You can't equate a BMW to a typical car. Its designed to be leased, not owned, as leasing is 80% of their market. That means they are literally designed to fail after the first renter. The crazy weight is due to the massive X straps slapped on the bottom when the roof was chopped off. Bad design by bad engineers. Horrible, even. The suspension is broken, not stiff. The DCT was cancelled by BMW for the same reason all DCTs are disappearing. Ford just lost a law suit, requiring them to buy back every DCT car they've sold. DCTs are fragile, so fragile, they are essentially all defective out of the box.
I have owned 5 BMWs with mileage ranging from 60k-120k. They all had small issues that were fairly simple to fix myself. I respect anyone who wants to own or lease these cars. Preferably, I would rather save money by buying used.

Dude, read your book first before publishing your biased comments. If the DCT is badly designed than tell me why Ferrari has used the F1 transmission from 355 all the way up to today's SF90? The earlier F1 is basically H-pattern box with actuators and it is considered to be a manual transmission, same transmission as the three pedal Ferraris, with electro-hydraulic actuation of the gear shift and clutch actuation. The goal is to help drivers shifting faster and spend more time on the upcoming turns, so that we too can be like racecar drivers. DCTs are not fragile by default, they are fragile because of the high performance gear shifting used by the drivers after certain period of time. You need to replace the clutch and other component and it is the price you pay for owning cars like M3 DCT or F355 F1. There are still many high performance cars with DCTs being made as we speak, they might be upgraded with dual clutch but the principle is the same. You don't have to like the DCT but please don't make a personal conclusion based on your terrible experience.
