    We sell both ajp and kove...i drove both 450 rally and pr7.
    450 rally is lighter,lower cog,much less vibration,better build quality,better suspension and price. In offriad, feels slcloser to a big bore hard enduro bike,than an adventure bike. And in the same time,very good.road manners.
    Pr7 has more torque and power from.the bottom, but more vibrarion and.
    And has better seat

    Forgot to mention that I like the price of the Kove, but I’m not really sure if it’s actually cheap, or just cheap in comparison to the crazy expensive KTM dakar bikes?

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden 3 месяца назад +7

      Actually the Kove is not so cheap. We have seen the dollar prices, but they add a lot of charges on top after purchase. The T7 costs $10,799 in the US so you should compare that. The Swedish reseller of Kove sells it for 140K SEK in Sweden. Pretty much same as PR7. I would go PR7 before Kove also :)

      Thanks for the info, Rob!
      Hmm, a Kove or a T7, that's tough. I also wonder if 140k SEK is cheap for a rally bike, or is the price of a rally bike hyper inflated because of the Austrians?

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden 3 месяца назад +3

      Price is on par with the competition but when I looked closer at the Kove the only up-side is large tanks. The PR7 wins the rest for me. Maintenace intervalls and power specially.@@JohannesDalen

      Here in Belgium/The Netherlands the Kove 450 standard costs 10,499 Euros. The AJP PR7 costs 13,685 Euros (more expensvie than the standard Yamaha T700 ) A Kove 450 rally replica costs 19,999 euro. Still way cheaper than a KTM 450 rally replica (>30,000 Euros). I own a Honda CRF450L (bought second hand with all the main modifications such as the Vortex ECU) and modified it for enduro/adventure riding. As you say weight is king. If I did not own this great, very capable Honda I would go for the Kove.

I am currently travelling in latin america, 12,500 miles of Argentina has shown me one thing. While the T7 continues to be amazing and surprises me continually- i want less weight and more fuel! I bought a PR7. It is my favorite bike I have ever owned. The build quality is superb. The ZF Sachs suspension is very good. It will get better as I tune the settings. It handles like a much lighter bike. The PR7 is as close to the perfect adv bike that has ever been produced.
    I did a lot of research and took a gamble. I own one of the few PR7'S in the US. The "off-road competition only" tune on the US model absolutely rips.
    I plan on removing the graphics from my PR7 as well. I haven't decided if I will replace them with a custom wrap (I have a friend who does that) or if I will leave it plain white.

      The WR250R is really amazing. Sometimes I do miss a bit more power but not that often that I'd thought I would.
      The biggest issue is that it isn't an "expensive" bike and spending something like more than half the bikes worth on the suspension, can be hard to justify. Both for myself and the missus. But with my 196cm and 96kg without gear, I definitely should..

If I recall correctly you had the CC version, and I had the OC version. I'm aware of a few forum threads where people have reported that recommended spring rates from RR has been too stiff, I also believe RR themselves went out and changed the recommendations as well. My theory is that it's a combination of too much damping and limited amount of travel, since the sag was correct.

I have a 701 and a 890 adv r but think that I’ll add a PR7 to replace them both when I move to Portugal this Spring. I really love my 701 engine but find that susp too harsh. Same for the 890. Thank you Paulo! If you're moving to Portugal, you just have to get yourself a PR7. Based on my somewhat limited experience with it, it sits right in between the 701 and 890. Closer to the 701, but it's a more relaxed ride capable of covering distance as well. Engine not as crazy as the 701, but more tractable and gentle. I will eventually make a 701 vs pr7 once I have enough experience with the new Portuguese stallion. Thanks for watching!

    I agree that both of these bikes are very interesting. I think that the PR7 absolutely makes sense, especially if you live in Europe. I wonder if it'd be different if you were in the US. As far as I'm aware there are very few PR7s in the US and I bet the part support is not as good. There might even be more Koves now in the US than PR7s. Of course the Kove also doesn't have an impressive dealer/parts backing here either. I could totally be wrong though, the PR7 is certainly very rare here so I don't know as much about it.

I also want to ride the 701 again as I've progressed as a rider since owning one, so the comparison is as fair as possible. After a few short rides on the PR7 I've already discovered that it does a few things the 701 didn't. Stay tuned my friend, it will come :)

    In Austria you can´t licence the PR7 with full power. You can only register it legally with 28 HP. Is it the same for you in Norway? Do you ride it with the restricted HP? The Kove fullfils the new Euronorm and can be ridden with 51 HP which makes it way more attractive

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  3 месяца назад

      Only 28hp? That's heavily de-tuned. Mine is "corked" at 48hp. If you get the race tune with full Doma exhaust it'll have around 60hp. 48 is adequate but 28 hp from a 600cc engine sounds extremely low!

      @@JohannesDalen Just double-checked: To fulfill the Euro 4 norm it has to be restricted to 28 hp, because of the exhaust fumes. It´s the same for the EXC450(18,3hp) and EXC500(14,5hp). It´s not like we (EU residents) don´t want to ride these bikes, but we don´t want to ride them illegally in case of an insurance issue/accident. That´s why there is way more hype about the KOVE 450 because you can get it legally with 42 hp

    The PR7 is a good choice in my opinion, if I was 30 years younger I would have one in my garage, I love the concept of the bike.
    As for the Kove I can see the merit of the bike but it is, to me anyway a little more focused towards a rally bike, if my main focus was riding in the outback and crossing deserts like the Simpson it would be great, the PR7 is probably a better all rounder.
    Adventure bikes and riding covers such a wide spectrum that the unicorn will always remain a myth, one bike will never do it all, manufacturers do a lot of research into which bikes will pay them back for their investment, making bikes for a small segment of the market is not worth the cost.
    The PR7 and Kove are built by small companies owned by ex racers who wanted to build a bike for them, they are passionate about the bike, big companies prefer to sell to the masses, hence more cautious with the design to a degree.
    A KTM 690 rally would be cool but the expense would be prohibitive for many, I would take a guess that most riders buy a 690/701 for the power alone, not the practicality of the bike, it’s what you may call dick swinging. 😂😂😂
    The DR650 is the unicorn bike, part of the reason it lasted 25+ years unchanged. 😂😂😂😂😂

      The two sentences in the middle there is what I say to everyone who says "the market screams for a lightweight twin at 500cc, 140kg, 21/18 wheels and long service intervals". No it doesn't - it may sound like that in the YT comment sections, but the big manufacturers do their homework and knows what will sell. This was completely cemented in my brain when I checked the sales numbers of the GS compared to other bikes.
      Hope all is well down under mate!

    As a similar sized rider to yourself I'd rather have a de-tuned 600 over a de-tuned 450 for the street portions of a ride. Plenty of jam to pass safely on the hills, guessing 40+ at the wheel? I'm still thinking about something lighter than these two, let's say a suspension-pimped up Honda CRF 300 L. She's about 20 kg lighter (145-165 kg), easier to pick up on gnarly solo rides. I'm not 25 anymore ;-) Günter/Nürnberg

      I've too been thinking about getting a used 300L and throwing Rally Raid suspension on it, see how capable I could get. Issue is I'd quickly end up paying pretty close to what I paid for the PR7, that already comes "race ready". Another issue for me is the size of the 300L, it's quite small. Also, you don't need RR suspension for the 300L, you'd be fine with cheaper suspension - I rode a YSS upgraded 250L in Portugal and I found it excellent!

    Longer suspensiontravel is great, but not when its dives if you break hard or jump. Think the Kove will not be huge succsess in Scandinavia. Just becurse it short oil and filter intervals. From the videos I have seen the Kove seems quite slow actually and has to be revved way high to get some power. I think it's lacking in the engine department, at least for European ADV conditions.
    Same reason why I probably wouldn't want a CRF 300 and similar. Even my T7 is starting to feel slow after a few years of riding it. (On he road, obviously)
    It feels to me like a big part of the ADV community forgot that bikes should actually be fun to ride and """reliability""" is becoming the the be-all end-all argument for how a bike is judged. (Which goes hand in hand with European brand bashing 😆)

      Good point regarding reliability vs fun - it's something I've been wanting to discuss for some time, but I've never figured how to approach it. It's not necessarily a Japan vs Euro-bikes discussion, but rather how some people seem to think reliability is more important than what the bike actually makes you feel. I guess the best way to get both is to have two bikes: one fun euro (PR7) and one ultra reliable bike from Japan (mystery bike) 😉

    Major attribute for me not to buy the Kove would be the fact that it is Chinese. While many other OEMs actually also have their stuff produced in China, clearly I‘d rather go with something assembled in Portugal (or anywhere in Europe). I wonder whether you considered the Fantic XEF 450 Rally. Japanese technology (and hopefully reliability) mixed with Italian emotions sounds like a great recipe to me. This would probably be my top choice, albeit more pricey.

      I've seen the Fantic 450 rally once in person, sweet bike, absolutely. Interesting components as well, it's pretty much a Yamaha in different colors, isn't it? I've never seen or heard much about it being for sale here in Norway. Did it compete in this years Dakar, do you know?
