- The 2024 NFL Draft is nearly here and the Cowboys have had a quiet offseason, setting themselves up for a critically important draft. Cowboys Trade rumors are due to heat up around the 2020 NFL Draft, since every year there are rumblings that Jerry Jones wants to make a splash. That hasn’t happened in several years, but there are some trade up targets who fit that mold this year. Cowboys Report host Tom Downey looks at several different trade scenarios for the Cowboys, including moves up, down and trading players away.

Draft is heavy at OT, OL in general, WR. I'd draft OL heavy and mostly stay where we are. I'd be open to going up to rams spot in first to get a higher level OT. Other than that I'd stay or move down.
100% . It still won't make us a playoff bound team but it would be a great step in the right direction. I have a feeling we're going to have a ton of undrafted free agents coming to camp with our horrible depth. We'll continue to find gems that compensate for our draft pick mistakes. I am certain there's a UDFA running back better than Vaughn and Tolbert. Stephens is already better than Schoonmaker

I would like to trade back in the first round and get the 30th-ish and a late third. Next I would trade that 1st for a 2nd and a third this year. That would give us 2 round 2 picks and 3 round 3 picks.

I've completely changed my draft strategy. The Cowboys should use their top picks to rebuild the defense. Using the top picks to rebuild the offensive line, get a running back, and even a wide receiver just means that the Cowboys are going to spend draft capital to let Prescott showcase himself in his free agent season. Prescott has cost the Cowboys too much already. He's a very good quarterback, but he isn't nearly as good as he thinks he is. He racks up statistics, but he doesn't rack up meaningful wins. He's cost the Cowboys a great deal of salary cap to rack up those statistics for himself, and that's a bad investment for Cowboys fans who want to see the team win another Super Bowl. I now oppose drafting anyone just to help Prescott look better as he spends 2024 trying out for his new team. Prescott can make do in 2024 with Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn. He and have his blind side protected by Chuma Edoga. He can through the ball to Cee Dee Lamb and Brandin Cooks. Maybe he can do something with the Jalens. Trading up or down, I don't want to take an offensive player in the first hundred picks. Let Prescott make do with what we have. If we weren't paying too much for him and facing millions of dollars in dead cap because of him in the future, we could afford to spend on our offense. As it is, we need to focus on the defense. If I draft an offensive player, I'll pick a developmental player who might not be a real contributor for a few years.
If I must trade up or trade down, I'd like to trade down. I'd even trade down into the forties if I can get three picks for one. Ideally, I'd end up with four picks between 40 and 110 and another pick between 110 and 150.
If I'm trading players, I think that the Cowboys could do better than getting a late round pick for Viliami Fehoko Jr.. The Cowboys aren't likely to win anything big after the 2024 or 2025 seasons. Anything can happen, but with the players that they have and the mistakes that they've made, the next two seasons should be rebuilding.
By the time the Cowboys are ready to win, Malik Hooker will be retired. I'd rather trade him now and get draft picks. I'm not sure what picks he could bring, but he could bring much more than Nahshon Wright could bring.
I'd also consider trading Zack Martin. He's been great for the Cowboys, but they are unlikely to win during what's left of his career. If they trade him, they can begin developing T.J. Bass or whomever is going to replace him. They could probably get at least one top 100 pick for him. That will hurt the offense in 2024, but again, I have no interest in building an offense to let Prescott showcase himself for his next team. We had already used the "Pay Zack" strategy to try to get him signed for a team-friendly price a few years ago. That's what you always say we should do. Then, the market rose; he wanted more money; he held out; and they gave him more of the salary cap. That's why the "Pay Dak," "Pay Zeke," or pay anyone else stuff sounds so stupid. Zack Martin made a business decision to hold out. The Cowboys should make the business decision to trade him and build draft picks for the future.
I'd consider trading DeMarcus Lawrence. I've heard that he took a lower salary to help the team win last year, so I'm a little more loyal to him. I'm a little less prone to dumping him. However, he's not likely to be playing when the Cowboys are good enough to reach a championship. Trading him now would give the Cowboys a chance to draft players who would be contributors to that championship run.
The obvious choice to trade is Dak Prescott. He has a no-trade clause, but if he came to realize that the Cowboys are not going to add a bunch of players to let him showcase himself in his free agent year, he might waive the clause and accept a trade now. If he'll accept a pre-draft trade, the Cowboys could pick up their new quarterback in this draft. If not, the Cowboys could trade him after June 1 and get a bunch of picks for 2025 and 2026.
I have nothing against trading Sam Williams, Viliami Fehoko Jr., or Chauncey Golston. On the other hand, I don't think that any of them would bring much real trade value. I'd rather give all three of them a chance to develop under the new defensive coordinator. They are all young enough to contribute to depth as the team moves forward. On top of that, the team needs defensive lineman going forward. If they get enough draft picks, maybe they can triple-dip along the defensive line.

I would take the Commanders trade for the 2nd & 3rd pick because the Cowboys will have more value picks

A smarter team like Green Bay, Kansas City or the Eagles are gonna draft WR Jermaine Burton who is a diamond in the ruff. Jerry and co. tend to draft a bunch of busts, of late. Malachi Corley's is NOT the 2nd coming of Deebo! Burton needs to be the WR pick. Burton is an athletic, versatile, and competitive receiving prospect. Burton has solid long speed combined with great quickness and agility, as well as an explosive lower body.
