When my friend passed away at almost 100 I found that her family has thrown her recipe book in the trash and retrieved it. As she had been a friend of my own grandmother's I was thrilled to have this book and spent hours going through all the recipes. Included was a recipe cut out from a magazine asking readers to write in and name the orange rolls before May 31st 1939. I think it actually the original "orange roll recipe". I grew up with both my grandmother and mother making these wonderful rolls. I'd be happy to share the "original" recipe from 1939. I love this channel. It makes me feel like I'm back at grandma's house having tea in elegant surroundings.
Sorry for your loss. Thank God you were able to retrieve the cookbook. This is memory of her and to keep her close to your heart. My only regret is not writing a recipe my dad used to make. My favorite fried sweet potato dumplings. I have watched him do this in my youth but I never wrote it down. I remembered a couple ingredients but that’s it. I have this memory in my heart. When learning from someone in the kitchen please jot them down. Down the road you may forget and it will not be the same.
I absolutely love these videos. All of my favorite things all wrapped into luxurious moments of relaxation. A grand historic home, glorious floral arrangements, food and the occasional tour outside. Absolutely fabulous!
Me too!❤It all started out on a search for high tea sandwiches, and I found his video. Since then, I've been binge watching him until I finish ALL of his videos! I love listening to him talk, teach and play the piano; I love watching him cook and bake; AND I love following him outside to the garden, on day trips and working around the house. I really love the pup and kitties, especially when they pop up in the videos. I also love his wonderfully calm demeanor and his sweet charm. Mr. Kevin is the BEST!!! ❤❤❤
I appreciate how you take your time, that makes it easier to follow. Your graciousness adds to the zen of the orange rolls, and everything that you present.
My mom was a great cook. She always had us kids by her side cooking with her. I was blessed with a talented and generous mother. And will be eternally grateful for everything she taught me. 🌟💙👵💙🌟
I know exactly what you are talking about, I also helped my mom cook, and I'm truly grateful for her, relatives always tell me that I cook just like my mom used to cook, she has gone to heaven almost 7 years ago 😭
Oh, citrus juice tip: Cut the fruit in half per usual. Take a fork, or small sharp knife. Make several stabs, or little slices into the flesh of the fruit, but do not cut through the skin of the fruit. Then, squeeze the juice out. It is much easier. I love all your stories you tell, too.
I can not wait to try these. Thank you Kevin for all of the information on kneading. I was really wanting my screen to be a scratch & sniff. I love orange. Be safe!
Made this recipe a while back and the rolls were fantastic! Everyone loved them. So today, I made this recipe with lemons instead of oranges for an experiment because I didn't have any oranges. Can't wait until they come out of the over and I frost them. Yes, I would come over for a game of Bridge. Been a long time since I played.
I’m sure these Orange rolls are 100 times better than the ones in a can. I can’t wait to make these. If we don’t watch it someone is going to have roll us out after quarantine.
Kevin, you are so lucky your Mother allowed you in the kitchen to help her with her recipes, children can learn so much about cooking , thank you for sharing your recipe with us, I know the orange rolls will be delicious.
I just love all your videos Kevin. 😊Your voice is very soothing, and I can see you really enjoy what you are filming. The tips and information you share are so helpful! Thanks so much! I really appreciate it! Say hi to Mr Fox for me. 😊
Hi Kevin! I am watching this today, Nov. of 2022. I hear you say: “Who am I kidding - no one is coming tonight!”. Yes. Days of longing, days of boredom, days of ennui, days of despair…. Thankfully, they are mostly over (not that COVID is gone). But the days of quarantine also brought lesson in invective, in self reliance, in learning that solitude can be a sweet companion. And I found new lovely friends in the internet, including you and the elusive Mr Fox. 😊 Keep well my friend.
I'm not a cook ... mostly because I am a very plain eater, so I don't like recipes that are full of ingredients I've never heard of and/or flavors I do not like. I love that the recipes in many of your videos I've watched so far contain such recognizable ingredients and familiar flavors! Thank you! You've inspired me to try some cooking and baking!
Can I just say I love your more relaxed manner when you were filming alone. NOT criticizing the present format, love your work with Lizette! But the Pandemic Kevin was a guy I could definitely have a beer or glass of wine with. The line " you can't screw up these rolls" made me laugh my friend. It was a real "hair down" moment and I absolutely loved it ❤
no wonder after the big "c" and all these great sweets you needed to get a home gym!!! your work outs and dedication to just doing something like walking has made me get out and do more!!! thank you kevin for just being you!!!
Seeing new content by you is the highlight of my quarantine routine (much better than watching the stat counters click up, up, up). We'll be making these for Easter Monday.
Definately loved this video. I got to cook at an early age because of a wonderful mother also. I remember standing on a chair to reach the table and stove top
i was but i wasn't --as a health care worker at the time i still was expected to show up an do my job--did end up getting the "c" even with all the protective equipment--out for 14 days -- took months to totally get rid of it--thankfully i am retired now--so i do not have to deal with it all!!--so i will enjoy this dessert and not have to worry about the bs at work!!! thank you kevin!!!
Zen-Like (aside from kneading dough :) also applies to watching these videos. Really helps de-stress. I also love to watch the videos on excursions, visits, shopping, etc. It's all interesting and fun to come along for the ride.
They look so beautiful and so delicious. I and my neighbor we are watching this and you are a great encouragement and a great teacher and we love you . We love Tiger also . Thank You .
💡Such a imaginative idea using the orage filled buns, everyone does the same old cinnamon buns.... Boringggg this twist really encourages me to make some. Thank you Kevin 👌🇿🇦😉
OH YUM !!! You give me the courage to try making yeast dough again. I have never been able to master it in the past. But after watching you in this video I'm going to try again. Thank You! Always look forward to your videos. I'm dying to try your Blueberry pie this summer when the Berries are plentiful. Stay safe.🌟🌟🌟
Hi Kevin, I baked the Sweet Orange Rolls the second time They are out of the oven right now with the glaze now on top. It smells sooooo…… good I wish i could send you a picture. Thank you so much for the recipe I will make it over and over again. Best wishes 🌴🐝
Oh my gosh those look SO good! I always make cinnamon rolls, but I will definitely have to make orange ones! I appreciate how thorough you are with explaining the instructions in your cooking videos! Thank you☺️
I wish I was there too! Those look delicious. My mom used to make us Carmel, sweet, and yes, sometimes she would switch things up and make orange rolls. She was a morning person, and would have them baking in the oven right about the time the rest of us were waking up on a weekend morning. At Christmas time she would make into a wreath shape that she called English Tea Ring. I have seen where people arrange the unbaked rolls into a tree shape, which after baking resembles a Christmas tree. Fun. Thank you for showing us how to make.🍊
Kevin, I have learned so much from watching your videos! How to clean my stove/stove top (I kid you not) I bought Simple Green & Bar Keeper’s Friend. From kneading bread to making pie crust and afternoon tea. So many recipes to try. Your home & garden is so beautiful! Thank you so much!
Dear Kevin, no wonder you make it look so easy, you are so experienced since you started cooking at a very young age. I love the way you smack that dough down on the marble slab. You go man! I can tell you love cooking, it comes through every time! Thanks for sharing, i so appreciate all your tips. ❤
I’m a 54 year old feller from Michigan living with my daughter for the heck of it taking care of her house and renting out mine. I’m making her and her two daughters dinner rolls tonight with the chicken dinner she’s cooking for us. Might even make up a loaf of bread. I’m using all purpose flour though. Still is very easy and ummmmmgood. She has some oranges so I might make this tomorrow for us all. I’m gonna get the kids to help me make some easy Peazzzy chocolate fudge tomorrow
Hi Kevin, I’m absolutely making these! I think the last time I had orange rolls was 30 years ago and they were out of a can 😂 I just made your delicious Italian bread today so tomorrow I’ll be making these. I so enjoy your videos, you make me smile❤
I love orange rolls and have only had the ones from the market. I’m definitely making these, it will be a surprise too for my son. I’ve made the chocolate garbanzo been recipe a couple times, but made it as cupcakes. Everyone loves them. I froze a batch and pull out what I want for later. Thank you for the recipes.
I discovered your videos about three weeks ago, and look forward to seeing one each day…well, maybe more than one. 😊 I loved this one particularly because of your positive “keep going” attitude, in spite of the challenges that arose during the filming. In general, I love that you and Mr. Fox are living a life that you enjoy, and are willing to share it with others. Thank you for your videos.
I Love All Of Your Videos & I Have Other Family Members Also Happy Watching Your Time At Your Home. I Want To Make These Rolls So Bad, Right Now But I Need An Orange 🍊 ! Take Care Kevin, Love You 👍🥳🥰
Love these! Thank you and glad my kitchen is not the only one where things mess up! Thank you for the printed recipe....it was fun scribbling down as you said it...and then finding a printed version. Silly me, must by Monday at my house. Oh, wait, it is. Anyway, keep up the yummy work.
Hi Kevin. I made these today, and they really turned out well. Just delicious like you promised. I only used half of the orange glaze, and found that to be enough. I will probably use the the other half when I make these again with the other half of the dough. I would really like to make cinnamon rolls with this dough. Should I just sprinkle cinnamon and sugar and walnuts before rolling, and then do a confectioners sugar glaze after baking? Your method of using a ruler really helped me when rolling the dough. I have never commented before but I must say I have made many of your recipes over the years, and really enjoy and learn from your gardening posts as well . I appreciate all the loving care you have given to your beautiful house. And I love seeing your animals. You should be very proud of your contribution to making life better for so many. The quarantine gave me the extra time to make the orange rolls today as well as the time to thank you for your website. Thanks for all your wisdom and good cheer. Lynn Murphy, Gloucester, MA
Hi Lynn - Thanks so much for your kind comment! To make the cinnamon rolls, first spread the rolled out dough with softened butter. Then mix cinnamon and sugar together, and sprinkle over the butter. Roll up and slice as for the Sweet Orange Rolls. Enjoy!
morning kevin! oh wow chewy gooey warm orange yumminess. if i was in new york maybe we could gather more folks play canasta!! and have orange roll ups!!!! 😙😙😙😙😙😙😙god bless.
Kevin these orange rolls look amazing!! I can't have citrus, cause I'll get migraine, but these rolls are worth getting migraine lol, I would definitely eaten 5 of it myself 😁😁
Thank you so much for the video and recipe! I am always so grateful to you AND for you, in that you take the time to TEACH us how to properly prepare the ingredients and make the dish. Here, you actually show and teach us how to knead the dough using the correct techniques. I would venture to say that most bakers never do more than just say knead the dough and assume we know what we are doing. Your instruction has given me confidence to be better at baking, and at cooking. Cinnabon has nothing on you. Your sweet orange rolls look amazing and are beautiful! Almost too pretty to eat! But I'm hungry! Let's eat!! Thank you again! Enjoy your rolls and the rest of your day! 🙏💖😋
Hello! This looks fantastic. You are my new favourite channel. I'm new to baking and I like that you don't make perfectly looking things, but they still turn out looking and tasting great. It gives me hope for my own baking. I look forward to trying to make these. :D God bless you. Have an awesome day! :D
Hello Kevin, Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe. I have always wanted to try baking with yeast but I have been afraid to try. This clear, step by step video gas encouraged me to try.
These look absolutely delicious. I will definitely being making these. I’ve made several of your dishes and my family and friends have loved them. I have your cookbook in my Amazon cary. ❤
Hello Kevin, I have to smile watching you making orange rolls. You seemed a “ little “ tense during that video. LOL 😝 Did you suffer from cabin fever during your lockdown? So untypical for you 😉 I will make them today 😋
Wonderful video!! I am learning so much from you. Thank you.😊 It is also wonderful that you tell all of us around the world the measurements so I don't have to look at a conversion chart or ask Alexa😆
Thank you for this recipe, I love cinnamon roll but my husband hates cinnamon but loves Orange so I can't wait to make these for him 😍 Only found your channel recently, love your recipes, I'm binge watching from Ireland Belated happy thanksgiving
Question about the dough. But this batch, particularly, but in general. Can you make a video, maybe with bread dough, about the different stages of it? From a shaggy dough to the finished product?

Note to Mr. Fox: Buy Kevin an orange squeezer for his birthday! Kneading info actually very helpful!
Just stick a fork in the orange and squeeze. Comes out easy peasy

We assume some of the practices of our elders & ancients, and tell our stories of them. And, in the momentary recollection together we live on.
Rolled out of bed and immediately started watching you roll out some dough. 👍
Same!

Hello Kevin,
I’m watching you kneading yeast dough by hand.

Appreciate your demonstration and tips on kneading bread dough. I never knew not to add flour, but to scrape it off the surface. Great video.
I always use a fork to squeeze citrus, it works really well.

They already look very delicious 😋 Greetings from Austria 🐶🙋♀️ before baking 😊

I have never commented before but I must say I have made many of your recipes over the years, and really enjoy and learn from your gardening posts as well
. I appreciate all the loving care you have given to your beautiful house. And I love seeing your animals. You should be very proud of your contribution to making life better for so many. Hi Lynn - Thanks so much for your kind comment! To make the cinnamon rolls, first spread the rolled out dough with softened butter. Then mix cinnamon and sugar together, and sprinkle over the butter. Roll up and slice as for the Sweet Orange Rolls. Enjoy!
Would you use butter, sugar and cinnamon for the glaze?

Hello Kevin, Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe. I have always wanted to try baking with yeast but I have been afraid to try. This clear, step by step video gas encouraged me to try.
You can use a fork. To juice oranges or lemons. Great videos. Thanks.
Try pushing a spoon into the orange half while squeezing into a bowl. Works well!
Scrumptious!

Antique glass reamer at any nearby resale/antique shop for $1 or so I'll bet - they are the best.
They look yummy.
