    I see many people ask about this often...so I thought I would talk about why you should NOT keep male and female domestic betta splendens as well as males and males together. Keep your fishy friends safe in their own tank or behind a sturdy divider! :D

      Creative Pet Keeping hey I have 3 bettas temporarily in my 5 gallon tank. All of them are juveniles but the male is the oldest. The females are fine with each other but the make won't stop chasing the females around. He is in a net right now and I don't want to keep him in there and I want them to be stressed until there old enough to go in the 55 gallon. One of my female keeps getting stress stripes. Lost_ xBoy All he's doing is flaring his fins to impress the female to become mates. Unless he has a bubble nest and the female has eggs, they aren't ready to breed. It would've been better for the male to be introduced to the female so the female won't be too stressed

    Not suggesting anybody do this but when i was younger I had rescued two beta's (males) and kept them together. They lived together and lived the maximum lifespan of a Beta. Sometimes you luck out and sometimes you don't. If you cant resist yourself, pick betas that are the least aggressive to the others in the store. Dont pick the 'pretty beta' who is flaring at all the others if you dont want it to die

    ive got a young female red bettta in with a huge blue crowntail male and they are good,in a 30 gal and she takes a floating nest on one half and he keeps his nest on the other side, he is a gentleman and comes to flares to her then runs to his nest trying to get her to come into it, over and over. most of the time they just chill in their nests or and often they let the other swim around at leisure. they aint stressed any more than the lonely betta in a 1 gal, probably less since they get some social time. neither ever seems scared, if they chase, if one stops they dont nip or hit the other, they just stop and get some air then go their own way

I just tried to keep the together, and it worked. They never flare nor attack each other, (I only see them flare together at the other fish), they had sorta became friends? But sometimes, I still feel worried, but they are actually alright, great vid tho 🐠

    In some of my cases, i keep males & females together. they dont even care about each other! its like the male thinks the female is just some random fish passing by! Only in some cases, you can keep bettas together. I understand that bettas can be in high stress when kept together, but that only happens if the tank is overstocked or one fish is aggressive. But when i change my water, the male gets REALLY aggressive. is it because he was in stress and he forgot about the passing females? Or was it his natural instinct to breed during the "rainy season?" BTW, I keep my betta SPLENDENS in pairs, not sororities.

    I put my male with my 2 females because he has more of a guppy personality and I tried keeping him alone but he was way too sad so I got him some guppies and his personality started showing so I tried to experiment with the females and one female in there was more dominant than the other and the other has a guppy personality too but I still have a quarantine 20 gal just in case it doesn’t work out but they all have kept their personalities and the only difference that happened was dominance from me adding him to the female tank but it only lasted for a few minutes then they went back to normal and my bettas have been happier than they were in separate tanks.
    Yes, I knew the risks and I was more than prepared for fin nipping and attacks and I stayed up all night making sure they were fine. If anything happens in the future I have the ability to separate them.

Later planned to keep him in a 10 gallon with more few. So, bought more 2 male and 5 female Bettas. Initially they tried to fight with each other, but gradually when they established the chain of command there are no more fighting. Presently they are happily staying together.

    So, I have a quick question if that’s alright. So, I got a new female betta from Petsmart. I already had a male betta for about a year, both of which are veiltails. I got a 10 gallon tank that I put a divider into. After the female settled, I put my male into one side. I put the female in a breeding container in that same side. ( the other side was for when they finished, I had a good place for the female. And the male has lived in a 20 gallon btw. ) so I left them in over night, and when I woke up, the female was fine. I waited one more day and night to make sure. So I put the female into the tank with the male after that night. They did not really fight, the male nipped the female a little, and I knew that was normal. The female would hide in the cave, on the bottom of the tank, behind a couple rocks and plants too! All normal. So I took her out, put her in the breeding container again, and released her the next day. ( the male had a bubble nest ) so this went on for a whole week! Nothing happened. So I put the male back in the 20 gallon tank, removed the divider in the females tank, ( 10 gallons ) and decided to try again later. I still have not tried again. Now, I don’t know if it’s cause they are older bettas, or pet store bettas, but I was just wondering for if I try again. And the female did have eggs I’m quite sure, she was quite round and big near her mouth and the start of her stomach areas, with little white dots. She had breeding stripes when I released her out of the container. So, have any ideas why it wouldn’t work?
    Thanks!

    I really love your videos and follow several of you great fish youtubers. I have a question about how long to keep the breeding pair together before giving up and trying again later. I have been conditioning them for 2 weeks.. Feeding them bloodworms, brine shrimp and a mix of good pellets. I had them in a divided 10 gal tank while I conditioned them. I put him in the breeding tank first.. Then floated her for an hour or so.. Then released her. He is making a nest and flaring at her but he is not very aggressive.. And she mainly ignores him. Lol. I floated her over night last night bc I didn't want anything to happen while I was sleeping. I released her back into the tank this morning.. Gave them both bloodworms (idk if I shld but didn't want them to be hungry). I put them on opposite end of tank from nest and suck out the uneaten ones carefully. She eats like a pig but he barely eats. Breeding tank is a 5 gal filled a little more than half way. This is such a fun experience for me and my kids.. Any advice or videos you cld point me to wld be great. I've probably watched hours of footage already. Lol. Should I just leave them alone (but watching) until they spawn?

    • @CreativePetKeeping
      @CreativePetKeeping  5 лет назад

      My favorite method is to release them at night. Turn the lights off and check back early in the morning and they should start to spawn. Bettas can get easily distracted by humans so sometimes they do best when left alone for a little. If they dont get along the male or female will be hiding in the morning. It also helps to put them together on a rainy day. It makes them think its the rainy season and triggers spawning. I hope this helps!! ❤👍

      @@CreativePetKeeping Thanks for replying.. I did cover 3 sides of the tank last night and left them alone. They seem to be getting along well but I don't think the female is ready maybe. Either that or I'm intruding on them too much as I don't want to not be around if a fight breaks out. Neither of them seem overly aggressive tho. Anyway.. Hopefully they will do their thing.. We'll see.. Thanks again.

    They did what?!?! 😂 Your content is fine IMO❣️ It’s just an advancing levels of keeping bettas that’s controversial with lack of high successful rate of keepings. Most of us start off keeping a male before we advance to keeping groups years later if our interest sticks to it. Bettas are intelligent fish and they each have their own persona and wits giving their owners different levels of experiences. It really depends on the fish. Get to know the fish and you can open doors for a betta to live better in an enriching environment vs solitary. I’ve had rare keepings of a male with a sorority siblings with an establish hierchy and a female with a male in a community tank but before that they were living in a pond so lots of space. Anything is possible but it’s up to the fish. How well a fish is socialize also makes a difference. How you setup can make an impact so the bigger the tank the better. Most of us start off buying bettas in a cup bc only the big Stores carry them and it’s that way. A good number of those do not have the socialization to live in a community of any kind of tanks plus if it’s an adult already set in its way of the pet store life there’s not much you can do for it except setup single living and try to work with it. Sometimes these guys have it so bad they have no idea how to eat unless it’s a pet store pellet so it can take months before they even learn to eat live foods and get their instinct to hunt and get some meat on their bones. Living in a cup they don’t get to eat much at pet stores and they stay longer in holding for sale is the problem vs bettas in a running tank like other fishes are kept for sale. Buying bettas from small LFS that actually keeps their bettas in running tanks with other fishes is still rarely available to most hobbyists so success rates of keeping is even more unlikely for an average fish keeper starting out or staggering for years to advance in their hobby or lose interest all together. I’m not saying all big pet stores are bad bettas..I’m just saying keep in mind what conditions your fish came from and be mindful working with them. Success rates varies on multiple aspects. Fish stores that keep their bettas in tanks sells out really fast. Most of these are somewhat well socialize since they have lived with or seen other fishes and snails lol. You still need to work with them after bringing them home of course. There’s a bit of a demand so getting into this part of the hobby, know that hard core folks willing to throw down for fish will buy the whole shipment bag right out of the shipment box upon unboxing so sometimes there can be a wait for as long as a year for certain fish bc you may never see it go on sale pass the first guy.To get the pick of the spawn you have to be willing buy the whole bag right then and there and be willing to absorb dead sickness and all. So make sure you get there early on arrival day. If you do, make sure you have plenty of cycled healthy tanks ready to pull the trigger and equip to treat your own fish. Price point these stores are usually cheaper, healthier fish and best of all they have already quarantine and meds given if it made it out of unboxing. So success rates is higher for hobbyists starting out.

    But if you can’t put male and female together how do you breed them because I have a male and a female my females name is ocean and my males name is fireball and I really want to breed them together

    • @emefajiagge850
      @emefajiagge850 4 года назад

      You can breed them but it's very dangerous, if you want to I recomend doing research before throwing them in a tank together and hoping for the best, as that could go really bad and the male could end up killing the female. But it doesn't mean you can't breed them it's just kind of a whole process, so I wish you luck .

      You have to put the female in a little jar or small tank and put her (while still inside the jar or tank) inside the males tank and leave them for 2 days (the more the better) because this way the male falls in love with the female, then put the female in with the male without a divider or a jar or small tank and leave them.you should put a half of half of a styrofoam cup; so cut the cup longways and then cut half of that. Then the bettas will put the eggs there, once the eggs are there take out the female and leave the male and the male will care for the eggs and will eat the ones that don’t work, once the baby bettas are born the male will bring them to the bottom or half of the tank so they can swim up to their surface and learn how to swim (this might look like he’s eating them but trust me he’s not). Feeding the baby bettas is the hard part and you’ll have to research that.

      best way is in a bucket. i like the round shallow ones you get at the auto parts for oil changes. fill it with dechlorinated water to about half. tape a small 3x3 inch piece of bubble wrap so that it stays floating against one side of the bucket. then boil and add a few catapa or Indian almond leaves till the water turns a light tea color. put the male in. then place the female in a cup and put it down in the water so that they can see each other and get used to the idea. feed both of them live food, daphnia or baby brine shrimp. once you see the male start to create his bubble nest under the bubble wrap piece, you can release the female into the main water. keep a watch on them for the next 10 hours. once the female is finished releasing eggs, remove the female immediately, as she will eat the eggs, and the male will attack her to protect them. a few days later the eggs will hatch. leave the male in for another day or so, as he will help with babies swim and stay in the nest (it looks like hes eating them, but hes really just sucking them up and spitting them back out into the bubble nest.) once all the babies are swimming good, you can take the male out and start raising the spawn on live microfood, brine shrimp is easiest to culture but you can also grow daphina. good luck.

    Question concerning male betta tank next to female betta tank. Had female several months and before I got male she seemed 'eggy' already. First night having new male he's already made a bubble nest for his lady. I suppose mating is a future possibility as they show more interest than aggression through tank glass. But does it cause either one of them stress without a divider? I put a paper between them one night but the next morning he seemed more agitated that he couldn't see her. Don't want to be reading body language wrong.

    Hi Kasia. I have a betta health question. My male dumbo halfmoon (living solo in a heated 78 degree, 10 gallon, filtered, heavily planted, 35% weekly water change tank) has 1 eye that is really bulging. I put him in quarantine and treated him for 4 days with EM Erythromycin, followed by a 10 min epsom salt bath. His eye got worse :( He's back in his tank, eating perfectly fine. What should I do next to try to get his eye healthy again? Thank you in advance for your time and i love your videos! :)

    I would love to see a RUclipsr do a long-term experiment. The standard answer is no you can't keep multiple males and females in a single tank... But I've seen videos here and there where people have kept about a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio of females to males and have been successful. It seems like larger tanks do better.

    My betta is a veil tale and he will not even tolerate the nerite snails in the tank with him. He will hit them hard enough to knock them over and try to kill them. He seems to understand that he can knock them upside down and eat them. He was trying to eat their shell, but that didn't work out for him. I'm not sure how I'm going to keep algae down, but he does not allow anything in his tank but his live plants that he loves. Granted, once I realized he did that I took the snails out immediately and now have to find the snails a new home.

    Hey 1 question about my betta fish i have a 15 gallon tank of 30 or so better fry first time breeding(1 month old) and i have breed another pair and are free swimming for now 2 days whilst the other betts are 1 month old can i put the small bettas with the 15 gal tank or would the other fry eat the smaller fry. What do I do?

    • @CreativePetKeeping
      @CreativePetKeeping  6 лет назад +1

      It depends on their size but most likely they will eat the smaller fry as well as stunt the smaller fry with the growth inhibiting hormone. Its best to give each growing out spawn as much room as possible.

    • @CreativePetKeeping
      @CreativePetKeeping  6 лет назад

      In the 5 gal I think he would be just fine with his snail friends. As soon as you start adding more fish..the tank will become more work to maintain. So I think it's best to keep it simple ^_^
