  • We were a little late to the party, but we see things a little differently. Virgin Voyages is pushing out a new type of way to cruise and they're not holding back. Is this cruise line too risqué, or are they just all bark and no bite? We sailed aboard the Scarlet Lady and we were quite surprised. It wasn't exactly in a good way either. Check out our full review to let you know how our plain experience was aboard this taboo ship.
    *NOTED:
    The only pay for show is on the Resilient Lady, called "Another Rose". All other entertainment is a part of your package.

    Wow....there's a lot of confusion and mis-information here. First, if you do your on line check in thru the app BEFORE you arrive at the terminal and you arrive at your assigned "terminal arrival time" (which you can select after doing the check in on the app), check in is a breeze. VERY rapid, If you have not done it, there is a separate line for people who need help. If you arrive before your scheduled time, you will wait! The bracelet--if you like it, wear it. If you don't like it, put it in a pocket, remove the sensor part and attach it to a key chain or anything else you want to use. The only point is that you must have the sensor device for charging, room entry, etc. It doesn't have to stay on the bracelet. "Always been a card" says something about which lines you cruise and how recently you've cruised. Other lines have "Magic Bands," "Medallions," etc. Even the older technology as gone from cards that you slide to cards that you tap. Virgin sail away is always scheduled for 6. That is consistent with their later embarkation and disembarkation times. You truly cannot compare anything VV to other lines. One of their goals was to be different, Once again--SOME of The Galley stations you can walk up to the station and be served there (deserts, soup and salad, sushi, popsicles, among others). The ones where the food has to be cooked, you have to order and it is brought to you. The advantage--the food is fresh cooked for you; it hasn't been sitting in a warmer for an hour with people being not always clean about spoon handling, etc. The downside--it takes a few minutes; usually less than 10. Test Kitchen has 2 menus listed as A and B, served on different nights. What you showed was B, which is our least favorite food on the entire ship. There are NO specialty restaurants on VV in the sense that there are on other lines. ALL restaurants are included in your cruise fare, There are 6 sit down restaurants where reservations are strongly recommended, although they do take walk ins if space is available. There are 2 HUGE indoor gyms, as well as the outdoor stuff. All fitness classes are also included at no charge.
    There have been NO pay extra shows on any of our VV cruises. You need to make reservations on the app to guarantee a seat (there is also a standby line for those who didn't make a reservation), but NO CHARGE.

      Hey there, Kathryn. Are you an employee of Virgin Voyages? I (Gil) read your entire comment, and I wondered if there was an issue on our end. Based on your statement "Wow...there's a lot of confusion and mis-information here." I had to check and break everything down.
      1. If you listened to our arrival portion, 2:01, we explain that you should do check in on your app because it makes check in a lot faster. If you DO all of the things you need to do then check in is a breeze. If you make a mistake then there's a separate line. Even showed how things were going where I was good and my wife, not so much, and had to go on a separate line for help. So where were you misinformed?
      2. When it comes to the Key/Sensor card, We have yet to sail on a Disney cruise or a newer Royal Caribbean cruise. I believe those are ones that use those wristband sensors. We are actually locked in on the Icon of the Seas come March 2024. We have sailed on NCL: Prima, Bliss, Breakaway (2x), Escape (2x), Joy, Dawn, Gem - VIVA in Feb 2024 / Carnival: Mardi Gras, Breeze, Sunrise - Celebration and Horizon in 2024. / Royal Caribbean: Freedom of the Seas - Icon of the Seas in March 2024. Newer ships. like the Prima and Celebration used Key Cards. We've been on quite a lot of cruises over the past 11 years. We just started to document our trips and review the later cruises we have taken. There's a bit of experience here.
      3. When it came to the food section, 02:19, we clearly explain that there are couple of places in the Galley where you can pick up some food, but the majority is sit down and order from the seat. We could have been more specific about the types of food one can walk up to and get. But like you said it's only fruits, soups, deserts, sushi and salad..It's not major food items like burgers, full meals.etc. The other issue noted for the Test kitchen is that it's not the same menu each day. So one could get unappealing cuisine one night and good another.
      In summary, we have been on quite a few cruises and understand how things go. It's all about the experiences. What one may like, someone else may not like. I question whether you've seen the entire video, as most of what you mentioned was in our video. Not sure what happened. We love going on vacay every time we get. Whether it's a cruise or resort in another country, we're all for it. You seem like you work on Virgin Voyages from your comments. For us, the amount it costs for a cruise on Virgin isn't exactly bang for your buck. It has its positives and negatives. Just in our case, the negatives overshadowed the positives. Someone else could possibly have the time of their lives. That's just how it goes. Go out there and ride the waves of life. Enjoy every second of it while you can. That's all I can I say. Peace

      @@downtovacay No affiliation with VV other than having done several cruises with them. I think the things that bothered me most were the remark that you had to pay for the entertainment (we never have), and the vague reference to "Richard's club or something" that you supposedly had access to. The only thing I could relate was Richard's Rooftop which has access thru a black wristband which is given to suite guests and occasional You Tubers or travel agents. I agree that the waiting area in the terminal is lovely but I've never seen anyone use it as boarding is so quick.
      Medallions are on Princess,. Magic Bands are on DCL. Not sure about others.

    • @downtovacay
      @downtovacay  11 месяцев назад +1

      Why would you be bothered? Sounds bad. I look at it this way... If there is something we say that may be wrong, let us know. BUT, so far your first comments about our particular reviews have been debunked.
      1. As for the entertainment, in the info of this video we clarified the only pay for show is on the Resilient Lady, called "Another Rose". All other entertainment is a part of your package. . Are you saying that the show on the Resilient Lady "Another Rose" is not an extra charge? It's free?
      2. We did make a reference to the private VIP section at the terminal. NOT the suites on the ship. That was the ARRIVAL portion of the video. When we booked the cruise, Virgin gave a special perk to new cruisers. They would match the status of your status on another cruise line. Just so happens that we are Platinum on NCL, so they gave us the perks of using the VIP lounge at the terminal, which we didn't use because we got there late. I stated that in the video. We would have shown the footage had we got there early.

    No kids means 2 persons on average per cabin vs 4 if you had a bunch of kids.
    This means shorter lines , less crowds , easier work for the crew so they can provide better service.
    Dinning is equal to specialty dinning on other cruise lines. The extra fees are minimal.

    Plus no bs about water since you get bottles in your mini fridge , so no water fees , free arcade also

      Hey there, Kammy. Thanks for posting. We should have been more clear with that part because I think my wife meant the other ship and in general. There is a show that costs extra called "Another Rose". It is on the Resilient Lady though. I'll def add that to the info. Thanks for the heads up.

    I appreciate the review. I will be cruising for the first time in a few days. You guys reaffirmed that I will probably like this cruise not only because its kid free but also because I am not into risky activities. I am a chill mode type of guy in his early 50s. Thanks for the review.

      Enjoy the cruise. It is def chill. It is surely an adult affair on board the VV cruise ships. Depending on your energy and who you come across, you may get invited to secret parties. Glad you were able to get some good info from our video. #downtovacay

    Small plates but unlimited food. Order as little or as much as your heart desires. There’s no limit on what you can order.

    I’ve already booked my cruise with Virgin Voyages because it’s kids free. If not for that I would never go on a cruise. I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be amazing.

      I, Gil, work with kids. Always have. It felt weird not having any kids around. Was cool for a bit, but I felt kinda bored. Others would def love not hearing/seeing the youngins run amok haaaaa

    Sounds like you didn’t like it much and shouldn’t go back. There’s a lot here that’s misleading and/or incomplete information, I hope no one relies on this video to make a decision to go on a VV trip.

    • @downtovacay
      @downtovacay  10 месяцев назад

      Please share what is misleading or incomplete. We have no issue with admitting to not knowing or missing something. We liked it enough to mention good things. We also didn't like certain things. Our reviews are subjective. What may be good to you may not be good for someone else. So let's look at these choices and you tell us which one you'd go on.
      Let us compare cruises out of Miami for July 7th weekend
      Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady:
      5 Nights / Sea Terrace Balcony - Dominican Republic & Bimini Island w/ Free Wifi = $3,400 w/payment in full. You may get a $300 Bar tab if you're a new cruiser.
      Carnival Celebration:
      6 Days / Balcony (Deck 9) - Grand Turk, Amber Cove, Nassau Bahamas = $2,747
      NCL Breakaway:
      7 Days / Balcony - Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, Tortola, Private Island w/2 specialty restaurants, unlimited drinks including alcohol, $50 off per shore excursions = $3,242
      Which one looks like the best bang for your buck? Seems like this particular cruise line is giving us the most hot comments. As for not wanting to go back, it would not be our 1st repeat cruise if we were planning another one. The amount of money we spent, for the amount of days and lack of activities we had, would not be something we'd want to do again. The itinerary is too short for the price we paid. The only bright side was Bimini Island, the themed parties and live performers. While we appreciate our viewers to give us a shout on anything we put out, you have to break down the criticisms as well. We put out our HONEST reviews. No click bait. No switcharoos. Just simple subjective reviews that you either find helpful or not. Simple as that.
