Really excellent, thanks.
#lavender is marvellous! The first one I've really paid attention to. Somehow it is in my queue with all the Skyhooks songs.
Someone in 2024 listening this bealtiful album?
Yup, me. Favourite band back at the day when I was 16❤
The same for me, il was in love, at school and listen this album several hundred times...
Master piece
Along with entire family pal ☺️

Back in 1987 I almost died in a motorcycle accident. I was 17 then and a frind of mine gave me a copy of this album (it was a tdk cassette copy). I listened to it almost every day during the five months it took me to recover. I learnt the lyrics by hard, I used to sing them aloud with tears in my eyes and a smile in my face. I feel exactly the same now every time I play it again. Greetings from Argentina.
Greetings Argentina!!

Sounds like you're better I'm happy for you. All this gives me shivers down my spine and tears as well.
I think Misplaced Childhood is from 85.

I still remember seeing Marillion at Wembley Arena - sublimely brilliant gig. And Fish said: “The bad news is we’ve only got one song left.” Crowd: boos. “The good news is, it’s Misplaced Childhood.” Crowd: ecstasy… The whole album, live, in a single hit. Just amazing.
what year was this concert? I want to see 👀🧐😊
geezus that should have felt amazingly crazy O_O
impossibile stancarsi di ascoltare questi pezzi progressive, fluiscono armonici e vari dal primo all' ultimo, stupefacente!
Love it ! xD
❤Amazing album
I'm a 54 year old man and just listened to this for the first time in 30 odd years and it brought tears to my eyes. X.
I was in the U.S. Air Force in 1985, and was stationed in England. That summer I went to the Monsters of Rock concert in Donnington Castle. I watched ZZ Top, and Marillion, and many other groups that day. This brings back such great memories.
AF rocks. A witness of history
I was in Germany and I got the disc at the base audio shop. Not the BX.
I called 1 of my daughters kayleigh after the song. Sadly I lost my gorgeous daughter aged 15 God rest her little soul. Can't listen to that song anymore without crying for her .such a great song as well.
I AM SAD FOR YOU GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER
Stay strong and Shine on! You deserve to feel good
My support and thoughts are with you from one mother of an angle to another ❤😢
So Sorry, bless you.
After hearing this song, I too, named my youngest daughter, Kayleigh. I saw Marillion a few months before she was born. For months, my wife and I listened to this song nearly every day before she was born. After already having had five children, Kayleigh was to be the last child we would have. She was an absolute joy. A perfect, beautiful baby. At the time, I was taking night classes in International Business Administration to finish my BS degree at the University of _ _. Three months after her birth, while I was in class, someone from the office came and said I had an important phone call from one of my neighbors. I was told by this neighbor to get to the hospital as quickly as possible without telling me why. Upon arriving at the hospital, I found that Kayleigh had passed away due to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). The grief and loss my family experienced still exists today. To anyone who reads this ... LOVE your children, spouse, family, and friends. You never know when someone you love is taken away. Forgive petty squabbling, serve each other, be kind and considerate, and live for others. That's all I have to say. Peace, Blessings, and Grace
One of the best albums of all times, a true masterpiece.

Marillion ,pink floyd, dire straits, etc the list is long.

Nice one merry 😊
Thank you 80s for giving us this music
I’ve posted this before but most people cite Morrissey as the greatest lyricist of the 80s .I personally feel Fish is the standout wordsmith of that era.
In terms of progressive rock bands, I think that Fish took over that responsibility once Roger Waters left Pink Floyd. Although there are some similarities with Genesis in parts, to say that Marillion were derivative of Genesis is just lazy journalism. Genesis never produced anything as powerful as Misplaced Childhood or Clutching At Straws. Steve Rothery is a real rock fan's guitarist and Fish inherited Water's crown.
Bob dylan is my go to .but yes fish and morrisey deserve a place in lyrics also pink floyd..
@@PAC-fp9hyThe Musical Box, Supper's Ready, Fifth of Fifth, The Cinema Show, Carpet Crawlers, Ripples and Dance on a Volcano/Los Endos are pretty powerful and intense.
No way
@@PAC-fp9hyAs an early fan of both Genesis and Pink Floyd (I'm 59), I love unconditionally Misplaced Childhood and Script for a Jester's Tear and the great scottish poet Fish. Honestly, I find more Genesis than Pink Floyd in this music. Yet, I wouldn't say that Marillion are more powerful than Genesis, simply because it can't be true (all tracks in Trespass, Nursery Crime, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and some of the following songs), are timeless classic of unbelievably high skill and power under any profile.
I'm 22 years old, my mother made me discover this masterpiece, Today I released how rich these songs are and I truly believe the complexity of Marillion songs can compete with Queen's one !
I was 22 and this album was one of my absolute favorits. Now at 57 it still is !!!

When this album was released I was in 1st year of college and struggling. I had just been diagnosed with depression and was unable to get over crap from my childhood. This album captivated me as the title song captured so much of my emotional state. This album and “Quadrophenia” actually helped me work through a lot of stuff. Holds a special place in my heart.🌺

1986, I was 20yrs old, fresh out of the army (conscription) Singapore. I was in London by myself and my first time out of Asia. As I walked along the streets of London, I was listening to this album playing from a pirated cassette tape on my cheap imitation Walkman. Marillion sounded very "English" enhanced by the environment.

Sadly, Fish quit after their fourth album. He was getting into some nasty habits with nasty substances and simply couldn't hack it anymore.
@@FrozenHero2010 But there were some very good creations in his solo career. SHADOW PLAY to me is one of the strongest of them, and some more mentionable, for instance LUCKY, CLICHÉ and some more. Marillion was never the same since he went away, but, nevertheless, have some fine songs over the years. AFRAID OF SUNLIGHT was a very fine album and OCEAN CLOUD is one of the most impressive progrock pieces ever written.
If I may extend your horizon, listen to MOSTLY AUTUMN who were founded about a decade later than MARILLION. Pieces like WINTER MOUNTAIN, THE NIGHT SKY, THE GAP IS TOO WIDE or MOTHER NATURE will burn into your mind and never let you go again.
The mark of a good album: first you buy it and play it a bit... then you play it a bit more... then years later you realise you've played it hundreds of times and you still play it. Brilliant! !

One of my best memories was seeing Marillion live in a club in Poughkeepsie, NY. When Fish went out into the audience during "Lavender," he went up to the two girls I was hanging with to sing with him. They had never heard the music before, so they couldn't. He looked at me and shrugged, and we sang, arms around each other. He approached me again, in Philadelphia many years later on a solo tour. I like to think he remembered me but probably not. I imagine it was the first and possibly only time he sang that with a guy from the crowd. What a memory!
Love that. 🙂
Much respect to you my friend
Over the years I am sorry to say that I completely forgot just how good this album is. It has stood the test of time and gladly is back living for free in my head, where it belongs.
I totally apologize for by-passing this wonderful band. I was in my teens in the 70's and I was into prog rock, Genesis, ELP, Yes, Strawbs, Camel, Renaissance, Pink Floyd etc. etc. etc. When the 80's came along I got into bands like JOY DIVISION/NEW ORDER, U2, Echo and the Bunnymen, Simple Minds, etc.etc.etc. I knew of Marillion, but I never really listened to them properly. WHAT A BAND!!! They are magnificent, especially this album.

When this came out I was 16. Now I´m 55 and I still love it. The problem with this album is: you must not just listen to it, you have to be able to feel it. If you are not, it´s probably just another album from another band. If you are, its one of the best albums of all pop/rockhistory. Marillion with Fish wasn´t as successfull as they deserved, because there are not enough people out there to feel. Well, obviously here you can find a lot of them/us 🙃
I just wanted to listen a few seconds... couldn‘t turn it off, I had to listen to the whole first half. I still know every single word, every note. There is no album in the world that meant more to me than this one. Even after 35 years...unbelievable!
I agree and for me it´s "only" 34 years...

This is such an incredibly brilliant album. Breaks your heart and lifts you up. Fantastic.

tout a fait, l’extase auditive......
A LOT
Always .1 of the best albums i still listen to today .And maybe tomorrow but definitely soon and always till whenever .
Absolutely .
It's 2020, and this is the album that saw me through parental abuse until I left 'home' for Uni'. Thank goodness for Marillion.
I listen to this when I’m feeling lonely or sad. I let the lyrics bring me lower and lower then up slowly. It helps me release the sadness like coming out of a cloud.
Yep, the album is a complete psychological journey down into the depths of despair, only to be pulled out at the end. I made the comment above on a very deep thread, I wonder how many lives this album has saved?
Back in '83 I was for some reason in Copenhagen and saw a poster saying that Marillion was performing the same evening not far from where I was. Never heard of them, didn't know them at all. But never the less I thought "Why not". So off I went. Had about half an hour to get there. Man was I surprized. Really good gig. The day after I went out and bought their first album "Script for a Jester's Tear" which had just been released.
One of the greatest albums ever recorded
Thank you x
Yes, true.
Along with Clutching At Straws…….
Every time I play this album, I say to my self (and my wife) that this is the most beautiful album I own. This music brings you in a higher atmosphere.
Absolutly
I have not heard this album in years. So love it. Such lovely positive comments left regarding this amazing unique group. ❤
Marillion coming after Genesis with Peter Gabriel era is over..
That's art & theater musical i think..i love it..👍🏼
Sitting and listening to this album after a long while. Hit childhoods end and I find mysslf crying uncontrollably. Has been a week full of transformative decisions, of having realized I've allowed my childhood to be crushed and stolen for decades, and I finally let go and am looking anxiously at what might stand before me, hoping that I can discover that child that is still in there and find my direction. Those words just hit me in the gut like nothing else could...
Haven't listened to "old" Marillion in awhile and had almost forgotten how awesome this album is.
Jeremy Cox same here,its brilliant
I’ve only just discovered it after hearing a track on a vid haven’t stopped playing it for 2 days
February 5th, 2023 is the day that my guitar player named Ego introduced me to Marillion!! I fall in love instantly!! The progressions and the mystical presence of the sound felt like a perfectly played a musical without taboos or restraints!! What a beautiful album and unique performance!!!
One of the best albums ever made........so many memories......
I bought the CD in 1989, now i'm 67 and i still love it.
I was BLESSED to see this show at the San Francisco Warfield Theater. Was anyone else there?
Each magical note on this album is strong and sweet at the same time. It's a drug. Every time I listen to it with my super bass headphones, I discover the wonder of the first time, because my thoughts and my imagination fly to unknown worlds, arousing a whirlwind of unspeakable emotions. It's the perfect album. Grazie di esistere Marillion!!!!!!!
I'm a floyd fan.saw marillion 84.saw floyd 94. Earls court this was my childhood 😊
I feel sorry for those who have never experienced the glory of this album.
I never heard about this group too, were they popular or rather prefered to remain out of the spotlight?
@@dandan9175 they've been around recording since the early 1980's. Great band.
It wasn't for the simple minded pop rockers...intelligent rock based from the poetry of life thought out
Ah, truer words hath never been spoken by mortals, my friend! I just found this site, yet have been a raging Marillion AND Fish fanatic since - while home on leave in 85?86? - 'Kayliegh' video came-up on MTV. I was HOOKED like a heroin addict - bought Misplaced that day - and within 3 months acquired every piece of vinyl they'd produced. I had a rough go in the service - okay... my entire life... and these blokes (all of them Fish, Steve, Aitch, Pete, Ian, Mark, Mick, Brian..I credit ALL of them) - all honesty, here - saved my life, more than once! My biggest regret in life (among many...) is, when they toured the States...last time w/ Fish (unbeknownst to us, at the time...), I was too much of a lush - missed them live w/Mr. Dick on the Misplaced Tour! Ahhh, but I HAVE seen Fish, once, live...and Marillion twice ( and, I gotta' give props, here...thanks to one those shows, I'm now also a big, big, big fanatic of Spock's Beard! Like Frosted Flakes, theyyy'rre GREEAAT! Aaaand...gotta say, here, Aitch ( & all of them) - at the last time I saw 'em live, blew me the fuck away... after about, maybe 5 or 6 songs...Mark's fingers began Pseudo Silk Kimono, & I thought, 'No way... that's Fish's'! grrr.' - BUT... Mister Hogarth won my soul that night. He put his heart & soul in it...and did the impossible...sang Misplaced like an angel...he OWNED it... I love Fish & I love Marillion. Period. And that's that. Thanks for letting me share!
@@dandan9175 They were big in Europe and also popular with metal fans.
Kayleigh was a radio hit.
Good thing this album is a masterpiece. It overshadow Marllion's true nature...
OMG ! I bought this album back in the day and 35 years later I’m loving it more x
