Cowboys rumors on Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook are back. Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys could have interest in signing one of those veteran backs to pair with a rookie running back: “Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook are two veteran options who stand to draw strong club consideration as free agency progresses … Team owner Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones told The Dallas Morning News this week at the NFL’s annual meeting they could neither confirm nor deny interest in the running backs. While they declined to comment, anyone contemplating the Cowboys’ direction at the position would be wise to monitor the veteran running backs in conjunction with a rookie pick. Multiple people familiar with the players’ thinking told The News the veterans have interest in potentially signing with Dallas.”
Cowboys Report host Tom Downey’s biggest problem with signing those players are that they just aren’t good anymore. In fact, for all the correct complaining about the short yardage offense, Ezekiel Elliott was worse in those areas!

At this point I really don't care what Jerry or Stephen does. They're both completely incompetent as it relates to football operations, and they have proven it year in and year out for almost 3 decades. They never sign anyone in a timely manner. They wait until the player is on the final year of their deal or they'll tag someone just to lose them anyway (Schultz, Pollard) and that costs them millions per season. If I'm Dak I'm holding out. Jerry has had it out for Dak since Dak didn't cave and give him a discount the last time. If I'm McCarthy I'd resign. Jerry and Stephen seem hell bent on sinking the ship. I wouldn't go down with em.

Why would they want to sign Ezekiel Elliott back or even Dalvin cook going to the Dallas Cowboys because neither one of those two have anything left in the tank so it would be a waste of money and time and .I know how much Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones like money so they need to save the money and don't waste their time getting neither one of those two they should have went ahead and picked up a running back in the free agency like they were supposed to and grab Derrick Henry when he was available but they were sitting there trying to be slick and greedy trying to hold on today money and not really do what's best for the Dallas Cowboys football team.

A couple of things to consider regarding Zeke…. Yes, his yards per carry has gone down every year, but that production scenario is true for nearly all RBs. It’s the nature of the position. Also, his offensive line was worse every year as well. Not bad of course, but worse. And finally, you’re framing this all wrong. You don’t sign Zeke back to hand him the ball 10 to 15 times a game. You sign him for veteran presence, and team morale, which is in short supply right now.

I think the cowboys are going to let go everyone except lame Zach Ferguson and smith on offence by the end of this season and start over while still keeping at top 5 Defence especially if they keep adding vets on that side of the ball.

At this point, I wouldn't sign Dalvin Cook or Ezekiel Elliot. If we are heading into the season and can't find a running back elsewhere, maybe I would consider signing Dalvin Cook. For me, there's too much negativity associated with Elliot's holdout. He never lived up to his contract. I don't have those negative feelings towards Dalvin Cook.
I'm in rebuild mode. I'd prefer that we just try out young running backs in hopes of finding someone who can be there in a few years when we are in a position to make a run at the Super Bowl.
I don't feel as strongly about Micah Parsons being weak in the big games in the same way that I don't like Prescott being weak in big games. Parsons is still a young player. He might develop into a big game contributor as he gains experience. As an edge player, not every defensive play runs through him as every offensive play runs through the quarterback. On the other hand, he can't get a super big payday and then be surrounded by the players we need in order to win the big games. He's just not been that good yet.
I believe that we could rebuild now and win a Super Bowl after the 2026 or 2027 season. In that scenario, both Micah Parsons and Cee Dee Lamb could be valuable players in that Super Bowl run. Others have said that the Cowboys shouldn't bother to keep both Parsons and Lamb if they are going to rebuild. Of the two, I would keep Lamb. If the Cowboys trade Parsons this year and get early picks in 2025 and 2026, they will have draft capital to build that winning team.
