4 года назад

      @@kavs911 How´s it expensive if you do the work? Must say I´ve not done an IDA but done plenty DCOE´s and it´s not hard, the nastiest bit is grinding away the splayed screws to remove them from the butterflies. Now, if you find that you have leaks after your full rebuild it´s another full rebuild to clean out all the grinding dust...

    • @Farlig69
      @Farlig69 4 года назад

      @@rodgraff1782 even easier to fix then :) Must go google the IDA´s - it´s been a couple of decades since I played with DCOE´s and I´m getting nostalgic!

  • @Cevan42

    My only advice is make sure you have no vacuum leaks in the main shaft. I've had carbs were the bushings wear and create vacuum leaks.

    • @kavs911
      @kavs911  4 года назад

      Yes Thank you Cevan I will look out for that.

    • @rodgraff1782
      @rodgraff1782 4 года назад

      The shafts themselves actually wear out due to the intake pulsation. The shafts and throttle plates are constantly being pounded back and forth at idle, and this wear things out in short order. It’s not just a matter of replacing the nylon bush. New oversized throttle shafts need to be installed and the bores in the carburetor body are reamed to fit. Then everything is then calibrated on a flow bench to make sure all bores flow evenly. If you have worn bores you will have spitting and coughing at idle up through the air horns due to lean mixture. This will vary with ambient temperature.

    have you thought of doing injection?
    they make weber style throttle bodies now even with 2 injectors!! nice for multistage fuel feeds for hungry engines..
    use one injector for idle and then fuel more with high speed or boost on the turbo engines.
    jus a tip from an old school tuner that uses modern tech these days!!
    webers are nice... if you run the car as a daily driver...
    if it is for a race day only or nice day type of car... the injection works better..
    better fueling..
    and gets rid of the issues with stored fuel in the carbs...

    Appreciate the content you're sharing. Have another question. On the back side of the carb there are seemingly two ports for the center carb jets. Wondering if these are plugged as I didn't see you remove anything for the extra hole to be there. Also wondering if the left and right bank are mirrored where maybe the left bank has the right side of the center carb plugged and the carb block for the right side has the left side plugged. Seemed weird to have what looked like cast ports that went no where.

    • @kavs911
      @kavs911  4 года назад +1

      Thanks! I'm not sure I follow Daniel. There are three main jets on the back of the each carb and yes they are the same casting just the shafts and top plate are oriented for left and right.

      @@kavs911 on the back as you view the three jets there are four holes. 3 have jets and the third was empty. There is also a hole higher up on the backside which looks like it has been plumbed in the forge. Just wondering if those holes do anything and just weren't mentioned or maybe they're plugged and do nothing.

    Again i can't imagine the nightmare of adjusting those carburetors. Even when the Webers are the best carburetors for sport cars, they are a little hard to adjust. My dad had a Fiat 131 with a Twin cam and twin Webers, adjusting both was time expensive.

    Those air correction needles are not where the air comes in to the carburetor. The air comes through the throttle plates. The air correction adjusters are for fine tuning and balancing the throttle plates at idle. We test this using a manometer, which is the most accurate way. You are going way to big on the chokes. Your going to loose velocity, and your not going to transition well, and have an off idle stumble. You still still have the small T ports in the head, so going beyond 30 serves no purpose. Stick with 30mm. For a 2 literT. The carbs were actually derated for the T, so there would be a bigger horsepower difference from the E. They made a power kit to upgrade the carb performance for the and 30mm chokes were a part of it. I’ve been though all of this with my1969T. Be sure to re curve your distributor for the E cams. Our car is running a 2.7 short stroke engine now, and the proper size chokes, or centuries as you call them are 34 for that setup, due to the larger displacement, and larger ports in the heads.

    • @kavs911
      @kavs911  4 года назад

      Yes understood about the air correctors. Yes I am eventually going with 30mm chokes.
