  • In this video I will explain and demonstrate how to fuse your shadowboxing with rhythm and the music of Salsa, which is the basis behind SALBOX.
    I include some details on music theory but nothing too complicated for you guys to grasp.
    Enjoy!

    Master Charles, i am a French old amateur boxer and I have been waiting for an explanation about polyrhythms in Cuban boxing for a long time. Thank you very much for your clarity, for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and for your videos always in different beautiful places in London….
    I watched all your videos and I learnt a lot. So many fascinating boxers in this country not allowed to become pro since 1962 but who are every time on the Olympics podium….

    • @Charlessalbox
      @Charlessalbox  2 года назад +3

      Very insightful Vincent - I think much of the development of Cuban Boxing is due to the preservation of the school system. And yes with the history this is why I believe pro boxingas a sport as it is now falls short because of 2 reasons 1) +6'5" athletes usually tend to enter NBA and thus the heavyweight division is empty and 2) Cuban Boxers do not have a strong presence in the Pro ranks! Pro boxing I believe would be much different if those two things were to change.

      @@Charlessalbox thank you for your very interesting answer. I totally agree. I must say I have much more pleasure to watch amateur boxing especially when Cuban with their incredible footwork are involved, than a pro fight. I think I need to learn salsa…my wife will be happy!

    This is incredible! As an older person who played bball and soccer all my life, I started to lose a lot of quickness, mobility, and began feeling really stiff as I got older. I recently started boxing to continue to do something competitive and improve my flexibility. My favorite part of training has got to be the footwork and "dancing" part of it. I feel so rigid shadowboxing and doing my footwork drills. Thank you teaching me something new and interesting, and for giving me something to work on to improve my fluidity.

    This is cool- for the Americans you are basically talking about moving in whole notes(1,2,3,4) halves (1,2) and quarters (1)- think a follow up would be great showing some drills where you use it with punches. This was a really nice intro.

I'm 🇵🇷 Puerto Rican, so salsa is in my blood and I've always loved all martial arts including Boxing, but other than playing salsa in the background, I never considered how it could directly be applied to the Boxing training. Yet it makes so much sense. You showed how you executed the Cuban style to the Boxing stance. Would you please do another video show the same for Puerto Rican style and Cali style? Thank you and keep it up ! 👍

    Thing is I'm actually pretty decent at salsa. Well decent enough that females will sometimes ask me to dance when I go out lol. But whenever I've trained in boxing I've always been told I was stiff. Even had someone ask me how I could be so fluent on the dance floor and stiff in the ring. And I would always say well no one is hitting me on the dance floor unless it's a woman who likes to swing those elbows when she moves lol.
    Anyway my point is I never really knew how to bridge the footwork from salsa to the boxing ring. Thank you so much for making this. I can't wait to get going with it. Feel like a kid with a new toy :)

    • @Charlessalbox
      @Charlessalbox  2 года назад +5

      Yes. Well the first thing is to set a rhythm count to set a pace to your work when sparring or fighting. This will also give your opponent a false assessment of what level you are working at. Then when he falls for the deception you can break into a different rhythm and punish him for getting into the ring with you.

    martial arts warriors with disabled eyesight are splendid fighters because they use vibrations of sounds to defend and go on offense and it’s thanks to persistent shadow martial arts
    And shadow martial arts from shadow boxing to etc. martial arts was designed to help you develop martial art senses like a warrior with disabled eyesight but can feel and see the opponent without seeing them with eyesight
    If you can’t hit someone with physically able eyesight at your usage to help you then how can you hit someone you can’t physically see especially at night
    Shadow martial arts is key to developing fighting senses like a blind eyesight warrior especially doing shadow martial arts at night
    Shadow martial arts helps your senses be like a warrior with disabled eyesight it’s underrated
