You have to have commercial insurance. If you have personal auto insurance, and you wreck while running a courier route, your insurance company will deny your claim, because its considered commercial use
Do not put a company's name on your personal vehicle. Because you have personal insurance and not business insurance. If you get into an accident they will not cover you. The moment you put a name on your vehicle it's business
Ive been a truck driver for 8 years switched to garbage trucks now i wanna get into the courier business. Your videos are really supportive. Thanks big bro.
My brothers are going into the business of hauling double and single homes to florida and making 2 to 3,000 a day , you will need a 250 desiel flat bed truck .
I’m looking at a Nissan NV 2500, what you think about that van? I’m selling my BMW to start this business so I’m gonna have about $30,000 to play with. But I want to have some left over.
This is exactly what I’m going through right now. I got quoted for commercial insurance for my Mercedes sprinter van for $5k down. The only option that I have is to use my personal insurance until I can get money up for commercial
But how will you get loads from companies with having only your personal insurance? And how do you obtain your usdot and authority number with out commercial Insurance?
i have promaster 2500 highroof and i pay 90$ a month but it aint commerical i mean aint nobody gonna care about whether you have personal or commercial, all they care is just having insurance just do more research on cheaper insurance company

Just stumble on this vehicle, great video. How much insurance is needed to run cargo vans over the road for general freight? I got 3 drivers, so I need the commerical insurance. Other than progressive, did you find another insurance outside progressive?
Did you ever figure out how much insurance is needed? I’m also getting into the cargo van game and after applying for my usdot and mc number it’s saying I’m required to have 300k of commercial insurance but when I call these insurance agencies they keep trying to say 1 million or that I won’t be able to get loads with out it being 1 million. Anyone can help me understand what I really need. The rate from 300k to 1million is absolutely crazy
Bra I’m in the process at this very minute. The broker as of today talking about he trying to get me progressive commercial. I told him my Van isn’t 10k pounds and he say it doesn’t matter because if something happens while your working they won’t cover it. I think it’s his job to get me the highest insurance at this point. After watching this and talking to my contractor I’m just goin to keep it under regular auto and get general liability. I use it for personal vehicle too so it is what it is🤷🏽♂️
These Insurance companies are screwing the small haulers. Example: I have insurance policy for my 2016 Chevy Equinox w/great coverage. If I haul ANOTHER PERSONS boat 300 miles and charge a fee, then now I’m Commercial and they will want $1,200 A MONTH. Same liability for the Insurance co. ($1,200 A YEAR. VS. $1,200 A WEEK)
I'm new with this and maybe be owner operator of a sprinter otr. Now, I'm confused, if im going otr do I need commercial insurance or not? You said if its under 10,000lbs I dont need it?

Yes you should. In my case, I’m not required to have DOT/MC due to the size of my van and I don’t driver interstate. I was contracted through a third party logistics company and they didn’t require me to have commercial insurance. I was using my van as my personal vehicle also, so they let me slide with using only my personal auto insurance.
