    I got 4 dogs to take out. Worries me we have deer, cats possums raccoons an coyotes roaming according to our cameras. You seem to have it down pat. Wishing you a Merry Christmas. Hoping you have a wonderful place to spend the day with loved ones.

    You are a man at peace in his environment. There’s just nothing like a log cabin in the woods on a snowy morning…with a rooster crowing.
    Time for some seasonal decor, a wreath on the door perhaps?

    I get up early down here in middle Tennessee, sometimes 3 a.m. Have to wait for sunlight/ around 7, to go feed my chickens. Eggs are over $4 a dozen down here. I have been selling my eggs for $3 a dozen…..quite the deal. Have you ever done a video tour of your cabin? That was be interesting.

      I haven’t done an inside tour of my cabin. That’s something you’d be interested in seeing? I’m in a holler and the sun is a little slower getting to me in the morning. Sometimes I get up before sunrise and go out to watch the sun come over the top of the mountain. Beautiful!
      Nice that you have a market for your extra eggs. Sounds like we have similar lifestyles.., take care

    Beautiful peaceful video, so much snow! We don’t get much down here on the Gulf coast . 80* here today. Your chickens look good for being in such cold . What is your water source there?

    • @Selkirk_Homestead
      @Selkirk_Homestead  Месяц назад +1

      Chickens are adapted to the environment here. Have a well that gives plenty of water. Was in the San Antonio area two Summers back in the 70s. Remember how humid it was and I prefer the cold over that.

  • @alpinealpine2793
    @alpinealpine2793 Месяц назад +1

    Look, a new project! A moisture deflector above the little chicken door. Is there ever the chance that your cabin could freeze in winter? If so better to keep the eggs in the fridge. My winters don't get that cold so leaving unwashed eggs out is no drama.

    • @Selkirk_Homestead
      @Selkirk_Homestead  Месяц назад +1

      Power here goes out on a regular basis lately. Eggs should never freeze if left out though as I keep the cabin warm using the wood stove. Just hard habit to break about putting eggs in fridge. I’ve got to make a few changes to the chicken coop next year. Need a deflector over the door, and a more slanted roof over the egg boxes.

    Why do you have to put Earl on the leash but not Coal? Beautiful home!

    • @Selkirk_Homestead
      @Selkirk_Homestead  Месяц назад +2

      Thanks, Earl doesn’t obey. If loose he will take off and run. One day I was out for a walk with both dogs and the leash broke. Yep, he took off and refused to listen to me. Finally he came back and ran right by me back to the cabin. Earl being a Seppala husky will kill small animals… like chickens. So he’s always on a leash outside. Good observation….

    Do you have any alternative energy set up in case the grid fails? My place is all solar. That said, my homes footprint is < 1000 sqft. I use EcoFlow ultra with several batteries and 6 panels. For extended times of poor sunlight, l recharge with gas generator 30amp. Just wondering if you've given it thought.

    • @Selkirk_Homestead
      @Selkirk_Homestead  Месяц назад +3

      I had a total offgrid cabin I built about 20 years ago. 100% solar. I’d like to get a solar system for the reasons you describe. They are way cheaper now than when I had mine. No lithium batteries back then. I used golf cart batteries.

      Chickens are more something to do than anything else. Eggs are just a little bit of why I have chickens. One of the main reasons I started a channel was to have communication with others from a distance. Like you….
