For me there is no more memorable start of a holiday than when I get off the train and go through the underground passage at Interlaken Ost to get to tracks 2 and 3!
Спасибо автору,ролик захватывающий.Сам живу в горах,ну и сдесь красота за хватывающая.Видно,сколько было финансов вложено на обустройство всей инфраструктуры.Спасибо,за доставленный просмотр👍
What a gorgeous country, I was fortunate enough to visit it twice about 22 years ago. I look forward to seeing it again soon. Greetings from Sacramento, California.
Very pretty on such a nice day. I well remember white water rafting and gorge walking in those waters. And the walking from Wengen up to Kleine Scheidegg, what awesome views.
@@AKSense I see. What a huge reserve there must be in glaciers to feed such waterfalls ..... The Alps are amazingly beautiful mountains. We were in Austria and Bavaria - unforgettable !
Danke für's Mitnehmen, ein sehr schönes Video🙂🍀.. Das Flüsschen entlang der Strecke hat eine schnelle Fließgeschwindigkeit und eignet sich bestimmt gut zum Rafting.
Also interesting to know, I guess, is that the train, when it leaves Interlaken Ost, is a composite train. The leading part is going to Lauterbrunnen and the trailing part is going to Grindelwald. In Zweilutschinen the train is split and the leading part is going to Lauterbrunnen and the trailing part continues to Grindelwald. In the opposite direction, the train from Grindelwald enters the Zweilutschinen station first and the train from Lauterbrunnen then follows and is attached as the trailing part before continuing to Interlaken Ost.
Yes, and the mechanism coupling both halves works _very_ fast, 99% of the passengers are not even aware this process is taking place. It's worth showing on video, there is the purely mechanical part and then an electric "plug" part, both taking literally seconds to complete. 10:46 The driver must stop the train at a spot that's not too far forward, so that the Grindelwald half of the train is still sitting before the Grindelwald fork of the track (seen at 10:28).
Thanks for sharing. I travelled this track last Sunday (day trip to Schilthorn) so it's alwas nice to virtually retravel from the front perspective. :-)
Traveled that route many times. Great to see it again although there has been a lot of construction work going on outside Interlaken. Hope to be back to the most beautiful country in the world
I travelled on this line 60 years ago (March 1963) for a family holiday! Air to Geneva, overnight in Geneva, then Geneva to Interlaken, Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen as in this video, and finally Lauterbrunnen to Wengen which we used as a base for trips to the Jungfraujoch and other sites. I remember a lot of snow around - and on one of our excursions passing the infamous North Face of the Eiger - a great dark mass looming over the narrow-guage railway and disappearing up into mist! The main thing I remember about the train journey is the cogwheel stretch as there's nothing like that here in the UK.
Sho wieder die Gliech..! The same as it ever was.... But sorry to see so many people. I was there 45 years ago. 1981. Thanks for the video. Do you have video from Lauterbrunnen up to Kleine Sheidegg??
I planned my Swiss holiday specifically to see the town of Lauterbrunnen. Now I can't stop watching videos about the Swiss trains, Interlaken, and Lauterbrunnen! Cheers from LaLa Land, California.
Great videos. I would love it if you could get them to clean the windows, I thought i was seeing wingsuiters, drones and power gliding for most of the trip! 😉😊
Yes last time i rode this Train was 1971 ... looks like the have changed the Funnicula to Cable Car up the Mountain Side .... to the high level Railway to Murren ?
Excellent framing! Most cab view videos use a viewing angle that's too narrow, here it's perfect. I visited there first time in 1995 when they didn't yet have the "synchromesh" section of the rack. So frequently when the train approached it, there would be loud metallic _BANGS_ as the pinions settled in the rack. It was all rather romantic (for an engineering type that is). Some years later they added short initial segments made of something like hard rubber(?) which quietly set the pinions rotating and they meet the metal part "in sync" most of the time. And people would smoke on the train. 2:42 A new stop? 10:12 Adding more tracks and platforms in Zweilütschinen? "Zu viele Touristen" 🙂
2:42 Yes, it will be a new station, named Matten. I think it's intended as a park & ride, so that fewer people drive up the valley to Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald.
@@MarkWaller2 And conveniently located near the end of the airport runway, so if you arrive in your jet, you don't need to fly it all the way to Lauterbrunnen 🙂So likely this stop will be active only during the high season?
Yes, there will be a new train station “Park+Ride Matten” at 2:42 area by the end of this year (Dec. 2023- as planned), with parking facility for around 200 cars and 36 buses. And, more platforms and tracks are being added at Zweilütschinen station.
Why the extra platform at Zweilutschinen? The current service pattern doesn’t require it. Are they planning separate trains to each destination rather than splitting the train here?
I was wondering about what gives the water in the rivers that distinctive colour, it looks almost milky. Our rivers in Canada don't look like that, very beautiful.
Short answer: Typically, rivers in this region are directly formed from the glacial meltdown. After multiple falls and getting enriched with sediments and air bubbles, that milky hue of appearance comes.
Normally this river (Weisse Lütschine) is of a pale turquoise colour which is very characteristic and beautiful. Here it looks like it may have rained few days earlier as it's a bit muddy and turbulent. On calmer days one may see people riding in kayaks!
When i first went to Lauterbrunnen in 1983 there were just 2 open platforms!--------- the place now looks like Zurich HB in comparrison----------------Tourism ruins everything!
To compare, watch the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”” to see Lauterbrunnen station and village as they were in 1969. It has many scenes filmed in the area, obviously including at the famous Piz Gloria (Schilthorn)
The first caption is confusimg. Just because the train switches from Narrow Gauge to Cogwheel does not mean it is changing gauge! What you should have said is:- The train switches from Adhesion to Cogwheel propulsion.

Unless the gauge of the track (distance between the rails) changes, it doesn’t switch between narrow gauge & cog wheel, it stays narrow gauge all the way, but just becomes a cog wheel narrow gauge for some parts…
Is it difficult for you to get permission to have your camera in the driver's compartment? You have a few of those type of trip videos so I am assuming the rail lines must be quite generous to you and possibly other vloggers. You should be being paid by the Swiss Government as you really are helping their tourist industry. Keep up the great work.
@@AKSense Or, you must be extremely lucky, as I was last July. I was staying in Grindelwald and the weather had been lousy that day; rain, rain and more rain. I had a Berner Oberland regionalpass (expensive, but anyway) which allows you free use of almost all public transport, cable cars and mountain railways in the region. So I decided to go from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg in the afternoon; at least in the train, it would be dry and the views are stunning anyway. I sat down in the very back of the train in Grindelwald, knowing that in Grund, the train would reverse direction and I would be in the very front of the train. As it was already pretty late in the afternoon, there was almost nobody on the train going up to Kleine Scheidegg. In Grund, the train driver switches place. Usually, the drivers enter via an external door into the driver's cabin but this time, he entered from the coach side. He saw that I was alone in that part of the train and he asked me if I would be interested to join him in the cab. That was the most extraordinary experience I have ever had. We had a very interesting conversation on the way up and, needless to say, the experience was stunning. I must have done this train ride about a 100 times before, but I will never forget this special one. If this train driver would happen to read this, I would still like to thank him again for this amazing experience.
Nepal should partner with the Swiss to build such a railroad to the base of Mt. Everest. Erect a hotel and construct a cable car to Everest summit, such as the Swiss have done throughout the Alps. It would be a money maker.
