    Hey everyone! I forgot to mention this in the video, but the sawhorse legs are 34" (864mm) long. The top beams are 36" (914mm) long. And the cross-braces are 30" (762mm) long. But you can adjust those dimensions to fit your needs. As long as the legs are made from 2x4 lumber, the template will work, no matter how long you make the legs.
    Also, if you use 2x4 lumber for the top beam, it will stick up an inch above the legs. That's intentional. So for example, if you're using a circular saw, the blade won't cut into the sawhorse legs. If the top beam gets chewed up, no big deal. You can slap another 2x4 in there, and keep going.

      There's a link in the description. But here it is again: drive.google.com/file/d/1dnzyMhkqXM4f9xIoHHVYt-W4AXJlyJb1
      You can download and print it. Make sure the line marked "1 Inch" on the template is actually an inch long (25.4mm). If it isn't, you may need to adjust the print settings. Enjoy!

    I make my horses with a 15 degree kick on the legs. Much more stable. Not that much more difficult to do. You simply set your bevel angle to 15 and your miter angle to 15.. Cut all your parts and assemble. With this design you will need to pay attention and make 4 left hand and 4 right hand legs. Great exercise for those who haven't dealt with compound angles before. Things I like about this design are the folding and the easily replaceable top plate. Someone below mentioned a shelf on the braces to provide the counterforce, Good idea. Hinge one side and attach a cleat to the other side where it would kinda wedge itself on the inside of the brace. Shelf would be very handy.

    Of all the designs out there, this one is by far the simplest, cheapest and easiest to make. I don't bother with the string, not essential. Just make your hinge bolts tight enough and the ground friction will do the rest. The greater the load on the horse the greater the force on the legs increasing ground friction. These things are incredibly strong. Made a pair for $20 and an hours work.

    Do the legs not force themselves open when you put weight on them?

    • @michaelblacktree
      @michaelblacktree  3 года назад

      On a slippery surface, that might be a concern. If that's the case, then you could use a tow strap (or something similar) instead of the bungie cord.

    • @michaelblacktree
      @michaelblacktree  3 года назад +1

      You could use an image editing program to resize the image. Here in the US, a 2x4 is about 89mm wide. So you would need to scale up the image by 10%.

    • @michaelblacktree
      @michaelblacktree  Год назад

      It keeps the sawhorse tight. This sawhorse design has a drawback: if the legs open up, the top of the sawhorse gets loose. In other videos, you see people doing something similar, with a strap or a locking mechanism or whatever. That's why.

      @@michaelblacktree Thanks for the reply, sorry if I was harsh.
      I'm trying to come up with a way to explain this constructively.
      A lot of fine carpentry involves visio-spatial reasoning, the facility for which is actually a somewhat rare. The scanning of templates subverts that visio-spacial reasoning. It is very hard to explain the folding and manipulation of space - solely in the human brain.
      Something [apparently] as simple as workbench legs that spread to one side at a certain angle, and also angle to compensate for any overhang of the work-top, and simultaneously wedge onto the bench itself? That is hard to do accomplish and harder to explain. But, woodworkers have been doing this for a thousand or two thousand years - since Roman times at least.
      Thus my frustration.
