That's it. This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. So, I aim to give you a feel for what life's like aboard for me and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply my story and the way I do things. Nothing more, nothing less.
I left Den Helder (up in the North of The Netherlands) via another route than the one I took to get there. This route would lead me via the Wadden sea, the large lakes, through capital Amsterdam to the anchorage on the Kaag Lake.
In the previous video we saw that the Wadden sea was a piece of cake, but this shallow IJsselmeer had some nasty waves for me. And those wave are exactly the reason why sailor hate this place.

Waarom ik alles in het Engels doe?
Omdat ik bootjes video's kijk van Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers én heel veel Engelstaligen die allemaal Engels lullen. Want alleen dan kan je je ervaring wereldwijd delen. En wat blijkt? Mijn video's worden in 127 landen bekeken (zie S03/E01 voor de lijst). Veel van mijn kijkers en abonnees zijn Engelstaligen die mijn video's helemaal top vinden, omdat ze óf familie hebben uit Nederland, of hier jaren geleden zijn geboren en door omstandigheden nu elders op de wereld wonen.
Ik verliet Den Helder via een andere route dan die ik nam om er te komen. Deze route zou me via de Waddenzee, IJssel- en Markermeer, door Amsterdam, brengen naar de ankerplaats aan het Kaagmeer. In de vorige video zagen we dat de Waddenzee een fluitje van een cent was, maar dit ondiepe IJsselmeer had voor mij vervelende golven. En die golven zijn precies de reden waarom zeelieden deze plek haten.
Ga je mee op deze tweede etappe als ik de sluizen van Den Oever verlaat naar een prachtige ankerplaats bij de sluizen van Enkhuizen? Welkom aan boord!
Ook met deze video probeer ik je een idee te geven van hoe het leven aan boord voor mij is en ik hoop dat je ervan geniet of misschien zelfs iets leert. Maar het is gewoon mijn verhaal en de manier waarop ik de dingen doe. Niets meer niets minder.

I grew up sailing on the Ijsselmeer and Waddenzee as well as living in Den Helder! I now live in Sydney and while the waves on the IJsselmeer are indeed not great for those who suffer from seasickness, I can teel you from recent experience, a 3 - 3.5m wave height (Swell) is pretty scary for different reasons..... Love watching your videos Henk-Jan from my current sailboat in Sydney :)

Hello Frank! Well the wind is 28knts in the marina here also. Expecting colder weather this week. We had snow and ice a couple of weeks ago, but temps went from -5C to 11C in two days. Let's wait and see what happens next week.

The ‘funny’ thing was that I noticed it in editing. The idea “there is nothing wrong with me” is another. ;-)
But a month ago I was ‘out’ in 30-35 knts of wind, testing new anti-seasickness pills and these are fantastic.

My first time on the ijsselmeer was absolutely more than I bargained for. The shallow waters make the waves quite different. Learned that the hard way haha
Besides sailing with my own boat in the IJsselmeer, I was member of a sailing racing team for over 15 years. Time and time again, this terrible waves made me cranky.
Henk, as a NL-sailor I absolutley love your videos, espacially your focus on details. Did you ever consider to make a video showing how you do your line/mooring mangement single handed in the locks? Have a save trip.
uhm, I think the video's show how easy it is. Especially this video in the Enkhuizen locks.
I use only one line on the middle bollard.
So have two fenders out, bring your own bollard next to the one in the wall, bring on the line, and ready.
This same technique I used when delivering our X-36 on which we raced. As sailboats has more of a belly, have the fenders ready, Create a spot/bollard which is almost in the middle of the boat, and repeat as above.

Dus even hier in de gaten houden en tips op nemen.
Nederland is een mooi vaar land en mag best meer in de picture gezet worden in de wereld.

Yep, (almost) every boat swings behind anchor. I have tried different positions of the snubber with hard winds (20+ knts), but that cuts some angles of the total swing. The downside of Lady Liselot, over 10m she is 5.3m high, so I have always a sail up of 53m2. The wind loves that.

I sailed from Grimsby to Immuden then on to Amsterdam, a few days later I sailed to Dan Helder into the North Sea and back to Hull in my nav teacher's boat for my Yachtmaster Ocean, it was 50 years ago, no sat nav, all dead reckoning a bit of celestial nav and chart plotting in those days, took the wife and ten-year-old son they loved it.
Lovely trip. In 1999 I sailed singlehanded tot the Channel Islands. GPS was introduced just a couple of years ago and I use a radio-seeker to find my position. “Those were the days”…
that was good journey waterways seamed to be quiet no barges😭 this next one through Amsterdam is the one i been looking forwards to nice old buildings and bridges be lots to see😀

I raced an 36ft X-Yacht for 15 years, always manning the pit. It was really cool to do. You can see footage of that in the welcome video on my channel. In that video you also see footage from the ketch cutter that I had from 1997 to 2004 and on which I also lived. Nowadays I am very, very, very happy with Lady Liselot's warm wheelhouse, which means that I can sail all days of the year. There is a chance that when I leave for the south in 2 years, I will switch to 'sailing' again. It will be a cat then.

Snap niet dat je zijwaarts op de golven vaart, gaat schip rollen, en maakt je sneller zeeziek, beter stukje omvaren, tegen de golven in, of met de golven mee, scheelt echt een hele hoop.
Dat heb ik geprobeerd, en je ziet dat de wind op 110 graden van opzij inderdaad beter gaat.

Do we assume that Lady Lisalot is not equipped with stabilizers? The new music styles work very well.
Stabilizers was the only thing on my wish list the Lady did not have. After market add-ons cost € 80k, and I invest that kind of money only in stuff that brings me back my money and not eat it. ;-) Douglas Hannay himself was happy with my choise too. ;-)
hoi Henk-Jan Enkele jaren geleden was ik in het openluchtmuseum in Enkhuizen. Een heel dorpje zoals het vroeger was. Mocht je nog eens in die omgeving komen dan is een korte video impressie daarvan misschien leuk om je kijkers op te tracteren? Weer genoten van je film!
Ik ben afgelopen zomer naar Enkhuizen geweest en heb daar iets van videomateriaal van, maar omdat ik niet zo van de musea ben, heb ik dat automatisch over geslagen.

Toen nog niet. Die vind je ook meer in de Hoornse Hop. Enkele maanden later in de zomer had ik in die regio er dus wél last van en zelfs zo dat ik de speciale app heb geïnstalleerd.
