I guess what gets me is that Ashley was obviously very familiar with guns, but she didn't aim for body mass, she hit him in the arm and the leg. The fact that he died was not guaranteed based on where she shot him, and that really points more towards self defense.
Not to mention that there is evidence of abuse - shooting a gun into the ceiling is extremely abusive and would reasonably make anyone fear for their life and safety.
I understand that Eva is in a ton of pain, losing both of her parents suddenly at such a young age is devastating, and I hate to say it because I'm sure she doesn't want to see her dad as anything but the perfect father (trust me, realizing your parents are not good people is rough), but it honestly doesn't sound like he was a good father either.
First, he swore that he wouldn't get remarried and that he would focus on raising his daughter who had to find her own mother's dead body, but with a few months he's remarried to a woman who isn't even 10 years older than his daughter. He left her alone all of the time to travel (and just because she says she was ok with that doesn't mean that it's actually ok, we all know that we believed we were ok with things as teenagers that in retrospect were unacceptable), he got his vasectomy reversed and impregnated a woman he barely knew and a woman who he knew for a fact didn't get along with his existing child, then proceeded to chase this woman over thither and yon instead of being at home with his daughter. Then, before he died, he was going to move across the country away from his daughter because he was still chasing a woman who is less than a decade older than his child and feeding into a toxic relationship instead of, again, focusing on his child.
We're talking about a man in his 50s here. That is some pretty awful parenting, and I'm saying that as a person who experienced their only parent choosing to chase a new relationship and new family at the expense of their existing one. If he wasn't dead, people would be pretty quick to call him out on his bad parenting.
I don't know. It feels like there is a lot missing here, but Ashley's story isn't that unbelievable to me. I'm always really suspicious when people say, "He absolutely isn't the type of person to be abusive", especially when they gloss over the whole shooting a gun in a house to intimidate his wife in the presence of his already traumatized daughter who he betrayed in the worst possible way. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

To me it is possible that there was some kind of abuse both ways - I mean it is a red flag for a ”stepmother” to be jealous and compete with the daughter and there were other shady things from Ashleys side that could be an indication of mental abuse or manipulation. I do however think that firing a gun during an argument is a huge red flag and sign of abuse. Personally I believe that them getting married so fast was also a sign of how toxic their relationship was, and it is an indicator that there was possibly love bombing in the beginning of the relationship. But in the end nobody knows what happened within the relationship except for the people who were in it, and it is easy to judge from the outside.

Mutual abuse is so rare its debated if it's even real. In intimate partner violence, there is an abuser (the dominant aggressor) and a victim (secondary aggressor). Victims should not be labelled as equally abusive, its terrible to do that to them and also doesn't acknowledge the reality of abuse. A person can be abusive solely to their spouse but not to their children, & vice versa. His murder was so unwarranted & unnecessary, two daughters now don’t have their father & his life shouldn’t have been taken. They obviously shouldn’t have been together & it’s tragic that neither of them were willing to see the signs & end it. He seems like he made every poor decision he could make and firing a gun into a ceiling is a dangerous overreaction. And could be considered threats so a form of emotional abuse. But I do question the rest of the claims from Ashley because it seems she was also prone to lying about the first wife being killed by him, and saying she was being poisoned by him when no doctor could find proof of it. And pulling weird stunts by reading the daughters diary, asking him to reverse his vasectomy. (Very Jan from the office.) That could also be seen as going after his money by getting her kid in the picture. But I do agree that he made terrible choices thinking only with his you-know-what, by marrying someone 30 years younger, after only knowing her 13 days?? Insanity. Grief can do things to the brain but I can’t imagine being the child in that situation. No one deserves to be killed, it’s just so difficult to hear stories like this, where people keep getting drawn together like magnets, even as if self destructs. It’s so obvious it’ll never work.

How can you say there was no proof of abuse and then concede that he fired a gun in the air during an argument?? That is abuse, and arguably worse than slapping/choking someone, because it is incredibly deadly. It’s essentially a warning that you’re going to shoot them or someone else. And just because there isn’t any proof and other people thought he was a decent guy doesn’t mean he couldn’t have been abusing his wife. Not to be disrespectful, but the kind of man who marries a woman he met at a conservative convention, who’s around the same age as his daughter a few months after his wife dies does not seem like the kind of person incapable of making poor decisions. Whether or not his death was justified will be for the courts to determine. In my opinion, a younger woman being potentially trapped with a baby by an abusive, powerful, older man seems like just cause for fleeing to the other side of the country. Also would like to add that just because she didn’t get maimed by him doesn’t mean it wasn’t self defense.

I’m willing to concede firing that gun during an argument was abuse - at a bare minimum, it was extremely threatening. But seriously? She wasn’t 16, she was in her 20’s, married him by her own volition, and was in agreement he go as far as to reverse his vasectomy to get pregnant. There’s a lot of creeps in this world, but this whole culture of infantilising legal, adult women is ridiculous. Even if she was 19, that’s a morality issue, she’s still an adult. She moved to a different state with her baby, with no willingness to speak to him outside of a text - that’s not trapped. A nine year gap isn’t “around the same age” either, that’s nearly a decade of wisdom and experience beyond his kid, you wanna make it out like he was a creep. I’m on nobody’s side here, the only victims to me are the two daughters those two adults dragged into this mess. You could have just stopped at firing a gun in the midst of an argument with your partner is absolutely abuse, you added unnecessary connotations to an already fucked up situation.

@@RosiaMarz It is absolutely creepy. Even if it isn’t illegal, marrying a woman almost 30 years younger than you days a few weeks after your wife of decades has died? Right. Also it’s willfully ignorant to pretend that power dynamics don’t exist between older men and younger women. Not in every circumstance, but it’s incredibly common, especially if the man comes from a lot of money. Secondly, how did she force him to get a vasectomy?? That was his choice, no one can make him do that. For all we know, he forced her to get pregnant. It’s just as easy to speculate the other way around. All that is factually KNOWN at the present is that he 100% did fire a gun in the air which is abuse and violent, disturbing behavior. There is no evidence of abuse coming from her. Questionable behavior, yes, but not abuse.

Honestly someone can be a victim of domestic violence and also have abuser tendencies. I work with domestic violence victims and they admit to me that they also reacted in a negative way or defended themselves and that’s usually called a breaking point. They already feel so much guilt in reacting negatively but they don’t see what caused them to get to that point in the first place. Which was the constant abuse whether physically or mentally their partner was putting them through.
There’s only so much abuse someone can hold until they start to show tendencies themselves from stress or depression as a direct result from the abuse. So I don’t think it’s fair to automatically assume someone is a straight up abuser or has a history of domestic violence based off a few events in their life that led them to most likely act out of character.

    • @KevinA.Fuller
      @KevinA.Fuller Год назад +85

I agree with you. However, I think I understand why people refer to this case as the “Black Swan murder.”
In the movie “Black Swan,” the main character is Nina, a ballerina striving for perfection. The film focuses on Nina’s rehearsals for the production of “Swan Lake,” where she plays the lead role. However, when another character, Lily, is also chosen and given a prominent role in the production, Nina becomes instantly jealous of her. This jealousy intensifies because Nina notices that Lily possesses positive qualities she lacks. Due to Nina’s perfectionism and the growing tension between them, their relationship becomes strained throughout the film, leading to Nina stabbing Lily towards the end.
Now, let’s connect this to why people may mention the movie “Black Swan” in this case. I believe Ashley shares similarities with Nina, as she feels inferior to Eva in her relationship with Doug. This feeling of inferiority and overbearing jealousy ultimately drives Ashley to kill Doug, mirroring Nina’s attempted act toward Lily in the film. Thus, the reference to the “Black Swan” movie arises due to the parallels in the themes of jealousy and its tragic consequences in both scenarios.
      Hopefully, this explanation makes sense.

In many cases, there will be no "proof" of abuse, especially if an investigation is conducted AFTER it supposedly happened. I hope Kendall can be more responsible with her reporting and messaging in the future. My heart goes out to Eva. I can’t even imagine what she’s going through after everything that’s happened.
I had to put up with my mother dragging me through all of her toxic relationships when I was a kid. She has always chose whatever guy she was dating over me. They always moved extremely fast. She’s about to marry a guy on the 3rd that she hasn’t even been dating for 2 months and they’ve been engaged since like a week into dating and he moved in at the same time. She hasn’t even told me yet. She let me find out from everyone else. And her last marriage was the same way and I only found out after she got married. That time I found out from Facebook. They said I love you right from the jump. They only went out for coffee twice before all of this. There have been so many red flags and she just ignores each one when my 18 year old brother, 16 year old sister and 13 year old sister are living with her. Makes me so nervous and mad because I see the red flags. My advice to anyone (especially people with children) don’t rush into these things. Take your time. Make sure you get to know someone for a while before you introduce your children to someone you’re seeing let alone move them in. Anyone can put on a front and pretend to be someone they’re not. Whether it’s for a few weeks, a few months, or even a year. This is a cycle for my mother unfortunately and so all of us kids have grown up thinking it’s normal and healthy. Now I’m trying to teach my brother and sisters it’s not normal and healthy.
It seems to me that Ashley had a plan. She wanted to use Doug. And I think she called cys to try to have Eva removed from the home so she wasn’t around. I think she knew exactly what she was doing when she made all of those false allegations. I don’t think she actually believed any of the allegations she made up. And that letter she left him when she initially left just seems really scripted so she could claim she had evidence when she needed to. That’s all just my opinion though.
I really wish Eva the very best.❤

Before Ashley accused him of murdering the wife, I did pause. He chose a girl 30+ years his junior and married her in less than two weeks. Maybe they were having an affair. I just… iiiiiidk. 🥴

@@sarab3417 yeah… now I’m wanting to find out more. What if he did murder his wife. And if I was Ashley and wasn’t being believed, and then he won partial custody of my daughter… I’m not sure what lengths I’d go to protect her

It’s possible the abuse went both ways.. most people don’t just fire a gun during an argument, I’m not sure why we are down-playing that.. if she didn’t truly think he was trying to hurt her she wouldn’t have asked for all the testing at the hospital.. just my opinion but just feels like this is very one sided and I don’t like that.

Also the police being called multiple times to their residence during fights or arguments. If this case goes to trial, maybe we will get more answers.

I was a dancer in my youth and teen years and ballet was my passion. I had the opposite problem, I hit 5’10” my freshman year so being a prima ballerina was out..too tall 😢 😂
This case was so sad. I can’t imagine what Eva has gone through starting with losing her mama so young. She is very strong and brave to share her story and touch others who are struggling also! She is so beautiful and I know her parents are looking down together with pride on her!

There are some directors who particularly like tall ballerinas, but unfortunately, none of them were available to you. Bummer!

I am so jealous of your height, you lucky lady; I hope you love it and embrace it now. My nephew's wife is 5'10" and I am so in awe of her. My nephew is 6'2" and their first son is almost one and looks like he's going to be a linebacker.

Eva is an angel I saw her tiktok telling her story awhile back. I’m happy she’s creating a community now, and building a business to create a life she can be proud of. Ashley deserves nothing but the absolute worst. I pray for all the kids involved.

Not to be disrespectful but sounds like Ashley was suffering with a personality disorder and paranoia if not that she was very manipulative because how she kept switching and trying to hurt Dough’s reputation is both confusing and very alarming. Accused the guy of everything under the sun.. it’s as though she hated the guy with a passion.
