Thanks for putting the Kove 450 Rally through its paces. I fervently hope that the off road oriented Chinese 450 ADV bikes will finally force the big motorcycle manufacturers to sell us the bikes we've begged them to make for over a decade, instead of reluctantly selling us 300 cc "entry level" ADV bikes designed to get us on the upgrade path to their expensive bloated heavy mid size and full size ADV bikes.

@@HardRoad2Travel - Agreed. In other posts under videos of the Kove 450 Rally and CF Moto 450MT, I've posted "I wish them every success" and expressed hope that they take sales away from the big motorcycle manufacturers that refused to make the lightweight, powerful and off road capable ADV bikes that we begged them to produce for over a decade.

I don't understand how a underpowered 450 would make a great ADV bike. My 300l has had zero issues from day one, runs flawless and can hang with these guys on the trails their doing and it only cost me $5,300!

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever 6 месяцев назад +1

@@mxbadboy263 - You got a good buy on that 300L. A friend finally found a 300L Rally last summer and I think he paid over $7000 for it? I paid $4920 out the door for a new 2019 BMW G310GS in late October of 2020 and it too has been 100% reliable. The three year warranty just elapsed, completely unused. It's never been to the dealer. I do the maintenance myself and it's been cheap to keep. It has way more power than I need off road and just the right amount of power for the back roads where I usually ride. It'll cruise all day at 70 MPH on the highway but it's revved high and is close to max power. If my idea of adventure included more highway riding, I'd want another 15 HP.

One could just add a "add a circuit" fuse into the fuseblock and either repin an existing switch or add a new one to the bar. This way you would not have to jump through the menu hoops to inactivate ABS. Just straight ON/OFF.

Kove could take one thing from the CRF300L/Rally - there's a button on the dash that you hold for 2 seconds to disable the rear ABS. Yes, it would be nice to be able to set a 'power-on' default, but I think it's a legal requirement that it defaults to on, but having a single button press/hold is much better than having to go through the menu.

If i'm not making any mistake, Aprilia on the Tuareg 660 found another solution to go around this legal limitation : You can change the riding mode with a simple button, and the off-road mode has the rear abs off by default. And I think I remember from my test ride that when you turn on the bike, it sticks to the last riding mode, therefore needing nothing to keep the ABS off 24/7.
That being said, it only takes a small push on a button to change mode and therefore to deactivate the rear ABS, which I didn't found to be that smart has it could be easily done by mistake, like with big gloves on a slippy road during winter. The exact same setting with a validation for the off road mode would be perfect.

FWIW, my Triumph Tiger (and probably various other ADV bikes) has the same annoying reset to ABS on behavior with key off, so I stop it with the kill switch (and then forget that the kill switch is off), or just stall it and then know I'm not going to roll away.
The coolant temp thing does seem to be a glitch. I wonder if it happens if you stall it instead of using the kill switch.

KOVE is building a new 2024 Dakar bike, 450 Ralley EX, which has 11 more ponies(65) 5 more ft lbs torque & is 38lbs lighter. Why? Because they finished Dakar but now really want to win. This hp is where it should be.

I do not believe it to be a software issue. When you are moving the cooling system is operating to keep the coolant at the normal temperature. Now that you have stopped there is nothing to cool the coolant so it increases in temperature for a short while and then begins to cool. This is completely normal.

That ABS annoyance is on my KTM 390 as well, super annoying, but it's not just Kove. I kinda wonder if it's a safety thing for the road? Not sure about the overheating, I never experienced that and I rode it in 100 plus degrees. As far as all these first year blips go, it's really not too bad. No engines are seizing or major issues. I can recall KTM and Beta having some major issues over the years. No bike is perfect of course, but I think Kove is on to something great and it's only going to get better.

The oilleak should be fixable for any future bikes, if this is a widespread problem. If your fuel leak is, would have been nice do declare, if you deleted the canister or not. The problem with the ABS is sadly widespread everywhere. Don't know, why they can't have an option in the software, where you can setup up how the ABS should start. Maybe with a little reminder every start and a few menus where you declare, that the manufacturer is not liable for any accidents with this setting in that way.
With the temperature it is not a software bug, the display is showing exactly what the sensor is reading. When I stop the engine on an Tenere700, because I want to roll down a hill, as long as the engine is not circulating the coolant, the temperature will rise because of the heat in the engine. Nothing to worry about anything there.

Not a bug. Sounds like the kIll switch might kill the waterpump together with the engine (as it shoud). When the kill switch is not activated, the waterpump drives circulation even without the engine running as long as ignition is keyed on. I am guessing.... ( Addition: As Patrik correctly mentiones below most waterpumps in todays stock bikes are gear driven and therefore will most likely not be disconnected from the engine. The fan will be but not the waterpump.) Thanks for the reminder Patrik.

Three bikes give you a sample size of three. That increases your statistical confidence and/or reduces the time for adequate testing.
Alternatively, you can think of the total hours ridden as your sample size. Either way, you're after the mean time between failures (for your fleet or for each bike). From your description, you haven't had any Kove caused failures, you had two short-comings that should have been found and corrected during dealer prep, dealer test ride, and/or user preventive maintenance, checks, and services (aka PMCS). If you consider these rides to be the dealer test rides and your PMCS, then re-start the clock now.

It will be interesting. I'm just not sure what you'll be comparing to. If it's a KTM 500, with expensive upgrades, severe imbalance due to large desert tank (carried high), I would bet you'll see a similar depreciation. So if it proves to be reliable and keeps doing what it is doing for those seeking this type of bike, you may see both brands/bikes dropping $3-4k in value. So yes, the Kove would drop a higher percentage. But the cost to own may be similar, with a bike that handles better out of the box (literally), at an entry point that is 2/3 the KTM that really wasn't built for this use. Go into ADV bikes--way more weight, less offroad capability. Rally Replica...yeah, that will lose the depreciation argument. Just as these guys are looking at the great range offered, this bike fills a specific gap not found elsewhere.

This review seems a bit harsh. Every bike I know of resets the ABS and other settings when the key is turned off. It's annoying but understandable, you have to make everything idiot proof these days. I actually don't mind this. Let's say I was off road last weekend and had the ABS and traction control off. This weekend I take off on a street ride and some muppet pulls out in front of me. If I have forgotten to turn the ABS back on I will probably become a hood ornament. What if the pavement is wet and I have forgotten that the traction control is off, I hit the throttle in a corner a little too hard expecting the bike to compensate and the rear passes the front of the bike? I would rather be annoyed at resetting it after turning the key off. As far as the "oil leak" one should go over all of the fasteners on a new bike before they jump on and take off. I am sure this happens with all manufacturers. It is usually caught when the dealership assembles them and checks everything. The heat sensor is only telling you what is actually happening, it isn't a glich at all. Turn the engine off and stop circulating the coolant and the temp goes up for a while. Turn it off with the key and it will still happen, you just won't know about it. If a couple of fluid leaks is all that went wrong on a brand new model of bike then KOVE did an outstanding job! I mean look at all of problems the KTM 790 had at first. I mean, one must spend about 2 grand on a CRF450RL to make it ridable out of the box. We have been buying KLR's, DR's and XR's for decades with know problems much worse than a fuel leak that we must fix. In my book, if this is the worst of the problems then they did a fantastic job! I am going to look into buying one! I am going to look at the low seat version. What a brilliant idea! Do you know if anyone has done a ride review on that model?
