Welcome to another Episode of Ross Reviews AU on this weeks Video we take out this 2008 Holden VE SS with a Holden Dealer Team (HDT) Group 3 Body kit fitted and modified to over 484RWHP with Full Exhaust, Big Lumpy Cam, CAI, & Tune! This V8 is a proper Aussie muscle car! we also visit the crash site of Peter Brock out on Obrien rd to pay respects as Peter Brock was essentially the founder and owner of the original HDT..

Yeah bro, I wanted that bodykit on my Caprice and turn it to a magnum but after spending ten g on motor my pockets ran dry. That's how a six litre should sound, sweet ride bro👍🇦🇺🍻

Great review Johnny! Excellent quality as always. Just a note - the VE's have TR6060 manual box, not T56. Keep up the incredible work.

The Holden VEs and the LS2 HSVs have the T56. TR6060 didn’t come in until LS3 in the HSVs and pretty sure the VF in the Holdens.

Tr6060 from 2008 onwards.
@@keno88 my 2009 ssv wagon has a tr6060. I know that because changing the clutch it had a dual mass flywheel
the VE really lends itself to that retro body kit, and OMG that thing sounds amazing. I really miss Aussie made cars, Holden and Fords

The body kit on this is the one to have with the mags you can't get sick of that design if I were to own a commodore this is the kit and mags to have bloody nice

There's one of these HDT cars in my area, they are all pretty loud, emulating the 80s sound of V8s before pollution and noise restraints were introduced, to hush them
There's one down here in Mandurah, I see around 6AM in the morning, either his isn't tuned like this one or he's useless at take-off's as my ID1000 and a tune only (270Kw) G6ET kicks the cr4p out of it.

Gotta love the HDT style. But i wonder why it's always the VE's?
Imagine how good this would look on a VZ with the angular sharpness it has more akin to the VK.

There's a vy ss done as a hdtmock, it looks dope.
HDT did a whole run of retro-inspired cars based on the VE, these were available brand new back in the day through Holden dealers.
I reckon it’s the VE because it looks a lot like the VC,VK commodores

The VE design has alot of the VK in it. The front is more square the wheel arches are pronounced, The VZ is more rounded to my eyes.

The only thing I do is change rear lights to hsv style lights, with that rear spoiler would look real nice

i found a ve calais v wagon with a hdt kit on it (body kit, rims and badge). did they ever make a wagon version of these or is it just a replica? if its fake, i dont care since 1, that thing looks kickass and 2, im in the us and just need the shell, and its cheap for what it is, so i can scratch that hsv itch i been having. hdt is the next best thing

Man, im a little biased as anything past a VL isnt a true hdt. My brother had an vh hdt, so carby 308, from memory stock they made 188kw, maybe less but around that. But yeah, if you can get your hands on a true hdt that would be a grass roots review.

great review of this rather unique v8 commodore, but honestly you have to be careful with nextride dealership, they are some dodgy people. I brought a fg xr8 off them before covid and they never mentioned the damage on the car and how bad the paint was, but also that they had never bothered to flush the brake and clutch system because it was nearly turning to water when I got the car, to top it off after a year they rang me to ask me if I would resell them the car. Buyers beware of Nextride
They probably supply Jono with cars and in return, he advertises it for sale... When buying a car, you must do your research and you should get a pre purchase inspection from a third party mechanic, as well as thoroughly inspecting it yourself because there are dodgy people everywhere!
@@MartinJones123 I agree with you there, but I did have a 3rd party mechanic do a full vehicle inspection for me and unfortunately I was able to make it over to perth as I live in VIc, so it was all over the phone, it was something I knew would be a risk, but even the 3rd party mechanic didn't let me know about the problems with the car.
@@Honeydew0567 Yeah... Buying a car from interstate is extremely risky and this 3rd party mechanic may not have properly looked at the car... Personally I'd buy locally or in the states surrounding me (NSW, SA, ACT)

@@vxsr33 I agree and I was willing to take the risk on it, but definitely never doing that again unless its done by someone like RACV or equivalent. it certainly has so I could very easily make a god turn around on it but I'm determined to make it look great again and have my fun with it. I was just dishearten by what everyone was telling me compared to what I had saw for myself, but I'm loving the car so much, no real intentions to get rid of it anytime soon

I think the body kit is something of an acquired taste but I kind of like some elements and other elements, like the rear spoiler look weird on a rounded car...

I have to do injectors and a few things in my l98 so thinking of changing the cam while I am at it.

@Mr VZ surely that's a typo and you mean .634 lift. Wouldn't think many off the shelf cams run as low as .534 lift

And in the end combined bad choices between buyers and manufacturers led to the doom of the car industry in Australia. Slow technology levels by makers and poor loyalty from buyers did the trick. So glad I grew up in the power age of carbied clunkers and single wheel burnouts ! Now stoke up the coal burner I'm turning on my aircon ! 😎👍
