Developer here, you guys would not believe how hard I fought with that mouse! I'm a keyboard and mouse player too so to me it was important to get it to work smoothly for combat because I rarely used the controller, glad to see that the in-game mouse control satisfies you despite the issues (even when I disappointed with the menu! I will definitely look into that), there is some good amount of improvements and fixes for the release day and this kind of videos with tons of feedback help a lot. edit: Reworked the entire game to make it mouse friendly, hope this feels good now! I did everything I possibly could think about, every single actions is also open to rebind in the options, so if something is not convincing please remember that!
Just stumbled upon this game today on Steam, and it looks incredible. Love the pixel art and horror elements, excited to see how Souls-inspired this is. The gameplay looked somewhat like Hades to me, which is a great thing.
On the cat side banter: if anything, my cat got me to stop believing in ghosts. Door creaking and moving? It's the cat. Something falls on the floor? It's the cat. Clawing my feet and leaving my bed a bloody mess? It's the cat. Hissy voice calling my name? It's the cat. Pulling my blankets while I'm sleeping? It's the cat.
I'm with you 100% on menu mouse control (or rather, consistency within a game). I think we all realize early release games are that way for a reason - which is why I appreciate your unbiased approach to constructive criticism for devs. Keep up the good work, Splat!
Hey @Splattercatgaming , just to come back to this, based on your feedback we completely reworked the mouse interaction with the game, now every menu should be 100% clickable (but trust me, it was definitely not about just "let it there"!! Took some effort and a chunk of my mental sanity hahaha), I also improved the mouse response and added a new option in the menu, where the player can choose between attacking towards the mouse or the facing direction (so you basically aim your attacks with "awsd", preferred by some keyboard users), also every single action now can be rebind to another key, I would love to know your opinion, always willing to improve, our artist will also look into improving the mouse icon for those snow backgrounds.
Instantly going from critique and tips to comedy was brilliant! "Calm yourself. Here, eat some bullets" have to say, the guy has style. Good stuff Splat!
Rose flavouring is quite popular in Asia and the Middle East. I grew up in Maldives, and you could buy juice boxes with rose water and milk in them. Turkish delight is rose flavoured. I even have rose water in my cupboard for making it.
It's obvious to me that the eyes that open during the wave fights aren't an enemy and just indicate that the battle is still going. The circular blast when you hit it is used in a lot of games to indicate invulnerability. But design language isn't universal and that's not how Splat read it. That element should be tutorialized or redesigned. Maybe removing all hit feedback from the eye would better indicate that you can't interact with it.
3:20 must be using a sound asset pack. that's the same dying sound they used in In Celebration of Violence. I remember it, because you hear it a lot in that game, lol.
Hey splattercat not sure if you knew this or not but former ufc middleweight champion Robert Whitaker just shouted you out on the submission radio podcast. As an mma fan and a fan of you it was the most unexpected thing ever.
I also consider that it's confusing to have an enemy that you are not supposed to hit as the waves spawn. Although it became clear when I saw that the waves were different each time that killing the minions was what was progressing the level. But in that case, I would suggest making the non damageable enemy to not show any effects when hit. Or, the effect and the sound should be more indicative of the fact that you are not inflicting any damage, like a "clang" sound and maybe your character bouncing back a bit as if your attack had been parried.
The mouse cursor vanished when you fired after dashing across the goop (23:14). It remained gone while you were melee attacking, and returned when you started firing again (23:23). Looks like a graphics glitch, and a temporary fix at the cost of resources.
Rose hips are a different thing and doesn't come from roses. In Sweden we mostly make a fruit soup from it. Consistency is somewhere between a juice and a smoothie, I'd say.
Looks like the 10 damage weapons are different speeds and range, spear almost caught splat on his ass when the enemy closed, so fists for close fast and wave enemies and the rapier for mid ground of both
I'm hoping more story is told in these early segments because it feels like this is a sequel that expects you to know why she carved up a statue to bathe in grimace essence
I am not really with you on mouse control. While it is more precise, it also has its down sides. With a controller i can lean back and put my feet up while I play. I also don't think its necessarily correct to assume controller = console. I'm probably a touch older than you. I had computers in the 90's and I always had a joystick/controller even way back then. I get it but just saying its not really fair to say "make for mouse and keyboard if pc." I will also say I think your cursor issue is probably also due to being controller optimized. You wouldn't really need a cursor initially with a directional pad because you would just flick to the direction of the attack you want.
Thanks for the feedback Brian, I read similar comments and will definitely look into that. We focused a lot on making the gameplay fluid for mouse and keyboard, that had drastic changes over the years until we felt that we got it right, but the menu always stayed keyboard only since day one and we didn't gave it much though because we got used to it, controllers are easy to map for these kind of games but hopefully we can make everyone happy with some tuning, let me know what you think about the controller if you get to play, I definitely can do with the experience (I had very little hands in the 90's so no controller for me, plugged ones at least!).
While I too am a die hard KB+M player of PC games, I don't think that can be considered part of the platform for gaming anymore then a controller/gamepad. PC are devices that can use many input devices and controllers have been a big part of that for the last 40 years. I think games designed for controllers over KB+M is valid.

Man cats at night are terrifying. Mine wakes up up by scratching at the walls and its as bad as nails on chalkboards just because opening the door is beneath him and I gotta get out of bed to do it. This game looks good Im very excited for its release. Personally I dont mind the lack of mouse control on menus but I do wish there was keyboard controls all the time like I dont want to take my hand off the keyboard for anything not even aiming - why cant everyone give us tab targeting???
ADORE the pixel art, and I love the theme. Think I spotted an old FF6 animation when she gets hit sometimes which I love the homage. The instant death floors are a deal break for me though sadly. Still I hope this does super well.
Might be due to M&B not having the best representation of spear fighting, outside of on horseback. The momentum-based damage system doesn't help on-foot spear fighting much, and it should allow some swing animations for less base damage, or make it possible for an enemy to damage themselves if they try to push in right on the tip of your spear to attack, like actually holding a spear on point functions.
