Star Swirl the Bearded is the father of the amniomorphic spell. "Amnio" means bowl, thus "amniomorphic" means shaping a bowl. A bearded wizard that shapes bowls. A "hairy potter," as it were.
I don't think Applejack was scared by Luna, I think she was more startled, no amount of common sense prepares you for seeing a horse twice your size be right behind you
If you fail to make things right at the end, all you end up doing is destroying your character! Whether it’s a one time character like “Bendy” from Foster’s, a supporting character like “Jimmy” from Ed Edd n Eddy, or even a main character like SpongeBob! In fact, this episode is the biggest reason why people put pinkie pie as one of their all time least favorite characters!
Luna does have a pretty good reason to still speak in far outdated etiquette. If you were trapped in the moon for 1000 years you'd fall a little out of touch with society as well.
I like this episode, mostly because I love Princess Luna, but one thing has annoyed the crap out of me about this episode, and I had hoped Mr. E would address it but he didn't, so here it is: Why did Celestia not show up to the festival with her sister? Even if she was busy and didn't have a lot of time, if she had arrived with her sister and just spent fifteen minutes or so at the festival with her, the ponies would have seen via Celestia's calmness that Princess Luna did not need to be feared and Luna wouldn't have gone through all this torment. I wouldn't mind if they had just given us a reason why Celestia didn't come with her sister. Did she have an emergency to attend to in another town? Did she maybe catch a cold and wasn't feeling well? Without having a reason it just makes Celestia look like a bitch.
Yeah, Pinkie is really annoying here. I mean, I can kinda get it. Luna's been back for a while now, has had a chance to rule again and to monitor the country, so perhaps Pinkie just thought Luna knew what Nightmare Night was all about and knew to play along. But after the third or fourth time she saw Luna being uncomfortable with the prank and actually believing Pinkie was afraid of her and causing others to fear her, she should have stopped, took Luna aside, and told her what was happening. That way she could have apologized to her, and then she, Luna, and Twilight could have came up with the idea for Luna to pull the Nightmare Moon illusion. I did love Luna pranking Rainbow at the end. And also...Shadowbolts! MAKE IT REAL!
But Pinkie’s acts made the viewers so infuriated by doing so! If the writers fail to make things right in the end, all they end up doing is destroying their character! Whether it’s a one-time character like Bendy (Fosters home for imaginary friends), a supporting character like Jimmy (Ed Edd n Eddy), or even a main character like SpongeBob!
@@excitablepack7076 I didn't say I liked it. I said it was annoying. Also...thank you for the reply but how did you even find this comment after 8 years?!
I thought it was implied Nightmare Night isn't really a thing in Trottingham, not that Pipsqueak was one year old. Then again with Twilight asking him wether or not it's his first after moving to Ponyville and her being rather knowledgeable, it could go either way.
Ah yes, an episode I always enjoy revisiting for Luna's character at her best, everybody having fun, some good humor, and a lighthearted ending- Is completely ruined by Pinkie. This is one of my favorite episodes if Season 2 being that Luna is in of my favorite Princesses in the show and man do I feel sorry for her in this episode. I can imagine how hurtful it must've felt for Luna to see everypony fearing her because of her past actions and Pinkie didn't help. She wasn't very annoying in this episode more than usual.
Anyone else curious as to why Rarity wasn't in this episode? It's a holiday that focuses on elaborate costumes, doesn't that seem like something she'd be into?
What always bugged me is that they never explained Luna's change in appearance. She's clearly not the same little pony we saw from episode 2, but everypony recognizes her as Luna. You could make explanations as to why she looks different, but the point is that the SHOW never explains it - which is should.
+jeramahia123 Im guessing the same reason that people barely recognize Twilight as a winged unicorn or a princess. It serves the plot while not drawing too much attention to the design change. and before you say it, i know what winged unicorns are called in the show, but Hasbro made that word up, and it's going to be a cold day in the first circle of Hell when i start humoring Hasbro.

I like this episode. I like the characterization of Luna, I like the fact that they explain this show's version of Halloween, I enjoy the episode in general. The only problem I had with the episode is that I thought Pinkie at times can be a bit much in the episode and wasn't that funny and felt more obnoxious. But otherwise, an overall good episode and a really good Halloween-Type episode. How does this compare to Scare Master? I enjoy that more mostly because Fluttershy is my fav and I liked everything involving her, but I thought Rainbow was a bit much in that episode and I thought at times it dragged, so I think this is the better episode, but I enjoy Scare Master a bit more. 4 Out Of 5 Stars Silver So Far: 19/130
Luna Eclipsed and A Friend In Deed are the worst episodes for Pinky, because she's so uncharacteristically aggressive in her assery. She almost ruined two people's lives in them.
I really don't like this episode; Pinkie was probably at her worst here. Yeah, sometimes it's fun to be scared, but it's NOT fun when one pony isn't in on the fun, and it's ESPECIALLY not fun when that pony is trying to fit in and you keep ruining it for her! I also found the ending confusing. Luna's been scaring the ponies the whole night, but now that she's scaring them on purpose that... somehow makes everything okay? It wasn't really explained well enough. Also, I hated the scene with Fluttershy because a.) she should know that she defeated Nightmare Moon and b.) I don't like seeing Fluttershy scared for the sake of comedy, it's like you seeing otherwise good/nice characters being tormented for no reason other then we're supposed to laugh at their misery. ...Though I do like Luna in this episode. That's about all I like in the episode, actually. Oh, and Derpy.
There was a deleted scene where luna and twilight went to rarity's and rarity made a pink dress for luna and pinkie comes to rarity home and said luna ate a princess everypony run
if only they told Luna a heads up that Nightmare Night is only for fun and the idea was inspired by her evil self. just tell her at the start and this way here there's no miss understanding. but sense she only have half of the details. is understandable there's a miss understanding and why she feels insulted when they call her nightmare moon. also not everyone knew about her and some forget about her. so there's also that. and yes is one of those EPs that Pinkie is just there to piss everyone off or make things worse for those that are TRYING to get through there issues. but at lest it's not the worst she did this. because in this EP she at lest acknowledges Luna's normal. and yes I agree she could at lest apologize for upsetting Luna to make up the rest of the EP. because in this case she actually didn't know she was upsetting her because she was to busy running around. the other EP I'm talking about is when she keeps making Fluttershy cry and freaking her out some odd. and reason she didn't know she was actually doing that to her and on top of all that she didn't apologize. now that everyone wont slide. but with Luna's case with Pinkie we let slide because back than the writing was better. and there's one detail you were off context with. because you were to busy being pissed. Luna scared the ponies at the end of the EP because it was Twilight's idea and thank god Pinkie didn't make everyone run off. because if she was there. than I guess the EP would just have an bad ending. because she wont get to hear that no one's scared of her in a bad way and would've run back home crying. knowing in her head that no one still doesn't like her. lets no forget that she once thought no one cared about her because everyone sleeps at night. but there's a thought that run in my head from the past "there were no night ponies as in those that don't sleep at night time? really?" because in real life we have night people like myself that hardly sleep at night and sleep through almost the whole day. reason why I say almost because the day time lasts longer.
Okay, I love this episode, but there are two things I do not get: First, wouldn't Rainbow be the only one besides the audience (and maybe her friends) to actually get her costume? I mean, she was the only one to see them up close and to hear that they were called the Shadowbolts. The most her friends could know was that RD is dressed as "one of the scary ponies from the forest". Second, NOBODY considers that the royal guards may be dressed up for Nightmare Night. Seriously. They're never seen again and there is no evidence against this theory yet (keep in mind that Season 5 has not yet begun as I write this, and well, Celestia knows where the writers will take this show).
Pinkie's behavior in this episode is how I expected her to be at all times when I first started watching. Thankfully that's not the case most of the time.
Her guards are probably used to it. Most everypony would be asleep while she is up ruling the night, so social interaction is damn near 0. Interaction with Celestia need not require the Royal Canterlot Voice, because Celestia is not a subject of the kingdom, but instead an equal, and a sibling. So really, there is no pony to tell her "We don't do that anymore."
Hmm, I always thought the reason AJ got scared was because seeing Luna was more of a jump scare. No pun intended. I mean look at her, she turns around and freaks. She was expecting to see someone her size and instead sees a tall intimidating figure and shields herself. That was my interpretation anyway
In addition to al the other criticism's Mr. Enter pointed out. (Someone-preferably her sister teaching Luna how to behave in this century, Pinkie never apologizing for a mean-spirited, running prank on the same person (even if it was unintentional, she should've realized it was going too far.), and everyone forgetting Luna was good now (remember that scene in Friendship is Magic Part 2, when the pegasi gave her a wreath of flowers? apparently the writers didn't). I want to point out that they already learned the "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover" moral and extend friendship to others in the episode with Zecora (Bridle Gossip), evidenced by the fact that she is at the festival....... I love this episode and yet I hate it......
Actually, I don't think the bat ponies have a canon name yet. Thestral is just what a lot of fans seem to call them (even though Thestrals are the draconic winged horses from Harry Potter, and thus a name that Hasbro would not be able to use.) I call them Nocturns. At least I am in a fan fic because referring to them as 'bat ponies' all the time gets boring, and it would be like referring to Unicorns as 'horned ponies' all the time.
3:58 can someone watch the twilight part of the cutie mark chronicles episode and tell me if this egg pinkie just laid is the same one twilight hatched which would be spikes
I was a little disappointed that Rarity wasn't in this episode. I know it's a real nitpick and she probably wasn't necessary to the plot. and yeah I'm probably saying thing because Rarity is my favorite of The Mane 6. But you know she makes clothes, she could have designed her own costume for Nightmare Night and maybe just made like a ten second cameo.
(please forgive my late reply) According to Lauren Faust herself, Rarity _did_ originally make an appearance, doing exactly that. The scene was cut for time.
Adding to Soulfirere's comment, she was actually going to help improve Luna's public image by giving her a new (pink) look to make her look a little less imposing......but yes, it was cut for time.
It was kinda odd to give Luna a major role in the first two episodes and then not even show up till season 2. She could have at least been backdrop during Discord's arc
i finally got to watching the full episode but i have just a few questions. one is why does princess luna talk as if she is 2 pony? second is why in the first place, the nightmare night not suppose to be scary, halloween is about scaring people. and lastly, she has been banished for a thousand years right, by the elements of harmony, wouldnt that make the main 6 also about a thousand years?
okay thanks for clearing the we thing. also im not saying the mane 6 got banished. i meant that the elements banished nightmare moon. what im insiuating is that princess luna is waaaaaaaay old. like a caveman.
You mean the amniomorphic spell? It's all explained here: www.fimfiction.net/blog/398259/starswirls-amniomorphic-spell-decrypted tl;dr Amnio - bowl, morphic - shaping, so it's a spell that shapes bowls. A person who makes bowls is called a potter. Starswirl is known for his bowlmaking spell and his great beard. Starswirl is a Hairy Potter.
Milo Thatch Danny Phantom is considered a good from beginning to end series, no one really seems to know about Tuff Puppy but the people who do seem to like it, and the new FOP automatically suck because they added a few characters, and as we all know, that automatically means the show's of lower quality, regardless of what the characters are actually like.
My assumption on the spell is that it's a reference to the fact that the characters are anthropomorphic (animals with various human-like qualities). That's just my take on it, because no one really knows what that means.
huh...I've know about this guy for a while, but I didn't know he did these reviews, heck I assume he's not even a brony and he just reviews the show for other reasons

4:02 pause and enjoy.
Is it me or did anybody else see a pony that looked like they were dressed up as dovakhin
3:58 can someone watch the twilight part of the cutie mark chronicles episode and tell me if this egg pinkie just laid is the same one twilight hatched which would be spikes
"he who must not be named?"
What are the other two holiday episodes i think there a hearths warming tale and hearts and hooves day but i cant tell
Can you please tell me what the two other holiday specials are?
at 5:54 you gave it a gold, even though at 5:46 you said you give it silver
+mugg1991 Never noticed.
(please forgive my late reply)
According to Lauren Faust herself, Rarity _did_ originally make an appearance, doing exactly that. The scene was cut for time.
Adding to Soulfirere's comment, she was actually going to help improve Luna's public image by giving her a new (pink) look to make her look a little less imposing......but yes, it was cut for time.
This is why... Pinkie Pie pisses me off...
It was kinda odd to give Luna a major role in the first two episodes and then not even show up till season 2. She could have at least been backdrop during Discord's arc
is he who must not be named Biter?
I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed at pinkie getting off scot free and rainbow is the one that gets punished.
Well rainbow was stomping lightning towards other ponies and could've hurt them real badly . But yeah pinkie deserves punishment as well
2:26 She couldn't have used her magic?
i finally got to watching the full episode but i have just a few questions. one is why does princess luna talk as if she is 2 pony? second is why in the first place, the nightmare night not suppose to be scary, halloween is about scaring people. and lastly, she has been banished for a thousand years right, by the elements of harmony, wouldnt that make the main 6 also about a thousand years?
okay thanks for clearing the we thing. also im not saying the mane 6 got banished. i meant that the elements banished nightmare moon. what im insiuating is that princess luna is waaaaaaaay old. like a caveman.
oohhhhhhhhh. so thats what happens. thanks for that man. i wasnt into being a brony myself until about a year ago so i havent caught on.
Hearth's Warming Eve, and Hearts and Hooves Day
I love this episode as Halloween is one of my favorite Holidays
please explain the amu-watsit spell
0:03 somebody can explain that joke please?
You mean the amniomorphic spell? It's all explained here: www.fimfiction.net/blog/398259/starswirls-amniomorphic-spell-decrypted
tl;dr Amnio - bowl, morphic - shaping, so it's a spell that shapes bowls. A person who makes bowls is called a potter. Starswirl is known for his bowlmaking spell and his great beard. Starswirl is a Hairy Potter.
Watching this episode, I wished for Pinkie to get thrown into a brick wall.
Could you re-re-edit it? It looks like a mess of the same old shots over and over again.
"I'm definitely not giving it a gold"
Episode medal: gold
Care to elaborate?
probably just a typing error.
hold on for a pinke sec ;) look at luna's hair at 2:54 also is it stragne raity not in this epiodes and she doen't even have a commio
When you said he who should not be named, were you referring to Byter?
I thought he was referring to CR.
rushfan2596 That the guy on Thatguywiththeglasses.com?
Yes.
tiakpark Chad Rocco.
I never got the Amniomorphic spell thing
My assumption on the spell is that it's a reference to the fact that the characters are anthropomorphic (animals with various human-like qualities). That's just my take on it, because no one really knows what that means.
Amnio=Bowl
Morphic=Morph
He is a bearded wizard who shapes bowls, a Hairy Potter if you will.
I'm a Harry Potter fan, and that was a really bad pun. Chuggaaconroy can make better puns, and his are hilariously bad.
He made a cameo in the Nostalgia Critic's "Son of the Mask" review. That's all I can tell you.
oh my god the thestrals joke was hilarious im a harry potter nerd so literally lol
Mike Schimdt so am i it was really funny
i know right
was byter the guy that evilina was skyping with about this show
Wow...........Pip squeak is so frickin adorable
You said you gave it a silver, but in the credits you gave it a gold?
typing error
@Jon the Wizard I thought the same about Pinkie Pie at first, especially since this was the first episode of MLP I watched.
huh...I've know about this guy for a while, but I didn't know he did these reviews, heck I assume he's not even a brony and he just reviews the show for other reasons
Nope! Mr Enter is a brony! He just does different series though.
Fandom_Stuck yep
Wait, 3 holiday episodes?
Heartswarming Eve, Lunar Eclipsed and...?
hearts and hooves day.
and i know i'm a little late.
Thanks, I figured that out allready
3 holiday episodes? Half Life 3 confirmed.
And they are all in season 2, were was only 1 bad episode. 2+1=3
nieengel :o Half Life 3 Episode 2 confirmed
Why does Luna refer to herself as "Us"?
***** She speaks in what is know as the "The Royal We" were members of royalty refers to themselves in a plural.
I was not aware of that. I've heard the term tossed around before, but I didn't actually know what it meant.
*****
I'm not sure how it came about, may of had to do something with religion or something back in the 12th century. I do know it is also called the "majestic plural"
Thanks for the fun facts!
*****
Welcome :)
It's rated gold in the credits
I thought you needed a 5/5 to be a gold episode
He said it was a silver but then showed a gold ....i think he miss typed it or something
who is he who must not be named
+ThatRandomGuyFTW it was a joke on Luna who used to be Nightmare Moon... The big bad of the premier episode.
Voldemort ( I had too )
i don't think ive heard of anyone getting that joke and its hilarious. most people randomly assume it has something to do with shapechanging
That settles it; I'm making a Luna Plushie
Lunabot must of left CAPS LOCK ON
wait I don't get it amniomorphic?
it means to change form into differnent things
austin dodson I still don't get the relevence of it...:/
in a long round about way, it's a harry potter reference.
Thomas Jenkins oooh
Luna Plushie is done!!
if you really know your greek mythology then pinkie pie's costume should be a hippolectryon, a creature with the front end of a horse and the rear end of a rooster.
3:41 Pinkie has Ditzy's eyes.
Can someone help me, I dont understand the spell joke?
+Andrew Coffman www.dictionary.com/browse/amnion

n.
1660s, Modern Latin, from Greek amnion "membrane around a fetus," said to be originally "bowl in which the blood of victims was caught" [Liddell & Scott], which is variously said to be of unknown origin, from ame "bucket," or a diminutive of amnos "lamb."
Bowls are a type of pottery, so a bearded wizard who makes pottery would be a...?
CR? Ooh...Yeah, don't mention him.
wow. it's amazing how merciful i was toward pinkie compared to you. if you're curious, check out my Luna Eclipsed review on deviantart and you'll see what i mean
I think I'd be even less merciful. I hated Pinkie for the whole season because of this episode.
Dat ending error doe...
Ya pinkie pie really is annoying here. But beside that its one of my favorite episodes.
Pinkie isn't just any chicken she is chicken little
chicken pinkie love it
1:26 toilet
OMFG, PINKIE RAGE!!!!
Luna and Celestia look more like a horse than the others.
Luna's gaurds ponies are to beefy to be threstrals
I don't like Pinkie in this episode. I think that both her and Twilight should have been slapped.
where in the fuck did the egg cone from?
Pinkie's butt, I guess
What's wrong about CR? He's the reason I'm a Brony!
*Thestrals.
Who is he who should not be named. I feel like total idiot.
