Thousands of beachgoers visit Bondi Beach every day and every one of them has a phone and a bag. Bondi's lifeguards must keep their eyes on the water and on the sand in order to catch the roaming thieves. Sometimes leaving our lifeguards on wild chases, sometimes in near bust ups - these #thievescaught more than they bargained for when they decided to steal at Bondi.

Bondi Rescue follows the work of the elite professional Lifeguards who patrol Australia’s busiest beach. This is Australia’s real life Baywatch! Taking the viewers on their journey through mass rescues, drownings, resuscitations, shark sightings, and all number of the weird and wonderful experiences Bondi Beach dishes up.
In ‘Bondi Rescue’ the audience sees the action through the eyes of real characters and lifeguards like Hoppo, Deano, Reidy, Jesse, Maxy, Whippet and Harries, as they catch thieves, perform CPR, make drug busts, break up fights, and even handle a navy bomb that washes ashore one afternoon. I'm amazed at how these guys never seem to lose their patience. Not with drunken people, with parents who don't watch their kids, with people who can't swim and with people committing crimes. So chill. It's impressive.

I've seen one of the guys loose their shit over people that kept swimming in the dangerous end of the beach and predictably needed to be rescued. it felt so justified cos so many forget that these guys are emergency responders 😐
Such a contrast from American cops!! I know they are lifeguards but their patience and empathy is so commendable. They treat everyone, even the perps, as humans while still giving them adequate punishments.

He could have put him in cuffs and arrested him but he gave that young man a chance to own up, show an understanding for his wrong doings while still cleary wanting to help him. (Looking him in the eyes, not raising his voice but still being stern, just like a father) Sometimes the best help is a figurative swift kick in the a$$.

They escaped charges likely because when the parents were present they realised "oh damn, this kid is going to get absolutely bollocked by his parents" which I'm gonna guess works a lot better than giving him a record and excluding him from decent opportunities. Same in Ireland

It can be hard to feel sympathy for something who has done the wrong thing and then acted like that.

That one kid, getting upset and crying was hilarious! He wasn't crying when they were all stealing, so I can't feel sorry for him. If you're grown up enough to steal, you're grown up enough to deal with the consequences of your actions. It's a life lesson for those kids; hopefully they won't do it again.

Haha. These lifeguards admitted they hate thieves and OF COURSE wants to catch them to make the beach a safer and better place to be. TRUST is a fragile thing and very important to people who very often leave their belongings unguarded. The nuance you hear is conformity to political correctness because some of the thieves happened to have a darker skin color (which means institutional privilege are afforded them to make up for largely imagined oppression), even if this entails playing pretend that the thieves they catch are sometimes justified to steal just to survive.

When i vacationed at Bondi, I watched Lifeguards grab a thief, dude knocked the lifeguard down, and ran straight toward me. So I just clotheslined him to the sand, and dropped my knee on his chest, nearly 300 lbs on ones chest tends to take the fight out of anyone. Guards came with police, thanked me, and took the miscreant away, Bondi is a great place to enjoy a nice day, and watch people.

The young lad who was part of a gang was big and tough when caught but he quickly crumbled when the cops arrived. Having to be told to wipe your tears away before being walked out was priceless to witness. Kids. (eyeroll)

Seeing the amount of bag thieves that roam the beach I'm surprised that Bondi police don't haven't set up a task force and use bait bags in order to attract and catch the culprits.
I wish we also able to throw our backpack on the beach and go swimming. The trustworthy of this beach and more around the world are golden.

This might be me living in United States of America for 8 years, and in no way do I want to undervalue you’re opinion, but I personally believe that people should go to law school to formally arrest, but yes, life guards should have the right to restrain people until authorities arrive. I wish cops in America went to law school :(

Kid deserves to be charged with assault because he attacked the life guard, and even threatened the folks who recorded him being apprehended. Violent, criminal snot needs to be taught a hard lesson before he continues down this path in life. I wonder if his parents helped him with an attitude adjustment, or if they ignored his problem.
