    42:44 that is talking about adult children.
    The rod and staff the bible discusses regarding children is the word of God. Not an actual rod and beating. Just wanted to explain this to an audience that it seems hasn't researched much on biblical language. 💚

    Teach rather than allow; "get"/"is" educated; come into world burning to learn: propeller of species - unless shut into schools; the educative animal, depending upon knowledge and skills; onus on child, designed to educate oneself; education is sum of what lets one live meaningfully; computer to us like hunter child to bow-arrow?;
    Where questions and curiosity dont count or matter; stay alive to see what happens; Solitary confinement and new things;
    How to experience fear
    "Raise" children, like agriculture; adults are soil children grow in
    Taboo to hit child
    Not "my child" or "your child" -
    Continuum college
    Childhood ends not until you have children yourself?
    Unlimited play time, with some requests
    Regarded as having common sense (wholly, not "enough to go to college, and not enough to not go to college")
    Caused
    Bible and some scripture severe to child; sociology of obedience in biblical family dynamic commands
    Not beating, "padding"
    Not out of view of supervisor
    Designed for indoctrination, teacher in charge, evaluating cirricula,
    Can't tinker with current system
    Teacher's job is to stay on track
    Obedience etiquette to teachers
    Assume they learned wrong in hs, or forgot
    Grown unschoolers
    Believe it's teacher's responsibility to educate, look over shoulder,
    Takes time, Not interrupted by a bell, boredom stirs
    Not teacher but guide?
    Which adult to go to
    Age mixing; ageless groups; same age play is modern; age segregation;
    Provide setting where kids can educate themselves
    I want to end this way. Crime of unhappy childhood. Choose path to happiness
    Preach democracy, but deprive all of what we call democratic rights

      yes, it sets up the context for why and how he came to the six principles for self-directed education.

    At the end, we have to compare both kinds of children who are taking planned classes and those who are engaged in self-directed classes......Don't u think that the child who is directed by an adult would be better able to perform than the one who on the other hand is playing angry birds in the self-directed environment.....I mean how will self-directed education help children achieve those milestones that are required for them to survive at a particular age of life.......Bcz as opposed to hunter-gatherer culture we are not living in an egalitarian culture....

      Because kids at school are made and fir accedemics, they are not able to thibk outside the box. You have a big gap the ones that thrives and the ones that don't the one's that dont are usually the futur mechanic, hair dressers etc. They may not be great in serait subject but do not need to be left behind. I am seeing it now with my 5th grader. Schools are not allowed to let ppl fail a grade when they can't keep up. Kids with special need are in regular classroom with different work. So they disturb the ones that need to learn with the class and the child feels left out and pointed out. So tell me is it better

      Because kids that are internally motivated to learn, most often remember what they learn because it interests them. Most importantly, the brain grows best when it's not in a state of fear. If you are scared of "failing" a class, afraid that you're not "keeping up", will let down your parents or environment, it causes stress, which puts your body (and brain) in a less ideal state to learn. When you are motivated from the inside, you will move past fear. Passion drives you forward. Also, self-directed kids can choose to be directed by an adult. Think about what you do when YOU want to learn something. F.e. you want to bake a birthday cake. Do you buy a book about baking, do you watch a video, do you take a cooking class directed by someone, or do you just buy some ingredients and experiment? Or maybe a mix of all? "Self-directed" just means you move towards what feels best for you. We all learn how we learn best. I know that when I want to try out a recipe, I often just jump online and look it up - then pick out the recipe that seems most appealing to me and tweak it a little to make it more to my taste.

    I disagree with a lot of his points. Perhaps the average American can get through life without formal education - but you generally don’t become an engineer without formal education. Self directed study attorneys fail the bar at more than double the rate of formally educated attorneys. Play has value. So does learning formally.

    • @danielkislyuk3883

      one does not become an engineer by graduating from a high-school either.

    • @Novamakez
      @Novamakez Год назад

      Why is that? If the information you need to become an engineer is not locked away, people are able to learn it if they want to, right?

      Actually kids can learn everything through play. Something you seem not to know is that Dt Peter Gray is not talking about College or University. Many self educated kids go later to University, etc .

      @@gregorywilliams6940 Not Special, just free. When you study any mammal in captivity it looks very different to when you study it in the wild. SDE kids are untamed. Ironically this means they take a lot more responsibility than their schooled peers, who always have adults taking responsibility for them so they don't have to learn how.
      It's a common complaint from SDE college/university attendees that their schooled peers are so immature and want to get drunk rather than study
