Running away from "wild" cows
An attempt at a hike at Hickory Swamp Preserve in SWFL. It didn't go as planned way too many cows

Fort Myers Easter Day Parade 2024
Просмотров 33Месяц назад
An 80 year tradition the always fun Fort Myers Easter Day Parade. Started as an alternative for people that were not allowed to participate in the Edison Festival of Lights Parade (yes SWFL has a deep racist history). Lots of candy for the kids, marching bands from HBCUs and cool cars
Wild Turkey Strand Preserve Hike

A hike around Wild Turkey Strand Preserve in Lee County Florida. Just minutes away from Southwest Florida International Airport this reserve sits over an old gunnery range used to train gunners for the US Army Air Forces during WWII. Some structures remain from the 1940s
Whiskey Creek Bike Lane

A look at a very old bike lane and how it still works just fine. It could be way better if replacing stop signs with mini roundabouts and adding some common areas but for SWFL standards its very good. Sadly newer developments have neglected bike infrastructure the last few decades.
Park and Ride service to Fort Myers Beach
Просмотров 1547 месяцев назад
Not a big fan of "Park and Rides" but this one works. Taking hundreds of cars from the roads (at least for a segment) can't be bad. The Park and Ride is located just off the SW corner of Summerlin and Pine Ridge (parking for about 130 vehicles), it connects with Crescent Beach (Times Square) at Fort Myers Beach. Operated by LeeTran it connects with 2 other routes at the Pine Ridge Station and f...
Fort Myers Beach: Time Square 1 year after hurricane Ian
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.8 месяцев назад
How is the slow rebuilding going in the heart of Fort Myers Beach? Time Square back to having "time" after the dedication of the new clock (old one was wiped out by the hurricane Ian) Good job to all the ones trying to get this back to normal (or whatever "normal" is going to be after that storm) Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https: //uppbeat.io/t/dan-phillipson/making-progress Lice...
Fort Myers Beach one year after hurricane Ian

Views from the North end of the island. The very slow rebuilding still going on. Some places just gave up on the insurance nightmare and are trying to sell, kudos to those who are trying like Yotaco, The Goodz, Tunaskin, Bella Mozarella, Yucatan, Cold Stone, Snug Harbor, MoJoe's, etc, etc. The beach itself is good, the dredging project going on has the water darker than it should be but is not ...
New Transfer Station / Bus Stop. Is there hope for transit?
Просмотров 359 месяцев назад
A look at the new (an old) transfer station in South Fort Myers. With the very few existing options for public transportation this is huge. Not totally sold into "park and rides" but they could work in car heavy SWFL, the problem is this park and ride has not even one parking spot (not even a handicap one). But let's keep it "glass half full" it's a step in the right direction and considering 7...

What is the problem with Roundabouts??

Roundabouts work but there is a small detail: many American drivers have no idea how to use them
One of these days Mr. Green Flash

Decent Bike Lane Estero Florida
Просмотров 3311 месяцев назад
Riding Estero Pkwy. A decent buffered bike lane that runs East to West for 2.7 miles from Ben Hill Griffin to US41. Very good at connecting different corridors, way above average for SWFL but still not a facility for all ages and abilities. The singular aspect? this is the first bike lane in the area that uses green pavement to raise awareness of the expected position of bikes GoPro 11 riding a...
Cape Coral SUN Trail Bike Lane
Просмотров 121Год назад
The Cape Coral Trail is part of the SUN Trail project a state wide network of paved trail corridors for bicyclists and pedestrians. This separated bike lane is half of the proposed lane that will go from Del Prado to Burnt Store Road but the selection criteria seems odd, very few people ride bikes in the area, the bike lane doesn’t connect to any school, park, shops, mass transit stops or big c...

Shared use path at Burnt Store Road Cape Coral
Just to let everyone know the sidewalk WILL be installed soon. I just talked to someone at Lee Tran and she said very soon as they are close to have a contractor.
Bikes and wheelchairs!
Being in a wheelchair is like, DON'T people think of us? NOPE! You cross the walkway, and you are met with GRASS. I have to go 5 MPH in my power chair and hope I don't get run over.
You are correct we keep building pieces of infrastructure that many times are not connected
Electric buses are coming in 2025!
What pp Don’t see is all the debris that has been cleaned up and on the beach. A lot has been done but not reflected in this video😊
Downtown Fort Myers looks great !
I KNOW this will comeback…every day new restaurants are opening …so is Sanibel and Cape Coral is flourishing
Hier sind Kommentare dabei die ohne Sinn und Verstand sind.
It's a long way to go for skin cancer and a Slurpy. I think I'll pass.
I guess the world doesn't really need another taco stand on the beach.
I can’t thank you enough for this video. I lived on Fort Myers Beach for years. I now live in central Florida but am about to move back down there. As upsetting as it is to see. I know the people of Fort Myers are strong and will persevere.
Yes they are and there is nothing like SWFL … we still love it!
What people?
Thank you so much for posting this. I am Canadian and have a home in Lehigh Acres. I have not been back since last March and it breaks my heart to see such devastation. I really did think that it would have been rebuilt mostly by now. So, so sad.
You did an excellent job showing everything.
It will be 20+ years before this place is pristine again...
We lived just on the other side of the bridge, everything is gone there too. So sad to see this, we literally lived in paradise before this. Thank you for the tour
Yes, maybe too much focus on the islands while Isle of Palms, Indian Creek, Siesta Bay, Bayside Estates, Palmeto Palms, Tropicana, Davis Rd, Island Park, etc, etc were also heavily damaged
no gas, cars, trucks soon - Trump WEF - you will own nothing and be happy
what a damned mess
15 Minute cities are their goal - WEF Trump - Maui and Pennsylvania - no more gas - cars, trucks, etc

I don't know why anybody would visit or live in Fort Misery beach....I have been around Ft Myers Beach since 1969....it had a draw bridge and a arch way That was built out of sea shells.collected on the beach for years and the citizens made a archway.that went over the road . Entrance to the city beach..parking free.alittle park .on the beach and the pier....You could walk out the surf .And the water wouldn't come to your knees...It was a joke...compared to the East Coast....This is the first major hit they have had in 40 years.Bored to death living at Fort Myers Beach..unless smuggling dope. Oh yeah ..big for that .1969 ...nude water ski ING at Sanibel Island.nudist colony.small one on Sanibel not Captiva...yep.good old lite house.Park on the beach in them days....lol.lol. 1969 in Ft Myers .Fla. Edison Mall yep.but the black top ended....draw bridges still.BEAUTIFUL CITY .FT MYERS .IN....1969..... HIPPIE FEAST....1969
Thank you for sharing
It‘s heartbreaking to see this. I was there in 2017 and 2019 (my best vacation).I hope, that soon FMB will be even more beautiful than before ❤
Its never recoverd 😮
So very sad. Have been visiting FMB at least once a year since 1986 until Ian hit. It feels like a little part of my family's life has been taken away. One of the wonderful things about that island was all of the mom/pop and family-owned hotels and restaurants. Just like in Lahaina, Maui, the people of Fort Myers Beach must have the desire and determination to rebuild, or that island will be gobbled up by the likes of Marriott, Hilton and chain restaurants. I wish I was in a position to help FMB recover and fend off the blood-sucking big corporations.
I’m right there with you! We always stayed at the Outrigger for the last 38 years …… felt like home and family. Now I feel a personal loss of home and family
Outrigger has been sold for $38 million (of course the land, the motel was beyond repair) buyer is a very well-known high-rise developer so whatever comes next is not going to be anything like the old Outrigger.
Pink shell's marina is back they rebuilt it
Thank You for making this video. It is heartbreaking to see this, I lived in Ft Myers and moved back to Indiana in 2001. When my mother would come visit we would go to DQ by the pier and have ice cream and watch the sunset. Again, Thank You
FINALLY, an honest and realistic video about the current status of FMB. Almost all FMB videos post Ian have been trying to sell an optimistic narrative while quickly driving by empty buildings and vacant lots. Thank you very much for not trying to deceive or insult the intelligence of your viewers. The characteristically torrid SWF humidity has made the empty buildings fungus farms. These ecosystems are only going to become more diverse over time. I suspect that many of these buildings have already reached the point where repairs are not economically viable. FMB pre Ian is gone and is not coming back. I have no idea as to what the no insurance, no mortgage post Ian future holds for FMB.
Half the island have signs "FOR SALE" so probably high end developers will buy the land and build huuuuge condos (ala Gulf Shore Blvd in Naples) and some of the ones not for sale are HOAs that are stuck in a never ending fight between owners.
The trash cans are not a photo of the homeowner. What is the fall of the garbage company because they use the machine and it just does the garbage cans down wherever they want
True, but trash pick up day is Friday and I was there on a Sunday
What are you driving man, shouldn't you be on road?
I was riding a 7 speed bicycle. There is no way I'm risking my life on that road :)
