The Cowboys face a possible loss of Dak Prescott in 2025 - whether by their choice or his. And that’s what annoys Cowboys Report host Tom Downey: they messed up the first contract and are making the exact same mistake this time around. They have enough information to decide if they want to pay the Top 10 QB or not. And for the record: the $40 million per year he got last time is about the same as giving him $60 million right now, relative to the salary cap.
Dak Prescott replacements via the 2024 NFL Draft:
Bo Nix (Oregon)
Michael Penix (Washington)
Spencer Rattler (South Carolina)
Jordan Travis (FSU)
Michael Pratt (Tulane)
Joe Milton (Tennessee)
Cowboys Free Agent Targets to possible replace Dak in 2025:
Russell Wilson
Justin Fields
Tua Tagovailoa
Jared Goff
Andy Dalton
Dallas Cowboys trade rumors could link the team to one of these QBs:
Kyler Murray ($32.61 MM)
Geno Smith ($25.00 MM)
Bryce Young ($4.20 MM)
Top Dak Prescott replacements if the Cowboys draft a QB in 2025:
Carson Beck (Georgia)
Quinn Ewers (Texas)
Shedeur Sanders (Colorado)
Noah Fifita (Arizona)
Cam Ward (Washington St)
Jalen Milroe (Alabama)
Drew Allar (PSU)
Conner Weigman (Texas A&M)
Riley Leonard (Notre Dame)
Dillon Gabriel (Oregon)

Hell no
Why does this team cease to not disappoint me
This is the most important offseason in Trey Lance's life. He better be putting in major work! If he's ballin in OTA's, training camp, and the preseason, the hype to have him as a viable replacement to Dak would be off the charts. I would love to have that discussion.
Totally agree, The Packers handed their entire franchise over to Rodgers in 2008 (including a large contract for the time). Rodgers had less than half of the passing yards or games played at the time as Lance, yet everyone is willing to label Lance as a bust?
When I see him play he just looks green, He was damn near a teenager when he came in the league and it takes time for anyone to develop.
@@mattclark6482Rodgers arm was something else coming into the NFL, Rodgers was also drafted to take over after Brett Favre. Lance is doodoo
@@codyp.3191 And you knew that without a doubt based on his work (half of what Lance has done) through 2007.
You should be an NFL scout then

We didnt pick up Trey Lances option to not play him
His option was 25M. They might try to give him a 2 year for 25M
@@mikerob2158 thats starting QB money. Nobodys paying that without intentions of him playing at some point

In the 90's i would have never believed that jones would allow the cowboys to go 30 years without a nfc championship game much less a super bowl. Its obvious to everyone that jimmy Johnson was the true brains behind the super bowl run in the 90's
30 years without a superbowl isnt the issue, its the fact we didnt try...
Thanks for all the updates .
I think one of the most important things for us as fans to understand is that the jones boys are about making money first and winning maybe these days , why we are going through this bull shit now days , #justselltheteam
Trey Lance has sat behind Jimmy G, Brock Purdy, and Dak Prescott. Its time to start this young man and get him going.
If he couldn't out play Jimmy g, he doesn't deserve to start at all
@@hyphybull28to be fair jimmy G wasnt bad until he got paid and got injured😅
God no. There’s a reason he has sat behind all these dudes. He ain’t it🤦🏽♂️
Jimmy G played in a SB. If he "aint it" why did ee trade for him and then pick up his option for this year? You really dont know anything
Trey Lance is the qb they're developing he gets a lot of hate but he wasn't developed and didn't have much experience. Personally I think he could be a great qb if given the chance in a year or 2
You’re always blaming the Cowboys organization for what’s absolutely the fault of the players who are demanding mega bucks. This is 💯 on Dak Tim…
This team is gonna kill me before old age and I’m 23
Don’t say that.
Was waiting for this video to drop. Thnx
Kirk cusins was younger than dak when he went to the Vikings
The reason why We haven’t extended him and done anything this off season is because come draft day we will be getting MPJ
I wish

Thanks for breaking down the 3rd rd comp pick and cap savings if released. Im all about getting cap relief
Who do you want as the Cowboys QB in 2025?
No
Dak Prescott.
Trey Lance
Michael Penix
Someone else
Tom's mancrush on Dak is close to the cultish devotion of Mark Holmes, Law Nation, David Helman, and Keyshawn Johnson
You have no idea what you're talking about bro.
Hahaha
Archie manning when he comes out
😂dude can’t even earn the starting job at Texas😂
They traded for and gave Trey Lance a whole year to build grow and learn the system for a reason… jus sayin
Zeke might come to Dallas cowboys
Bwahaha
Hell no. He was released for a reason.
Zeke will be announcing his retirement this year.
Tom has the idea that the salary cap is a myth, well it's real and we have to pay up soon for cee dee and parsons not good
Tom tlaks sometimes like he lives on another planet and no clue about how the salary cap works.
0 he’s had his chance
I predict that they sign at least 3-4 ufl players before the draft
I totally agree trade him or cut him. NOW!
Cut makes no sense and we waited too long to get trade value… and Dak had a no trade clause
You have seen it happen. Cousins hit the market. They are the same player, bro.
I'm tired of Rumors! Wake me up when the season starts. I can't take it anymore.

I have a feeling they are thinking Lance is going to be better than everyone is thinking. I know he is a free agent in 2025. I bet they will be a contact before the end of the season
Yes
Do you think any team with the top 10 pick or maybe even the top five pick would trade that for DAC and our first round
Not when they can get a top prospect for 1/20th the cost for the next 5 years.
Even though Dak has a no trade clause, why didn’t we ever have any rumors of another team reaching out for his services..
We need a front office rebuild!
I appreciate the idea of making this video, but you missed one issue that I think is important.
I've heard some people say that there are different financial consequences for trading before or after June 1. If that's not true, I wish it had been addressed. If that is true, then an explanation of those differences would have been valuable. If the Cowboys save money by trading Prescott after June 1, then that's when they should try to make the trade.
If Prescott really thinks that it's his place to get to dictate a non-trade because he doesn't want his new team to have given up high draft picks, then he's too conceited to play in the NFL. Maybe that becomes a problem. Maybe his being conceited is why he wanted the last contract in the way that it was. Maybe that conceit is why he insists on being paid more than he's worth. He and his fans can point to statistics, but statistics can be deceiving. He had good statistics in the last playoff game against Green Bay, but his play was horrible. He didn't lead drives when the team needed to keep up in the first half and when he wasn't leading them to punt, he was throwing interceptions. That he thinks he should be in the conversation for top five highest paid quarterbacks is a sign of self-delusion.
At this point, the Cowboys are playing chicken. They played and lost with Elliot, and Elliot never lived up to his contract. They played and lost with Prescott, and Prescott has never won the big games after getting his contract. To some extent, they played and lost with Zack Martin last fall. Maybe what the Cowboys organization most needs to do is play chicken and refuse to flinch. If Prescott leaves as a free agent, then at least the organization has shown that it won't be bullied.
If a trade before June 1 is the same as a trade after June 1, the Cowboys should tell Prescott that they are going to pick the best available quarterback at pick 24 and plan on finding a replacement. They should tell him that they aren't going to improve his offensive line protection at pick 24 and aren't going to give him better receivers. If he doesn't agree to a trade, then he can live with a difficult situation in 2024. With Earl Bostick Jr. protecting his left side, he can take those sacks. Without a good run game, defensive lines will be planning to destroy him. He will go into free agency with horrible statistics. Maybe he'll have another season of a high number of interceptions. Maybe he'll take a bunch of hits and have nagging injuries. Instead of finding another team to give him that big contract he wants, he'll have to settle for a contract below that of what the Falcons gave Kirk Cousins.
If a trade after June 1 is a different situation, then the Cowboys should tell Prescott nothing and draft as they want. Maybe they should focus the first two or three picks on the defense. Maybe they can pick up a defensive tackle, and edge rusher, and a linebacker. Prescott will go into training camp knowing that he's going to have day 3 offensive linemen and running backs. Again, he won't have the kind of year that will give him high value in free agency. He might be able to get the Kirk Cousins contract, but he might not even get that. He'll spend another year not getting a chance at a Super Bowl and risking injury. Under those conditions, he'll accept a trade during the summer. The Cowboys will get great draft picks to use in 2025 and 2026.
Either way, I just want the Cowboys to get the bad contract with Prescott behind them. I want them to get the dead money behind them. Maybe they will get lucky and catch lightning in a bottle some January, but nothing in Prescott's history suggests that he can win big games. Signing Prescott to another contract just means four more years of losing in January and then another year or two of dead money from his contract. I'd rather get all of that out of the way now. At this point, I would have a fire sale and get draft picks. I would trade Zack Martin for picks. I might trade DeMarcus Lawrence for picks. I might even break down and trade Micah Parsons and Cee Dee Lamb for picks. I'd stockpile my picks and try to be a Super Bowl winner at the end of this decade.
Trey Lance in the next Tom Brady
If you wanted to give the Cowboys the benefit of the doubt ( not saying you should), they might be looking at their recent history and realizing they do better with UDFAs than with actual draft picks. Furthermore when the going gets tough late in the season they're completely dependent on those UDFAs to field a team (Bell, Bass, Hoffman...)
If your season is ultimately going to depend on this very inexpensive players why not go all in on UDFAs sprinkler in some stars and see what happens.
yes
You have Trey Lance who says he’s not capable of doing the job
Mazi has lost weight .. Let's try him... Just give him a few years to "develop".😅
When did he say that?
History? 😂😂😂
@@Henry-yi4rgI think he means who's to say he's not capable...but can he beat out Rush
@@dezevora45 Rush was a URFA .... and not a SINGLE team pursued him. That's a SLIGHT clue as to his talent level. If Lance can't supplant him he must be total crap.
Hot take: trade Dak and start Trey Lance. Pay Lance after the season BECAUSE you have to pay one of em. A 31 year old(by that time) or a guy who is the same age as the top draft prospects this year. Move on, get younger, lets go! With that pick we can go after Nabors or Harrison Jr, or trade for Justin Jefferson. Sign Zeke right now. Go after the best DL in the draft thats available. Get a LB. Grab a RB in the 5th or 6th.
Jerry does not know what he is doing that's just I don't know I'm really confused just does not mean any sense
Id never pick Shadeur, hes not good
Trey Lance
Listen I get we spent a fourth rounder on a qb this past year but I think we need to draft Michael pennix in either the first or second round, he’s perfect for us and we can trade away dak for whatever we want, picks, an rb, O line, defensive linemen, etc
Dak is just too hot or cold. Cold on meaningful games.
Sounds like the Boyz r going 4 a 1st rounder 👀
I want dallas to get beck in 2025 nfl draft next year out of georgia
Straight trash year for us until the 25 seazn
Well have rush and Lance let's dance
O.....
Tom your comments scare me! I have been a cowboy fan, my whole life and now I. Almost wanna change teams
Trade or bench his ass.thats the options.he will take the trade.and several teams would still be after him
This guy talks out of both sides of his mouth he talks about dak, like he just won a couple of superbowls.. Dak is kirk Cousins 😂
There trying to see the quarterback market
Dallas hasn't handled any contract properly. They always wait to the final minutes or tag guys then we lose them anyway. Jerry and Stephen simply do not know what they're doing. They've never built a true title contending team. Jimmy built that 90s team. That's why it all fell apart a couple years after Jimmy left and Dallas hasn't been the same since.

We don't blame on the Jones above everything. The game against Packers it was a shane for all the Cowboy Nation, and the responsables have name... Dak Presscot, Mike McCarthy, Dan Quinn, Micah Parsons, Tony Pollard... Coach and Players with a very poor performance in the most important game of the year. The Jones don't coach and play. It was a very frustating loss, historic. At the beginning of first quarter we've done!... whata shame. Jerry is being a gentleman with Mike and Dak, they deserve to be fired the next day!
RG3 Mat Ryan Andrew Luck
Shedeur Sanders or Trey Lance
Cant cut him, you wouldnt get a comp. Pick
Fuk yes
Yes Dak QB

0, I want to go ahead with a rebuild.
Tom Brady was a pick on 6th round!... hard to find someone like him, but We have Trey Lance to start and find someone else in 2025. 2024 isn't the concern...
Tom's take. "Dak is awesome, Top 10 MVP and the rest of the team sucks!"
The Joneses did this when they franchise tagged him daks going somewhere else and getting a ring
Yep he is getting some rings…. Some onion rings 😂
Bro is not winning here, winning there, or anywhere. Dak is not good.
@@dhog3153 dude Dak is better then you think. The Jhones haven't but the best players in his path
@DanielUlery he has had way more talent than Romo has ever had, bro.
@@dhog3153 yes and yet he has not had the line to stop shizz bro romo had a OF line. Dak has had wannabees

Dak wants 60 mill plus i wouldnt pay him that either.bye felicia

Pd state with Dallas cowboy 4 years
I just want to see Dak hit the open market so we can see just how sought after he is..
Derek Carr is a very good option to play in 2025 and help to develop Trey Lance.
I’m too poor to go to a cowboys game but if I were there, I would round up a group of disgruntled cowboys fans and boo the owner and his sidekick the whole game.
I like your mindset there
Problem is they were unsure about him during the last contract talks but yet they gave him another chance and signed him for big money, which by the way didn’t payoff. Time to eat the money and move on.
They just care about money and they are not getting anymore of mine
Dak Prescott
0
The Jones all this that Tom is saying. And IF IF IF Dak just leaves after the season, only compounds the mistake this franchise keeps doing. If you don't want him for 2025, fine, trade him to get draft capital. But this franchise is so lame, they will keep saying crap and still let him walk
Shadeur Sanders will be the QB of the Cowboys in 2025
No offense to you Tom i cant watch vids anymore it makes my blood boil
Start trey lance
If I were Dak Prescott, I would play out my contract and get the hell out of Dallas and get to a Better Run organization. Dallas is going nowhere fast.
😂😂😂😂 Dak is trash
Facts to both statements. Dak isnt the answer and dallas is not an organization attracted to getting better
If Dak truly wants a ring, take 50 mil and get players that can help, if not he is being selfish and just wants the money, pay me 50 mil and I'll git er done
So tell us all what gives you the confidence that if Dak took $50m that cap boy will then go spend money to get players that can help 🤔. This team hasn't spent money in almost 3 decades, including the years that they have had Dak on his rookie contract and then a team friendly deal for a few years after that. Now you think that they will spend money for top free agents if he takes a discount 🤔. Why?
Stephen Jones still not gonna spend money...
Stephen and Jerry are two broken old men. They make decisions through a kaleidescope.
Cowboys want to Draft Arch Manning 😂😂😂😂
Yes The Cowboys Don't Want To PAY 😮😮😮😮
Tendered Daka RAIDE
No!
No
How about cooper rush
He ain't even close to good enough kiddo he couldn't stsrt for any nfl team these days he isn't mobile and his arm is weak he will never be anything but a game manager for a quarter or two you need far more talent at qb
Nothing matters anyways as long as the carnival Barker runs the show! 30 years and counting!
The best QB in the 2025 QB ckass is Ewers
Jorda tarvise
It’s obvious that they are waiting to see what happens with Dak’s sexual assault investigation before they pay him.
Trey lance is QB I want in 2025
