I wasn't interested in the PRX until I saw one in person. They had them in the watch shop on a cruise ship. I was impressed in person. I bought one in blue and love wearing it as a casual sports watch. It is really amazing how it catches light and sparkles in both artificial and sunlight.

Couldn't agree more! I bought matching green dial quartz PRX's for my wife and I - hers is the 35mm and mine 40mm. Even though I own Rolex, Tudor and multiple Omegas, the PRX gets worn 2-3X a month. Further, it's the only watch that I've gotten compliments on in the last year from complete strangers. Great review Fed.

Totally agree. I got the 40mm blues dial for $450 on sale. High accuracy, 1-3 sec fast per day, got 88 hours on reserve test. Great watch. I also brought the quart version on leather strap.

I bought the Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium 18K Yellow Gold, leather strap, which is the cousin of this PRX. It's accurate to within 1 second per day. I get compliments on it all the time. At this price, you cannot touch these two Tissot watches in looks or Swiss level quality, especially for everyday wear. Thanks for the great review. Agree 100%.

Great review. I have a couple Tudors, several Omegas, Grand Seiko, Breitling, Nomos, etc. I also have the white dial PRX Powermatic 80. I wear it a lot. It’s such a fun watch and looks great on the wrist.
I love it so much, I have the Ice Blue dial version on order. 100% agreed if this watch said Longines on the dial, it would be $2K.
Hard to go wrong with a PRX

I just got the 40mm blue quartz with alligator leather strap delivered this week...and am honestly blown away by the quality. Getting this for $250.00 is practically a steal. Got quartz as this will not be a daily driver...but rather a grab and go piece for going out to dinner/bars when I don't want to wear some of my more valuable pieces. Fits the collection role perfectly! Thanks for doing this review Fed!

Love the look and feel of my PRX, for all the reasons Fed discussed. One thing he didn't mention was accuracy. Maybe I got a good one, but it runs steady as a rock at -3s a day. Great looks, great spec, and COSC accuracy for $675? It's an insane deal.

I think the in factory laser regulation of the Powermatic 80 movements is just that good. Mine runs consequently at -/- 2 sec/day, whether I wear it or not, and many reviewers report similar performances. Nice review! It's good to hear others who have access to top-tier brands yet acknowledge unattainability isn't everything. As you say, it's vg value for money. I've the same movement in a Certina Big Date CS-1 60th anniversary. I've just ordered the gold 40mm version that echoes the AP Royal Oak. I could buy an AP copy but I don't like fakes or what they represent.
If you get over watch snobbery, and the price bonanza fuelled by flipping (thankfully perhaps coming to an end), there are some great mainstream watches around. I leave aside microbrands that are also often terrific value for money. These other brands, often steeped in history even if now in modern and multigroup ownership, look smart and are v fairly priced since they have to rely on attraction to people who don't have deep pockets and so quality, design and price count for everything. It's lovely to see the watch industry resurgence and to see so much accessible choice.

@@dannysimenauer5745 these are mass produced movements so if it needs servicing or has stopped working, Tissot will replace the whole movement instead of replacing worn parts.

I don't think this is strictly true. If nothing is broken in the movement and it just needs a basic service (disassemble, clean parts, reassemble w/ correct lubrication) I don't see what would stop a watchmaker from doing that. If you need to replace a part, then you may need to send it back to Tissot.

I heard that the newer Powermatic 80 movements can be serviced unlike the early Powermatic 80s, but it's the way that they are regulated from the factory is what the problem is

The design is simply not my thing. And the only watch that in my opinion that designed well with a bracelet is the Royal Oak.

    The plastic escapement is unregulatable.

    • @peakrider4886
      @peakrider4886 Год назад +4

Not sure what you’re referring to here but you don’t regulate the escapement on auto watches it is the balance wheel that can be adjusted to speed up or slow down. These Powermatic movements are free sprung balance movements hence the lack of regulation arm but they can be regulated by a watchmaker by adjusting the weights on the balance wheel.

Peakrider is right. Regulating these does require more care, but at least you don't need a special tool as you do with Rolex. A free-sprung balance is actually a feature, but ease of regulation is something you do give up with it.

I know I am in the minority, but the Tissot PRX does nothing for me. Looks wholly uninteresting. The case and bracelet "finishing" looks bad and rough. The caseback is a snapback? It's a great value from a bigger brand, but it's not checking the right boxes for me.

Tell me you haven't handled it without telling me you haven't handled it. Looks are subjective but the bracelet finishing is absolutely top notch.

Its amazing value and look cool…the only issue for me is, the 40mm is too big, not just case size but the dial is too big and a lot of negative space…if they reduced the size to about a 38mm it would be perfection
