Wow N6K I worked on that plane years ago! I put the engines on and we’re overhauled along with props. Replaced the spinners as well. Installed the engine monitor. Nice plane flown in it for maintenance checks and for a trip for a expensive hamburger😆 with the owner. I helped find it a new owner which was another customer of mine with a piper and wanted a twin. He wanted it painted and went went that scheme. It has the STC for those 520’s and props. There is an AD on those props you have to check. Pretty extensive from what I remember. They didn’t want to upgrade the props at that time to eliminate the recurring AD. Yes I tied to get both engines with slick mags but the owner was stubborn on bendix and finally let me talk him into the slicks when I did the firewall forward on the left. Very nice plane.
Thanks Keith! I thought I remembered seeing your name in the logbooks, I will have to go back and look again! The props were just overhauled in 2021, have about 117 hours on them. N6K really moves with IO520's, fun plane to fly for sure.
I think I started taking car of it 2007ish. George had the plane and moved to florida from Ohio. He flew it for several more years then sold it. He used it for work and would go long cross the country trips. He was getting older and hung it up. Steve bought it and upgraded it a-lot. I seen it has dual yoke installed. Steve had bought that when he took to the avionics shop. Yeah the 520’s really make that plane scoot! Have a good one 👍🏻
Consider replacing the chrome spinners with straight aluminum or painted spinners. The chrome hides cracks until complete failure. ABS Tech Clinic brought that up and I didn’t make the change until after I experienced it.
Are the ProFlight Series 2 headset comfortable in the Barron? Was thinking of getting another headset and still fly general aviation piston aircraft mostly, was told not to get them until im flying jets but have seen plenty of people wearing them in prop planes. Beautiful Barron btw!
They run about 360-370 on climb out. They weren't running hot, but the baffles seals were the originals and needing replacing with the summer coming and higher OAT's to keep them running on the cooler side.
Brings back some nice memories...and those engine sounds too!
