Truer words have never been spoken. After having 3 Jackies at the same time, I learned to love them for what they are. Silly, sneaky, loud, always on guard duty, easy to spoil and 1000% devoted to their pawrents. My heart is wrapped up in Goldies but the Jackies add so much life to the home. If I could afford it I’d have 3 more Jackies again.

I absolutely adore the Jack Russell. A lovable and amazing little JRT blessed our home for 15 years until he passed in October2022.
I love to see videos that promote all the great things about JRTs. But I also like to see that accurate information about the things that aren’t so great included, too. Some people don’t learn about those things, then get a JRT puppy who ends up getting dumbed later. How cruel it is to take a pup from its litter mates, allow it to bond with your family, then abandon it because it’s more work than expected!
On that note, most JRTs, especially the short smooth coats, are shedders!!!!! It never stops.
JRTs are NOT the best fit for a family with other small pets or small children. Their prey drive is hard wired in and not likely to be successfully extinguished (or muted) through training. It’s been bred into every inch of their tightly packed little muscle bound bodies, from their very beginnings.
Jack Russells are generally friendly with adults who are welcomed into the home by you, and also with well balanced pet visitors, but it will also depend a great deal on how well they’ve been socialized. Remember, they’ve been consistently bred to hunt, they’re athletic, protective, high energy, agile, surprisingly strong and fast, and they absolutely have no fear.
It could not end well at all for a family with cats and toddlers who adopts a young JRT based on inaccurate information about their temperament. Someone who doesn’t have a clear understanding of the ways this is a BIG dog inside a little dog’s bod will have more than one rude awakening. But by learning about the breed and how not to assume anything about their behavior or capabilities based on their small size Before adopting one, this lovable, clever, funny, and never boring little super dog will be hard to outdo!!

My spouse retired right at 2 years ago and he can’t understand why the youngest follows him all day. I’ve told him that she is inquisitive about her newest all day companion, why he is at home now rather than gone. They are best buds which actually gives me some much appreciated Mr time.
