I recently spoke to someone (a preacher in a local church) who is believes the bible is "the true word of god". BUT there are sections he does not believe are true. In my opinion that means he cannot and truly should not be making that claim.
I guess I'm in the minority. I've never seen any compelling evidence that Jesus existed. Just like everything else in the bible, he's a storybook character. Do people also think Sherlock Holmes or Peter Pan were real?
Peter Pan was Transgendered ! , because I once saw a woman' nylon stocking commercial in which Peter/Petra Pan was flying on high dressed in his/her customary short costume , but wearing seamed nylon stockings and no shoes ! , with a pretty lady's face.
It’s amazing what 2000 years of fan-fiction can do for your credibility. Seriously, the Gospels read like a cross between a Marvel comic book and a rejected Harry Potter episode.
As a child I could not stand reading novels/fiction. I loved science and history articles, i could appreciate news articles. Hell, I even read a physiology text book one summer for fun. This explains why I was never compelled to read the bible. I don't like magicians either. I am not entertained by deception. On the 12 step thing, I finally quit abusing myself when I "let go of god". That s#it just caused shame and guilt, it is so harmful.
Is it too much to ask to get Mything in Action Vols 1-3 on audiobook? I've "read" both of Fitzgerald's other books in audio form. How long will it take before I can do the same with these ones?
I had a premise for a story that I think would make a great movie. Like Fitzgerald, my story involves a time traveller who is searching for the historical Jesus. In this case my main character is a firm believer. He goes back to the appropriate time and place but is distraught when he finds no Jesus. He then sets about preaching the sermons he knows from the gospels and with his modern knowledge is able to perform what seems like miracles. He ends up getting arrested and crucified. His time travel machine automatically transports him back to the future after 3 days in his tomb.
@@somewhatinformed1208 What are you babbling about? I don't believe in or care about "scripture" -we are talking about history and naive people who listen to amateurs like Fitzgerald.
I noticed the abruptness of the Jesus passage in Josephus when I first read it in my late twenties. It was an obvious abrupt interruption. The Passage would not have suffered any loss had the statement about the Christ not been there at all. I quit school in the eighth grade and that was obvious. Bible students who encounter this, be honest. That statement in Josephus is not at all necessary for the flow of the passage. Burn.

Big fan, can't wait to read it! Hey David, when are you guys coming down here again for EFBC fundraising? I would love to coordinate another heathen support troop...
I too am one who believes that if there ever was a walking talking Jesus, that guy is forever lost in history. At 29:40 I think David doesn't quite say enough about Robert Price's position when he quotes Price saying that everything we have about Jesus cannot be connected to a historic Jesus. Price has made it clear that the force of his argument centers on the inability to establish justification and warrant for believing both the reliability of the evolved, traditional writings as well as the connections. Also Price has handily shown that the OT is the source for all the Gospel's narrative and Paul's supposed "authentic epistles" are a second century work of Marcion and the Marcionite School.
I believe that Jesus was a real person just as much as I believe that Achilles or Odysseus or Beowulf were real. The evidence for each is about the same.
27:23 Something like this actually happened to a priest called John Ball. He was imprisoned because he preached that all humans are equal, or that at least nobles weren't any better than common peasants. Not a popular message in Medieval England.
Excellent point that the "risen" Jesus was resurrected in the state in which he died. In a similar vein, it struck me that my religious fanatic siblings are looking forward to being reunited with our granny in heaven, but presumably they are expecting to meet a wheelchair-bound old lady, crippled with arthritis and dementia. I wonder if granny was hoping to end up in heaven like that!
It caused cognitive dissonance with early Christians. When they asked basically, how will our rotted bodies be raised from the dead? Who wants to live forever in that condition? Early Christian preachers had to quickly cover up that gaffe with "god will give you new bodies!" which still caused problems when Jesus' body supposedly disappeared. Er, why didn't he leave his body behind if god was going to give him a new one?
Even if he Did exist he looked nothing like the Image on the milk Carton,He was a Middle Eastern Man,Look at People in the Middle East today that's how he would have looked,Images of Jesus have been created to be more appealing to Western eyes

I don't really understand the arguments against comparing Jesus to Horus, people are acting as if that wasn't just one example of many incredibly similar prophet figures spanning many religions. Zeitgeist didn't just say "yeah, Jesus was actually Horus"
Btw, it was very uncommon for Roman governors to bring their legal wives with them to their provinces when assigned to them. Pilate's wife might have tagged along, but that's a highly suspect claim. It was considered bad form to take your wife with you to the provinces, a tradition that carried over from the Republic. A very dangerous province like Judea would be even less likely to have the governor's wife tag along.
I find the whole argument kinda pointless. If there was a man behind the myth then that man was so far removed and different from the stories that they might as well be about someone else. Was the first christian cult leaders name Jesus (or Joshua, Jeshua, whatever), that's what this all comes down to.
The first Christian Church or the first See of Christianity was the Hagia Sophia 532 to 537 commissioned by Justinian and Theodora, built and designed by Africans, in Istanbul Turkey. The first printed Hebrew bible to come into existence was in 1475 The first printed New Testament came out in 1516 written by Desiderius Erasmus known as the Novum Instramentum.

To have a 50/50 chance one of the statements must be true like the flip of a coin, if neither are true there is 0 chance for both. You could say there is 33.3% chance that jesus or mohammad or neither are the saviour of mankind (but lets not ignore the thousands of other saviours claimed in history). But regardless of chance evidence shows all so called prophets are false.
Jesus's teachings mostly align very well with the Pharisees of the House of Hillel, but the time in which he is presumed to have been teaching was during the short period when the other Pharisees from the House of Shammai were dominant. Shammai's followers were more legalistic and more prone to hypocrisy.
I had to high five my youngest daughter, she was about 13 and some religious people knocked on the door. They asked her if she'd found Jesus and without missing a beat she replied yes, he was behind the sofa the whole time, who'd have thought. Lol
Many believe that the bible is infallible, as it is the word "of god", this is obviously not true for several reasons: First, the bible was written by multiple authors and its contents were approved in two Councils: The Synod of Hippo (383), and of Carthage (397) - to determine which were the documents that were to be integrated into the Bible, in order to consolidate the Roman Empire that needed a political, religious and territorial unity, to maintain his power. It was the ecclesiastical authorities of the time who decided which books were to constitute the Bible, and which were to be excluded, obviously taking into account their own interests. Second, there are many contradictions in the bible, for example: see Genesis 6:19 versus Genesis 7: 1-3 is Noah told to board alone or with the animals?; see 2 Samuel 24:1 versus 1 Chronicles 21:1 is it the devil or is it God who gives you the instructions? Regarding the death of Judas, he committed suicide by hanging himself Matthew 27: 5-6 or had an accident in Acts 1: 18-19. In Exodus 20:13 versus Leviticus 20: 9, the commandment is established not to kill, or does God command you to kill? This evidently indicates that who wrote the Bible were not perfect beings, or omnipotent, or omniscient, or omnipresent, if not, they would not have made all these mistakes. Third, the Bible make crimes apologies and at the same time, incites to the crime of public stoning for using divination or spiritism see Leviticus 20:27, for not being a virgin see Deuteronomy 22:20-21, for being an adulterer see Deuteronomy 22:22 and Leviticus 20:10, makes the apology for rape see Genesis 19:6; of human sacrifice see Judges 11:30-39; of slavery Exodus 21, Leviticus 25:44-46, Ephesians 6:5-9, Titus 2:09; of the rapture: Numbers 31:35, Deuteronomy 20:10-13; to slaughter, child and animal abuse 1 Samuel 15:2, Joshua 6:21-27 and the list would be very long. This indicates that this book could be used for good or evil, depending on interpretation. Fourth, its application is too discretionary, it depends on who reads or interprets the Bible, their opinion, their mental state, their general knowledge, their prejudices, beliefs, analytical skills, etc., which leaves a great margin for subjectivity, manipulation and error. All this, place the person at the mercy of the priest, pastor, or ecclesiastical authority, giving him too much power over his beliefs, his behaviors, his understanding and his life. Fifth, it must be concluded that the woman and man of the 21st century cannot be literally guided by this book reconstructed some 1700 years ago, when science and general knowledge were in their infancy, and where ignorance and prejudice predominated, caused by fear of the unknown. Many people forget that the apostle men did not know how to read and write. Many were fisher men whose life is fishing and they were not educated. How can you write a book when you do not know how to write. Also the stories were supposed to have been written 60 to 70 years after Jesus death. If I tell a story today, the story will be different 60 years from now. Many stories were told by word of mouth.
Yes sir, and I just came across something very interesting yesterday. Jesus quotes the Apocrypha in the book of Matthew; It is largely thought that the Apocryphal books of the "original" cannon were removed for "good cause" (that perhaps they we not the inspired word of the Lord God). However, the Geneva bible of 1560 and the King James 1611 the book Matthew, chapter 23 and verse 37 has margin notes referring to the book of Esdras, thereby confirming the validity of this book and perhaps the many of the other apocryphal texts that have been removed over time. What's more, is Jesus is predicted in 2 Esdras, the 7th chapter and verses 26-29. Conveniently, these margin notes are absent in nearly all other modern versions. What do these books contain that would threaten the power structure and challenge the status quo? You might even say there is a "conspiracy" to hide the truth. The coolest part is, I was able to confirm it with my 1611. I've heard that the original cannon had 88 books, but I've also heard there may be up to 50 texts that where excluded over time. The 1611 has 14 extra books more than the standard 66 book cannon, totaling in 80 books. So if you add the acts of Peter, Tomas, Paul, John and Andrew, you get 85. Then throw in Enoch (which was also quoted by the apostles), the book of Judas, and I've heard rumors of a book of Mary; that would make 88 if it exists... Very good Seth has the voice that gets and keeps your attention.
Very interesting podcast/interview Seth and David !
Peter Pan is not real?
@@russellbrooks23able that can't be true. I've seen his peanut butter.
Peter Pan was Transgendered ! , because I once saw a woman' nylon stocking commercial in which Peter/Petra Pan was flying on high dressed in his/her customary short costume , but wearing seamed nylon stockings and no shoes ! , with a pretty lady's face.
"Jesus has to come back, because he didn't get it right the first time." - Christopher Hitchens -
Interview starts at about 8:50 mins.
Geesh! Thank you so much!!
This topic is one of many reasons i became an atheist.it came to the point of I didn't know what to believe anymore.
Selective skepticism.
My favorite Easter treat is Cadbury Easter Cream Eggs...
Argument from Imbecility.
You again. Why don't you listen to/read real scholars instead of amateurs like Fitzgerald?
@@themaskedman221 "real scholars" like who? You pea-brained dope.
@@themaskedman221 Because it matters to you who quotes scripture from the same book.
@@somewhatinformed1208 What are you babbling about? I don't believe in or care about "scripture" -we are talking about history and naive people who listen to amateurs like Fitzgerald.
stuff like this never gets old...truth and facts dont change over time, thats why ^^ We simply get MORE truth and facts if we keep following the trail

Burn.

"Bullshit is the enemy" ... says it all really.
That's because you're historically illiterate.
27:23 Something like this actually happened to a priest called John Ball. He was imprisoned because he preached that all humans are equal, or that at least nobles weren't any better than common peasants. Not a popular message in Medieval England.
"Wishing people into the cornfield."!!!! BAAAHAAAA!😂🤣
Apparently, the donation campaign in the description is still active. Please donate ;)
So sorry for your loss of a friend. ❤

I found that using the twelve steps that people's lives became all about NA/CA/AA. It's replacing one addiction for another, admittedly a less destructive addiction but an addiction nonetheless. Just my opinion.
Which book is David Fitzgerald referring to when he says there is a book about how the various canons were decided at about minute 26?
I don't really understand the arguments against comparing Jesus to Horus, people are acting as if that wasn't just one example of many incredibly similar prophet figures spanning many religions. Zeitgeist didn't just say "yeah, Jesus was actually Horus"
12 step program is what snapped my brain into this journey of atheism.

Good point!
I find the whole argument kinda pointless. If there was a man behind the myth then that man was so far removed and different from the stories that they might as well be about someone else. Was the first christian cult leaders name Jesus (or Joshua, Jeshua, whatever), that's what this all comes down to.
I've heard "money changers" mentioned before. Was this not also involving the slaughter of animals in the church (basement)?
The first Christian Church or the first See of Christianity was the Hagia Sophia 532 to 537 commissioned by Justinian and Theodora, built and designed by Africans, in Istanbul Turkey.
The first printed Hebrew bible to come into existence was in 1475
The first printed New Testament came out in 1516 written by Desiderius Erasmus known as the Novum Instramentum.
Jesus in greek translates to savior and Christ means messiah. Who names their kid savior messiah?

bonnie43uk its plagiarized from a Robert Asprin book series
Really? The exact same title? (No.) You can't plagiarize or copyright a THEME... ;)
It's spelled "lithp".
Incorrect. Many, MANY books, movies, plays, songs, paintings and poems share TITLES. That is NOT plagiarism. "Plagiarism" is a legal term that refers to taking entire works or the ideas behind works and copying them. Titles are NOT included in this.
It was Moses who had to keep his hands up for the Israelites to win.
Wait , what about the atmosphere and jet stream and Aquafirs ??
theres a fifty fifty chance that jesus or mohammad is the savior of mankind, but theres a one hundred percent chance that both theroies are wrong.
Have your videos been demonetized??
Jesus's teachings mostly align very well with the Pharisees of the House of Hillel, but the time in which he is presumed to have been teaching was during the short period when the other Pharisees from the House of Shammai were dominant. Shammai's followers were more legalistic and more prone to hypocrisy.
How dare anyone talk badly about my lord and savior...PEEPS!!!!
I had to high five my youngest daughter, she was about 13 and some religious people knocked on the door. They asked her if she'd found Jesus and without missing a beat she replied yes, he was behind the sofa the whole time, who'd have thought. Lol

Many believe that the bible is infallible, as it is the word "of god", this is obviously not true for several reasons:
First, the bible was written by multiple authors and its contents were approved in two Councils: The Synod of Hippo (383), and of Carthage (397) - to determine which were the documents that were to be integrated into the Bible, in order to consolidate the Roman Empire that needed a political, religious and territorial unity, to maintain his power.

Thank you for this, it's very concise and informative.
How did David know better than the Bible or Roman archive?
I remember as a kid when some people (including my family!) would have a little ivory-colored plastic Jesus to place on the dashboard of their cars. Some people had a little plastic Virgin Mary statuette
on their car dashboard. These plastic figurines were to protect people when driving.
13:35 what's the name of the author he mentions? "Raphael Lazador"?
As Sully would say, _Oh. My. God._
The best evidence for evolution is the Bible itself.
I have to ask, was the title In any way inspired by the series of books written by Robert Aspirin?
I want to call in to the show but I also don't want to wake up that early.
I have ZERO interest in disabusing Christians OR Muslims, Jews, or anyone else who finds strength in their faith. In fact, I wish them happiness ! ... Just keep 'em out of Politics - the LAST thing the World needs is yet another Theocracy !

The Amazing Atheist, now TJ Kirk, is claming that the word Atheist is considered a "hate word" according to RUclips's new policy of what should be in a RUclips account name. Is this true? He changed his name from The Amazing Atheist to TJ Kirk and tried changing his name back to The Amazing Atheist but it wouldn't let him.
Is there maybe a "only one change in X days" policy active instead of certain words being taboo?
The help says if you change too often you may have to wait until the third last change (including the activation of a google+ account) is at least 90 days past. I don't know if he only had the two names (the amazing atheist and TJ Kirk, but if he maybe had a misspelled attempt in between them and had to join google+ to get the name changed in the first place that COULD make 3 "changes" as RUclips counts them.
You Tube newer policies are messing everyone up. I keep seeing videos on this.
Urs F, TJ said the message he got said the title he tried didn't meet youtube's standards. He could be lying, but that's what he claims it said.
@Urs F, that sounds more like it.
Jolly Joel
I hate to say it, but I think he's lying a bit. Money makes people do stuff like that.
Prior to listening, I thought “Mything” was a typo. I thought the title was intended to read “My thing in Action”. 🤔🤪
Speaking of “lost gospels” did you know that there was a gospel of Judas?
