Jamie Fox is so talented it's downright freaky. To be able to sing, act, do comedy and play the piano the way he does is truly amazing. I believe Who Am I is my favorite song in Annie. This and the My Opportunity song Quvenzhane sings. I think because they both reveal such intense vulnerability. One is melancholy. The other is inspirational. Both are originals and well-done. Also, I enjoyed Cameron Diaz's performance so much in the movie--acting, singing, dancing and I find it simply astonishing that Renee Zellwelleger was chosen to portray the lead in Chicago. I keep wondering who else could have taken on the fierce Catherine Zeta Jones as an equal and I keep coming back to Cameron. Maybe Madonna or Michelle Pfeiffer but since they were looking for someone to portray an ingenue--Cameron Diaz would have really rocked the Roxie Hart role.
Giving Miss Hannigan a character arc and having her become a reformed person is what I really love about this adaptation. It is not like the original movie where Hannigan reforms just as she realizes that Rooster will kill Annie. This Miss Hannigan is a much nicer person and it works beautifully.
She's just an depressed burnt-out alcoholic. Still bad, but at least she decides to turn over a new leaf and start fresh when she realizes she actually left Annie vulnerable and goes to help get her back, and becomes a better foster mom to the other girls.
I really like this song because it's the song of realization 1. Collen realizes that she shouldn't feel bitter about life and start to treat other with the good heart she had 2. Stacks realizes that he cares for Annie very much and that he needed someone in his life 3. Annie realizes that there is something wrong or off about her parents showing up even it should feel right or this moment should be celebrated And at the end of the song "They start again" meaning a fresh slate Collen treating others well Stacks trusting others Annie going with her parents.
For all the people who complain about this version do you realize that all you have to do is not watch it?! Other people are aloud to like it and they can also appreciate the original as well. If you really hate it that much though then don't watch it and don't look up the songs! It is that simple. The only reason you do it is to be hateful.
