I've been impressed with Devolver's last few games, and this one looks like it's got some real potential. I love the graphic style. I do agree with Splat that it doesn't feel wizardy enough, though. There's magic in the world, but we don't do much of it. We're not so much "wizard with a gun" as we are just "with a gun."
I think that's kinda the issue with "wizard with a gun" concepts. It's a great premise, but it's somewhat hard to implement in a way beyond the immediately obvious (elementally infused bullets and grenades and whatnot). Wizard spells and guns often fill the same role in video games. I'm pretty sure it can be done though, and it'll sick once someone finally gets it right! edit: lol I didn't realize that was literally the name of the game when I said "wizard with a gun". I meant that as a hypothetical genre of game [that doesn't exist because of the issues I mentioned]
it feels like someone saw don't starve and thought: "what if i could shoot the grass to harvest it instead of walking and clicking everything individually" the extraction gameplay is a neat idea but i wonder if they can pull it off in the full game. PVE doesn't feel threatening, maybe they'll add PvP?
I love .Hack, I also played them all. I loved how they added that name transfer touch if you beat the game and went into GU :). seeing my name in the credits and having your chosen character name(it was my name) on Kite, made me so happy. :)
Wizard with a Gun is my favorite class in Grim Dawn! No ARPG does that weird archetype like Grim Dawn, IMO. This game does look like fun. I'm glad it's not a pure combat 'rogue-lite', too. Reminds me a lot of Bastion, and that's not a bad thing.
Backpack, 2nd from top. Only backpack I would use. Ever. I'm Rincewind, I am a Wizzzard as it says on my hat. And this is my Luggage. Don't get under it's feet.
I have a 3 string Cigar box guitar kind of like the opening guitarist. its pretty common. I build mine from a floorboard of an abandoned mental hospital.
In some games that "take this to X to craft/charge/whatever" is a PvP mechanic, unsure why its in this game. If they just wanted you to complete a certain area before crafting it should drop soemthing you need to power a crafting table at your base.
Seen gameplay for about 25 seconds I can see this game is right up my alley. I can only prey that it makes it's way to console. Most games featured on this channel don't but it is devolver digital.
This game has my sincere interest now. I like the core game loop and the art style is fantastic, what I am worried about tho is that the mechanics might get complicated.
You know what this game needs? Familiars. They could run around and help you. Maybe that's a planned feature. (If it was in there somewhere, I missed it.)
I most of the time prefer that the items in chests are available anywhere from within the base, but sometimes like the challenge of reality. This game has an opportunity to provide both. Just add a magic item that adds that function found or crafted soon after you are able to build the chest.
The name reminded me of a D&D 3.0 company that produced The Witchfire Trilogy which had a really nice gun mage PR Class to it. Haven't seen the vi yet.
"this is my first time playing through but it has guns involved so i think i'll be okay" The most american of americans i swear i heard a bald eagle nearby just by writing this
Tons of potential when it comes to this concept. I wish they didn't force the crafting aspect of elemental bullets. I wish they'd let you enchant the gun via spellcasting, then let that persist until the player gets bored or needs to swap out/dispel it. Would also be cool to justify crafting from storage via spacial magic and send carried items to your chests the same way. Heck, make crafting easier with transmutation spells, even using them to break stuff to material components. Also, some basic spell-slinging wouldn't hurt either. Sometimes a fireball saves on bullets, y'know? Some people just want to feel like Sith Lords, too. That or maybe combine ice with their gat, freeze a mofo and blow them to pieces. Let people turn enemies to stone as well, then harvest them for rocks or heck, even make it a statue for their house/HQ.
I just downloaded a demo, and beat it, took me 3 hours and so...am still gathering materials to unlock whatever left for me to unlock... can't wait to play it
It happened like it usually happens with reviews that you make - i paused in the middle, finished the demo in like 3hrs, came back to finish the video.
Oh WOW! 😍 This is a MUST HAVE, I reckon. This game had me with that wickedly awesome INTRO sung by the gnarled old Bard. That was just brilliant! 🎶💖 Thanks Splatt. You've found another one! 👍😊 M 🦘🏏😎
I feel like if the conceit of your game is "with a gun," then the gun should feel more impactful - everything from the animations (which you mentioned), to the sound, to the speed of the projectile all sound really lackluster.
Well, it is heavily designed around crafting weapons, benches and equipment, so it's hardly surprising that the very base level starter gun is underwhelming. Which doesn't change the fact that the sounds especially feel somewhat lacklustre. Looks fun enough currently to install the demo and spend at least a few hours trying it out, I'd say.
Doesn't seem to have much of the survival elements :P it's more of a twin-stick shooter with some base building. The art definitely looks like Don't starve but gameplay not so much
19:15 is the reason why I hate most survival games. When you need to move vast amounts of resources for 30 minutes to build some upgradable thingy, just because somebody didn't take an extra few hours of coding? That's when the game ends up in a bin.
Splat: “the tutorial was boring let’s move on”
Also splat: “what do I do? Craft a new gun? Craft bullets? What’s going on?”
Splatt is the best.
I particularly love the harvesting with the fire bullets instead of making more of the cheap ones.
That's very Splatt
Also splat: figures it out workably in seconds
that's why never skip tutorials , hahahaa
I can't wait for the day where Splattercat plays 20 minutes in the character creator and then concludes before getting to the actual game.
Ok that intro was ridiculously sick…. One of the best I’ve ever seen.
What do you mean lol he just talks a bit about the game every time
@@LucasSoaresy maybe he meant the intro cinematic
If only there were ferns EVERYWHERE to upgrade the book. :D Classic Splat right there.
" I cast parabellum."
-Side effects: Minor lead poisoning in target.

Cowboy with a Magic Gun.

I LOVE that they went with the FF black mage "hidden behind a cloak of darkness/magic" face. Such a great design :)
I love .Hack, I also played them all. I loved how they added that name transfer touch if you beat the game and went into GU :). seeing my name in the credits and having your chosen character name(it was my name) on Kite, made me so happy. :)

Had this on my wishlist for so long with no info I thought it had been abandoned! Glad to see it's being worked on
Actually, they share bits and pieces of all kinds every friday on discord
Your videos always improves my mood. Thank you Splatter cat, i really needed that boost today.
I would buy this just to reward them for that awesome intro cinematic.
A wizard with a gun? If his name isn't Harry Dresden, I'm gonna be upset.
I love how when you met Darnaby the little dude nearby waved at you with the cute eye and you just shot him.
"Wizard with a Gun" had me thinking of "Wizards" from Ralph Bakshi.
Ralph Bakshi is a master, Wizards was great.
Exactly what I thought of.
"I wanna show you a trick mother showed me when you weren't around."
“A grown man’s gotta get it out sometimes”

I love when devs pick this kind of name, no "Wizards of Whateverland" or "Blablaria's Demise", feels so refreshing 😂
Well this was fortuitous timing! A Splattercat video!
Backpack, 2nd from top. Only backpack I would use. Ever.

The kitty mini rant was my favorite part, had me crazked 😅
Ahh, a fellow .hack enjoyer. I knew you were a man of discerning taste.

Does everyone just skate over SplatterCat actually splattering a cat and no even loot it?
This game has my sincere interest now.
I like the core game loop and the art style is fantastic, what I am worried about tho is that the mechanics might get complicated.
Love the opening intro animation story. Would watch a movie like that.
You know what this game needs? Familiars. They could run around and help you. Maybe that's a planned feature. (If it was in there somewhere, I missed it.)
So I just played the demo for like 3 hours and one of the best early bullets is a charm bullet that lets you have an enemy as a pet. It's awesome.
"Wood is holding us back from success and being awesome." So true...
I most of the time prefer that the items in chests are available anywhere from within the base, but sometimes like the challenge of reality.
This game has an opportunity to provide both. Just add a magic item that adds that function found or crafted soon after you are able to build the chest.
Spatty this is your Doctor, if that wood lasts longer than 24hrs you should come see me.
22:00 Kept running past those ferns he needed.
The name reminded me of a D&D 3.0 company that produced The Witchfire Trilogy which had a really nice gun mage PR Class to it. Haven't seen the vi yet.

Dude I've had this on wish list for 2 years, just waiting. Finally let's go
This has been on my wishlist for a long time.
that intro is strong!

It’s literally a shadow wizard money gang member😂
I just downloaded a demo, and beat it, took me 3 hours and so...am still gathering materials to unlock whatever left for me to unlock... can't wait to play it
"Don't Starve with a Gun"
the title is amazing
It happened like it usually happens with reviews that you make - i paused in the middle, finished the demo in like 3hrs, came back to finish the video.
Also, totally agree, crafting from storage chests really should be standard these days.
Factorio is waiting for you
I just saw an ad for this earlier today! It looks fun :)
The cutscene was amazing. And nothing like the game.
Really reminds you of don’t starve artistic wise. this looks quite interesting. I’d love this on switch or something.
It's almost the exact same art style...
I will just assume that "The Poison Machine" creates "Poison" in Potion Bottles thus Splatters need to call it a "Potion Machine"? ;) LOL!
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
Gonna play this one on my ally, looks great!
I get "Toe Jam and Earl" vibes from this game.
I just realized who your voice/accent reminds of at times... Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China. 😊
I still have all the .Hack's. So much nostalgia
OMG is it just me or this game looks amazing i think we have a hiden gem in here !!!
Shadow wizard money gang
Damn, that opening was fantastic.
.hack mention!
Dresden in the Wild West.
I've been waiting for this games
Love the name of this one.
"doge this ye filthy casuals"
Such casual, much dodge. Wow. 😁
When you take ala ka blam meme too seriously lol
Dndefinitions tells me that Wizards, Sorcerere, and Warlocks are rather different professions.
The floor tiles and how the hero moves reminds me a bit of the "don't starve" game.
Splatter mentioned Don't starve right in the intro at about 0:20
27:40 "How much wood and I siting on?" lol
Shadow Wizard Money Gang, We Love Casting Spells
This looks fun. 👍🏼
Hey, its Vivi
The shooting stops you moving. They need this to be more bullet helly. ETG style!
Splat needing wood, what has this world come too.
Gunslinger: Am I a joke to you?
Oh WOW! 😍 This is a MUST HAVE, I reckon.
This game had me with that wickedly awesome INTRO sung by the gnarled old Bard. That was just brilliant! 🎶💖
Thanks Splatt. You've found another one! 👍😊

We love casting spells
❤ splat out of 10

This looks interesting.
Is it an alternative for D4? Sorry :D Kidding :)
looks spiffy and huzzah for demos
The intro music screams Tom Waits
It's not available for download yet?
This developer is S tier for an indy.
Doesn't seem to have much of the survival elements :P it's more of a twin-stick shooter with some base building. The art definitely looks like Don't starve but gameplay not so much
The moment i saw this i thought the wizard use a gun that shoots bullets made out of pure magic like fire bullets, ice bullets etc😂
pretty awesome cutscene. this should have been an anime, not a game. lol
19:15 is the reason why I hate most survival games. When you need to move vast amounts of resources for 30 minutes to build some upgradable thingy, just because somebody didn't take an extra few hours of coding? That's when the game ends up in a bin.
awesome
i thought it was going to have set characters
Become a member of the Shadow Wizard Money Gang, by playing this game
Devolver digital makes great games.

WIZARD WITH A GUN IS OUT?
