If anybody is wondering, yes the channel has been changed back to Driver 81. This was the original name of this channel. Same garbage content though. Ha! 😀
Wow, I wish I would have known about this product last season. My 991.1 PCM 3.1’s $20 hard drive went bad, the fix from Porsche was an entirely new PCM… that cost me $4,000 CAD. Just sent this video to my buddy who’s PCM 3.1 on his 991 just stopped working, this will save him a good amount of money! Seeing this video hurts, but if it ever goes bad again I know I can get a product better and for 1/15th the price! Thanks for this video it is helpful!
I've installed this unit on my 981 Boxter and so far so good, better than expected. You don't need to install the microphone, your car will automatically use the original microphone that's installed in the car. I wasn't particularly happy with the chrome knobs so I removed them and painted them black to match the rest of the unit.
Thanks for the info. How did you know the mic isn’t needed? I don’t mind the knobs but I can see why others would want to change them. I’m happy with the unit plus I now have NAV when I didn’t used to. Cheers 👍
@@alsatch_ I installed this unit mainly for Apple Car Play and navigation as well. I didn't install the microphone and after sinking my iPhone I was able to make and receive calls, ask Siri to play Spotify, etc... Maybe It's using the microphone from the iPhone?... not sure but it works good. For the price, this is a great alternative.
I installed PCM4 in my 981, it cost me around £750 for the unit, harness adaptors etc. Had I have seen this video at the time I might’ve been more tempted to save the extra £500 and go aftermarket instead 😂
Great unit and simple install got one for my 2012 981 Boxster S. Didn't fit external mike, inbuilt one on front of unit, and added the Erisin DAB+. and OB2 diagnostics. Still trying to fathom all the settings factory settings. Had to tweak the gain to get decent volume on maps, just wish it had auto volume as speed increases. . Can't find a tasker for this up to now.
Hey mate, Love the video, perfect timing for me! I'm picking up a 981 boxster and it has front and reverse sensors with the on screen indicator too. Just a question. Any chance that the on screen parking sensors would be able to display on the eirisin unit? And do the parking sound sensors still work? Thanks so much!
Hello mate. Yes the parking sensors still work, and it actually gives on screen images and visuals when the car is reversing, like an ultrasonic display pops up and shows you getting closer to an object. It also brings up visuals if any doors are open.
Can you let me know what displays on your instrument panel digital screen? Especially under the audio and phone tabs. Does the Audio tab show what's playing on the unit or even carplay/AA? I installed another unit and a bunch of Chinese displayed on the phone tab the entire time so I sent it back along with a few other reasons. Thanks
Hi, I don’t have the Bose system, but this kit does work with Bose, but you need to buy an additional bit which is done when making payment, the seller also asked me if I had Bose to double check before sending it out, that way I will work straight from opening the box. Cheers 👍
So for the multi function display, it will show you the frequency (for example 98.1 FM) but it does not show which station it is (ex Radio 2) If you are listening to carplay, it will show you the band and the name of the song. So it all links up pretty well.
@@alsatch_ does the PCM 3.1 have any car settings on it like an MMI has in an Audi, if so do you lose them? I’m in the process of looking for a 991.1 at the moment, coming from a C7 RS6, but I spent my younger years in the car hifi industry, so want to fit a good basis for a proper audio upgrade, this looks like it might do the job.
@@simonelliott5956setting are done via the instrument Cluster multi function display, not in the PCM (MMI equivalent) so you won’t lose any settings. 👍
I didn’t have Bose. But you can buy an add on that connects with the Bose system. If you buy off the people on the link, they will ask you if you have Bose and will show you exactly what you need. I think it’s like £50 more expensive if you have the Bose.

@@alsatch_My 2014 981 had the CDR31 unit when I bought the car this summer. It has a rear camera and I suspect the previous owner had installed a similar unit to the one you have installed to replace your CDR3. There is a stray microphone hanging down under the steering wheel, my FM/AM radio and SAT radio produce only static and a means says "check antenna". I think the original mic on the steering column is still working w my Android phone to receive/send calls. Dealer is checking it currently to try and get the radio connections working. Now I wonder if I we'll get more options if I switch to this unit (still need the antennas to be working). My unit's touchscreen (as described in original window sticker) isn't working. Is that usual?
Hey I’m hoping you see this comment! I installed this head unit today in my cayman and everything about it is great except when I call someone while using CarPlay it echos very bad on the other end. Have you dealt with this issue? Any solutions? Let me know. Thanks
To be honest i haven't see this for the 996, i have only seen it for 2012 cars onwards, so i don't think they do it for that car yet. There is the option to buy from the Porsche dealer, but the cost is sky high like £1500 or something.
Great channel my friend! I saw you had a Macan... I have a 2015 Macan Turbo and the PCM is gone... Would it be the same install procedure as with your cayman you think?? Seems relatively easy if so. Cheers mate!
thanks for making this video. Just bought a 2013 porsche boster s pdk, w pcm 3.1 bose . In your opinion is the screen resolution significantly better than the OEM pcm 3.1 screen resolution ? Have you looked at the competing units ie joyeauto and mr12volt? just wondering because i only want to do this once . erison appears to be cheaper or about equivalent to joyeauto price but if erison screen is better then thats a plus . Current bluetooth quality for calls is pretty bad imo on the oem bose . thanks mike
The unit does work with Bose yes, but you do need a different adaptor which you need to tell them about when ordering, it might cost like £50 more but it can definitely be done.
I've been looking for just this sort of thing for my 981S! Thanks, very timely and seems like a great, cost-effective solution. As for judging you on your music, Arcade Fire and The Jam sort of...made up for the rest. :D

I don’t believe the GPS antenna will work stored under the dash. It will need some visibility to the sky (at least my old kit with Nav did).
It works just fine on my unit where i have placed it. Maybe they have better antennas now i don't know, but it works absolutely fine. Thanks.

I just retrofitted a pcm 4.0 into it and a 718 steering wheel
Nice. It’s much better isn’t it. 👍
Any idea if you can retro fit a PCM 4.0 to a 991.1?
Agreed. That beeping would lead me to swap it out.
Yeah was doing my head in. All sorted though managed to find the beep setting.
