That was my car! #024. We bought it new from Glendons in Nowra in 1992. It had a few trips round Oran Park and left some rubber lol. Also went up Black Mountain at a good clip. It was a brilliant hill climber - stick it in 2nd and just go for it. Sold it at about 40K to buy a 4wd. Nowra HiFi did the stereo modification including the huge rear speakers. I'm amazed at the way the interior has survived the years honestly. The seats were very very good. Only bad thing I have to say is that it was terrifying in the wet - used to squirm over water a lot.
It comes down to what tyre's used good year F1 on the wet roads awesome grip for v8 v6 no trouble at all doing top speed
that's so cool!
Should come and check out my 92 VP senator it’s factory manual one of 18 built out of the production run of 200
David Hill wow sounds nice would love to see a manual 😄 don’t suppose your in Perth?😅
Ross Reviews sorry mate NSW
Ross Reviews thought that was perth looks like u up in the hills
The 304 holden motors do sound really good....there was a guy that used to get around my town with a VS ute with 355 stroker, big cam and the Group A twin throttle bodies that sounded insane
would love to give one of them a go
To be honest, I'm unsure how I came across this channel but I loving the way you have taken to Aussie cars. Currently had a AU ford ute but can admit that I like holdens. A potential lost rivalry/legacy but with your videos, not to be forgotten. I like seeing these aussie vehicles appreciated by an adopted Aussie.Great video.
thanks m8! i have fallen hard for the aussie cars.. i used to be JDM threw and threw but now i lean towards the Fords and Holdens over the Nissans and Toyotas! ha i own a BA XR8 ute myself and absolutely LOVE it! i like holden and ford both have different styles but i like em all. hoping to get as many on the channel to keep em alive as possible.
Well spoken Ross. Good to see the Holden V8 range so on showcase for good education purposes so this icon brand is never forgotten. What an absolute beautiful piece of machinery. I'm a huge Holden car enthusiast. Just amazing to see. Well done brother 👍
thank you! yes i was just glad to put something out there on the internet with this amazing car.. not much info is out there
Great to see this video mate was nice to see some info on this car and hear that Aussie rumble 😃👍 hope it catches on in RUclips so more people can find out about these cars and others you have reviewed. Keep up with the videos im excited to see more like this 🤘👍
Liam Deering thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it... I hope so too!😅 I’m gona try my best to keep getting some classic Aus cars on here stay posted 👍
I always despised the VP Commodore but this gets an exception hahah
Shibe 😅🙌
Same haha 😂
Your channel is so underrated mate, as if only 2.65k subs! Just binge watched the F6, Typhoon, Senator signature vids and absolutely love it mate! The CV8 monaro after this one. Keep it up legend!
thank you m8! glad your enjoying the videos have been lucky enough to film some pretty cool stuff.. im sure the channel will grow more eventually 😅 more videos on the way!
You should look at doing a review for a VP international Calais - that is, if you can find one. My grandfather had one & it was magnificent.
finding them is always the challenge.. would love to tho
As the other half of the first owner... Whilst we had the car the front suspension top hats were changed to adjustable ones (K-Mac?) and the shock absorbers were swapped to Bilstein. The new top hats are evident in the engine bay shots. The aggressive seats were an HSV option (Devenish ?). Climate control was swapped to the VR version. The sound system was changed to Pioneer, with lots of speakers, and stacker in the boot. I'm probably to blame for the rear window louvre.
From the video, the metal pedals are a change from after our ownership, as also are the steering wheel and exhaust.
After us, the car moved to the ACT.
I'm really pleased to see the old girl is still on the road, and in such great condition.
Nice piece of Aussie history there!
If you ever get a chance I'd like to see you do a review on the Nissan Gti-R (Baby Zilla), not Aussie, but pretty iconic little beasts ;)
Cryptology thanks m8 I will do my best to track one down!
@@RossReviewsau I reckon you'd enjoy it, mate!
Cryptology oh ya I love my hot hatches! Got a RS MK2 coming up was so much fun to drive
Wow haven’t seen this video.
Cool sounds of the exhaust.
Keep up with your passion for making car reviews
thanks mate! a few gems are hidden in the older reviews
I’m a ford man! But I have a soft spot for HSV 👌🏻
I'm a holden but have one for fpv
Same I'm a Ford man but I do love the old hsv cars I would be proud to own a older hsv 👍
I gotta say your Holden Commodores are Awesome
they are so cool
I love these older hsv cars and this was a good review vid
thank you!
If you take the headrest off the front seats and move them all the way forward and recline the seat all the way back... you can sleep full outstretched with your head on the back seat! Sobered up back in the day... saved my life Haha
HAHA thats gold mate.. life hack
Great Video on the mighty VP GTS. Great to see it getting some internet fame time being the first of the GTS's since the Monaro's.
Thank you very much!
I miss my 92 VP Commodore S.
Same here man, some basted stole mine from the front of my house. Mine was just a executive but i still loved it
Great vid Bud
thanks mate
Hard af ❤HOLDENS
I saw a standard VP executive V6 manual once being driven by a P plater who obviously bought it off someone who took care of it. I don't hold much hope it's on the roads today (this was about 20 years ago).
Maybe you would enjoy a drive of that almost as much as the HSV auto.
haha ya not sure if that will last being driven by a P plater lol who knows tho maybe he will be smart with it.. lets hope.
im keen to do more older aussie cars as of late.. just very difficult to find
Ross Reviews I've got a 92 Fairlane Ghia still on the road with the 5.0 V8. It's very bog standard though. Nothing sporty about it.
They did have a Fairlane Sportsman edition of my car with the Tickford enhanced 4.0 six. That's the one I wanted but settled for a regular V8 when a nice one came along.
manuals are better even the sound of the engine roaring in sync with the gears screaming
Got a VP s in the garage converted to a 5 litre v8 (same engine as the car in the vid)
killer man! they have such a good sound to them
The V8 in this GTS used engine parts left over from the VN group A Block so is a step up from the regular 5 litre.
HMM the HSV version of the 5.0 is a lot more modified..
I always liked these 5 litre hlodens , bought a cheap wagon and wasnt even going to keep it long but what a good car it was . Had no problems with it and it went great. Then i traded it on a Vz alloytec, what a mistake that was . By far the worst engine holden ever made . Now i have an SS ute ls1 , no problem at all. These old 5 litre hlodens were great cars would have another in a heart beat.
yes i would only go with there LS range or the 5 litre both amazing engines.. some of there 6cyl stuff idk 😣
I love it, I've learned more about the car since this has been up than I have in the Past 20 years. The EB and GTS were the first, yes they were flawed but gee the GTS is a great toring car. To learn a bit more about it is a privilage (I know it's not pefect). To the first owners you did a bloody good job and it has just clocked over 103000 km.
glad you learned something :) thats why i love to show off these classic Aussie cars as it gets people talking about them again and sharing info!
Is it your car now? I'd love to get in contact if it is.
VN had the brutal Group A..and the sv5000 along with many others
I came here looking for info on the VP based SV91. I remember taking photos of it at the Sydney Motor Show. Haven't seen many since.
Not many left
I love my FG XR6 & it’s Barra engine, but l miss my VR SS with its 185i HSV enhanced engine that l bought new back in 1994, l still reckon that old reliable injected 304 ci Holden V8 & the stroker version we’re bloody grouse donks, l may be an old bloke but l prefer the Holden made V8’s over the chev ones & this is totally my personal opinion.
i think you have a point tho! these are amazing cars.. n still got that old school feel n sound with there V8s :) hope to review more older models soon
One of the best cars i owned was a brand new 5.0 vs calais. It only had 21 kw more than the ecotec v6. But it had a lot more torque. 385 vrs 304. I liked how the accelerator was much more responsive than on the ls1 v8's
@@jetson2075 Great machines! Not a day goes by where I don't miss my 94 VR Calais, white over grey, tastefully modded with VR GTS wheels and a killer exhaust note after dropping the two rear mufflers and had the two cats piped into a large lukey centre muffler. Stupidly sold it for $6700 in 2005, it was in top condition.
Hi mate pedals are an accessory pedal not factory for that car. They where not even available when that car was new they were released later on
ok cheers for that.. thanks was tough to find credible info on this car.. hope you still enjoyed the review
The reason the VP GTS only came out in auto is that the manual gearbox that was used by Holden did not meet durability requirements for the power and torque the GTS engine made.
ah true.. interesting
Lovely car.
old school
Thing sound nice on the revs
What? Love the car bro 😎
Me too!
could please do a review on a holden vn commodore even a hsv vn ss group A or a hdt vn aero
What're you talking about even? The VN series before this had many HSV models...The VL had the walkinshaw....The VP introduced the GTS though..
Hey Ross! .... I think of this very model every time I get behind the wheel of my daily drive : an old fart 2008 Omega Executive with an L2Y 3.6 Alloytec that produces 195Kw. That's pretty good, considering the 5.0 slug is good for 200Kw. BTW Mate .... the 5.0 isn't a big block. I think you were speaking figuratively, but be careful, as there is always some smart-arse bastard who will pick you up ( who? .... me? ).
Tony Buhagiar 😅 your right that’s my bad I’m not the best with older car facts but I’ll be sure to try n not mess up again.. I’m glad you guys point these out tho makes for a better video next time 🙌👍
Omega never came out with a 195kw v6. Only sv6 or calias had that output.
My dad has a 2007 model HSV GTS
nice one!
i've always liked the look of the VPSS over the VNSS
yea i said it, fkn fite me
each to their own brother!
This is a HSV GTS NOT a standard SS
Look over a Sydney oparhouse special edition vn commodore
would love to m8! lets hope i get the chance to review one
VR GTS was much better
Makes you wonder what hsv were thinking not releasing these in manual
scotty and ryder I know 🤦♂️ would have made it perfect but I guess back then auto was cool and luxurious so... 🤷♂️
Holden/hsv just make some strange choices i think. Gts is meant to the pinnacle of performance for them. Oh well u still got to drive it n its a cool video. That car would be worth a few bucks now
@@trikdoutvl ya the guys askin 60,000 Grand
The reason this had an auto gear box was at the time the only trans that was manual that could handle the tourqe relibably was the six speed box from the vn ss group a which was mentioned in this video. That was actually a corvette gear box and hsv couldn't source more for this car unfortunately. The 6 speed box was first brought out in the vr gts in 93.
They could of used the box from the vl group walkinshaw? That had similar power/torque to this. Al pretty sure the vn ss came out as a 5 speed manual
You need to review the iconic AU Falcon
Is this some strange new usage of the word "iconic" that I have hitherto been unaware of? Sure, review the TE50 : that would be something, but the rest of the range : sorry Lachlan, I was left dry, as were most of the Aussie public. Ford knew that they had to make amends with the BA, and they did. Maybe you were just at "that" age when the AU hit the roads, so it holds a special place for you?
Gross, without a doubt the ugliest Ford ever made!
Au ugly and head gasket heap of junk leave it to rest in the ground where it belongs😁
Lachlan Phillips I’ll see what I can find m8😅👍
@@RossReviewsau .... Careful Ross! .... ( See my comment above ). If you cannot find a TE50, then leave this model alone. You could do your reputation some serious damage. That is, unless, you bag the shit out of it : )
There was pilot one and pilot two before GTS both prototypes google probly don't even have that info lol if some of the early hsv guys are out there they would remember
Should of sold my ve clubsport to get this a while ago
This looks the same as a vauxhall Charlton gsi which we had in the UK
really ill have to look that car up.. would be interesting to see if it is..
The Carlton was faster and had a shit load better engine. These 5L's are rubbish compared to the Carlton.
Old mate mentioned Big blocks. This isn't a big block.
Red 33 next please😃
scotty and ryder hahah its coming!
Fantastic!
That thing be worth a mint !!
was in such good condition too!
I would never have changed the steering wheel. I would have just re trimmed the original if it was worn
true always best to keep original
I have a vp GTS also out of 130 or however many was made
very nice m8
Same here I've got #101
Which country did you live in, before you moved to Australia?
New Zealand for a couple years but born n raised Canadian
@@RossReviewsau Thanks Ross for the reply, I just wondered as a matter of interest.🤔
@@queenslandballistics2987 all good m8!
Can you review a HSV VE E3 Clubsport.
i did one on a GTS already.. look it up :)
@@RossReviewsau Thanks for the reply. Yes I know a Yellow one and a good show too but, no 0-100 Klms done in that car for some reason and a GTS??
Or could you do more older performance cars loved the VP GTS.
AU s3 xr8 or TS50 5speed only
Let's get it gamed I got a BA XR8 ute coming up soon
No not the entire world just Australia and New Zealand
Burning Oil Garage you are correct I could have said that better 😅
@@RossReviewsau yeah haha. Also you probably noticed that this is the best sounding V8 Holden ever had the 304 5000i with injection is too this day my favourite sounding Holden V8 it just has that classic car deep note that you don't get with the LS range due too their cylinder head design even though the 5l does seem lacking in paper it makes up for it by playing a very nice note.
Burning Oil Garage the sound was so good get that crackle after you lay off the throttle as well👌❤️ classic muscle car sound eh
@@RossReviewsau yeah, with straight pipes they still sound nice.
How much would that be worth now
No idea actually 🤷♂️
the first hsv was the VL
first GTS
Ross Reviews get your vibrator out of your arse , the guy is right sort of . the first HSV was in 1988 it was a holden Astra though HSV was founded in 1987 . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Special_Vehicles
funny a SV88 owner might have something about being first. Also Ford V Holden started in the 60's
ruclips.net/video/PE3hV-PKE9Y/видео.html
that's a fair point i realise they have been going for year n years before this car.. was more so to emphasise that this was the First GTS model the one we all want nowadays
HSV Wagons made 185
wth? someone put the steering wheel on the wrong side
straya m8
The car a bit rough tho.
Wasn’t to bad for the age
@@RossReviewsau Sweet thanks for the reply.
Hey mate this group A is not build number 1, because i’ve got it, please don’t advertise that you have got it
? Never said it was build #1
FALCON EBGT..not just an EB! jesus this is painful to watch, mate!
?
Shit box VP.
