Tbh that doesn't really sound like a metroidvania game. Its a genre defined by non-linearity so making it linear kinda defeats the whole purpose of the genre
You do back track for the story, it’s just not as confusing, or expansive. Imagine it’s a straight line with smaller offshoots that loop nicely. You still go forward and back, but you’re never lost or confused.
@@EljayIsHere I haven't played the game but that sounds more like a hub area with offshoots that are the levels of the game. For most people metroidvania games are about being lost and confused, and thats not for everyone
That’s fair :) the devs have said it’s a smaller compact metroidvania, and it plays that way. I think it’s just an indie team, so they didn’t have the resources to go big, so they went approachable.
Your comment made me do a double take: OH YEAH, 76 FOLLOWERS AND LESS THAN 3k VIEWS! It deserves so much more, you're right! I'll recommend it to some friends! :D
I got really into it, I’d just sit in my office playing all night every night. I loved it so much, but because of that burned out and never finished the game hahahaha
This is some good shit dude! It’s fresh and feels like it’s been made by someone who’s been at this for awhile. I’m honestly surprised to see that you don’t have more subscribers. Keep it up if this is something you feel like doing man! I hope to see more stuff from you
I was really excited for this game before it came out because I tried it at PAX and the movement was incredible. I played up until the first boss and was so disappointed by how boring it was that i pretty much dropped it. Great everything else but the bosses are just not it chief
Good Review...though I vehemently disagree with the begining. GIVE ME THOSE BIG MAPS! Not that small maps don't got a place...but yea big maps and bosses are not a problem with the genre at all. Do agree with the story bit though.
To clarify, I don't think that big maps are inherently bad... but I think everyone can agree that make the genre more inaccessible than most to new players. We want more people to love and appreciate that games we do! That said, Hollow Knight did the design REALLY well and was fairly easy to understand compared to more OG games in the genre.
I think iconoclasts was a pretty good metroidvania, it involved not very much backtracking. Though my problem in that game was figuring out where to go, sometimes. But really, worst genre? It's not even close. Some of the most well-respected indie games are metroidvanias.
That’s why I pinned that I like the genre and said I loved hollow knight :) I’m still figuring out how to package things. “This game makes a genre that’s inaccessible to a lot of new players more accessible” didn’t really work.
I actually love the genre, but you get what I mean lmao
No, I don't.
@@dacueba-games sounds like a you problem
Yeah click bait

dev should definitely play some megaman zero games lol
I heard some interviews by him, and he is pretty in deep on the genre!
1:18 Never finished it either
