John, I’m in the same boat as the individual you made this hammer for; just starting out. I’m working my way through building a forge. The propane tank is cut, the legs are welded on and next is the coupling to secure the burners. I have a 3 pounder I used when I iron worked. I could probably make it work but I trust your judgment. That’s why I’m mimicking your propane forge build. How would I go about buying one of these hammers? Thank you brother.

My first blacksmithing hammer was a cross peen but after while of doing I made a diagonal peen hammer and because of my striking habits I like the diagonal more. I still used my cross peen for certain things.

I believe Alec uses a beeswax and graphite mix as a hammer eye punch lube. But, plain beeswax seems like it can be enough as well.

Bryan Robinson I feel like it worked pretty well. I was just kind of watching in passing. I’ll get my hands on some graphite powder and give it a try on the next one.

Nice that hammer looks great, I may have missed it but what size was that billet to start with? Was it 2" in diameter and 3" long?

John I know you guys like to use bees wax try and add some graphite with it . Seem to work nice paired up with the bees wax. Just an idea to try. Martin
