Fort Myers Beach one year after hurricane Ian

  • Views from the North end of the island. The very slow rebuilding still going on. Some places just gave up on the insurance nightmare and are trying to sell, kudos to those who are trying like Yotaco, The Goodz, Tunaskin, Bella Mozarella, Yucatan, Cold Stone, Snug Harbor, MoJoe's, etc, etc.
The beach itself is good, the dredging project going on has the water darker than it should be but is not bad, maybe the only positive side from all the destruction is the excess of parking.
Remember that hurricane Ian killed 72 people in Lee County, enough with the stupid "florida man" idea: "I will buy some beer and ride the storm"

Thank You for making this video. It is heartbreaking to see this, I lived in Ft Myers and moved back to Indiana in 2001. When my mother would come visit we would go to DQ by the pier and have ice cream and watch the sunset. Again, Thank You

I can’t thank you enough for this video. I lived on Fort Myers Beach for years. I now live in central Florida but am about to move back down there. As upsetting as it is to see. I know the people of Fort Myers are strong and will persevere.

Thank you so much for posting this. I am Canadian and have a home in Lehigh Acres. I have not been back since last March and it breaks my heart to see such devastation. I really did think that it would have been rebuilt mostly by now. So, so sad.

FINALLY, an honest and realistic video about the current status of FMB. Almost all FMB videos post Ian have been trying to sell an optimistic narrative while quickly driving by empty buildings and vacant lots. Thank you very much for not trying to deceive or insult the intelligence of your viewers. The characteristically torrid SWF humidity has made the empty buildings fungus farms. These ecosystems are only going to become more diverse over time. I suspect that many of these buildings have already reached the point where repairs are not economically viable. FMB pre Ian is gone and is not coming back. I have no idea as to what the no insurance, no mortgage post Ian future holds for FMB.

Half the island have signs "FOR SALE" so probably high end developers will buy the land and build huuuuge condos (ala Gulf Shore Blvd in Naples) and some of the ones not for sale are HOAs that are stuck in a never ending fight between owners.

We lived just on the other side of the bridge, everything is gone there too. So sad to see this, we literally lived in paradise before this. Thank you for the tour

Yes, maybe too much focus on the islands while Isle of Palms, Indian Creek, Siesta Bay, Bayside Estates, Palmeto Palms, Tropicana, Davis Rd, Island Park, etc, etc were also heavily damaged

So very sad. Have been visiting FMB at least once a year since 1986 until Ian hit. It feels like a little part of my family's life has been taken away. One of the wonderful things about that island was all of the mom/pop and family-owned hotels and restaurants. Just like in Lahaina, Maui, the people of Fort Myers Beach must have the desire and determination to rebuild, or that island will be gobbled up by the likes of Marriott, Hilton and chain restaurants. I wish I was in a position to help FMB recover and fend off the blood-sucking big corporations.

I’m right there with you! We always stayed at the Outrigger for the last 38 years …… felt like home and family. Now I feel a personal loss of home and family

Outrigger has been sold for $38 million (of course the land, the motel was beyond repair) buyer is a very well-known high-rise developer so whatever comes next is not going to be anything like the old Outrigger.

I don't know why anybody would visit or live in Fort Misery beach....I have been around Ft Myers Beach since 1969....it had a draw bridge and a arch way That was built out of sea shells.collected on the beach for years and the citizens made a archway.that went over the road . Entrance to the city beach..parking free.alittle park .on the beach and the pier....You could walk out the surf .And the water wouldn't come to your knees...It was a joke...compared to the East Coast....This is the first major hit they have had in 40 years.Bored to death living at Fort Myers Beach..unless smuggling dope. Oh yeah ..big for that .1969 ...nude water ski ING at Sanibel Island.nudist colony.small one on Sanibel not Captiva...yep.good old lite house.Park on the beach in them days....lol.lol. 1969 in Ft Myers .Fla. Edison Mall yep.but the black top ended....draw bridges still.BEAUTIFUL CITY .FT MYERS .IN....1969..... HIPPIE FEAST....1969
