This was beautifully done. Thank you for sharing your story and I will continue to follow your family as you establish your homestead. What a lovely spot. My husband and I are 71 years old and recently bought a 200 year old house in Bear River, Nova Scotia. It was calling to us and we are thoroughly enjoying this new life.
There is no place more beautiful and humbling than Newfoundland...it is my dream to go back...but times running out at 70. I hope you live my dream. Wendy Ontario
Fantastic Choice!! Of all the places you brought us along, that was the place that I was hoping you'd pick. Can't wait to see how the adventure unfolds. Congratulations and best wishes!! Frank----Alberta, Canada
I couldn't be happier for you and your family. What an incredibly legacy to leave your children - a life in the wild. All the best, fellow Newfoundlander. xx
New sub here! Looking forward to your videos. Your new homestead has so much promise! Good luck in 2025 and be healthy, you have made the right decision. God Bless
Hi wendy, rick here, i read your comment about your desire to return to nfld & about time running out at 70 yrs. This is true that at 70 you definitely have less time than at say 20, however , if you really wish to return & can manage it, i would go & spend the rest of your time enjoying the life on that beautiful place, who knows, if you're healthy, you could have many more yrs ahead of you. What am i going on about? Well, at 76yrs soon to click one more over on the clock, i have purchased a place in nfld out by sandy cove, about an hr from st anthony, i just have to finish the sale of my place & i'm outa here as they say, absolutely can't wait. This may be my last adventure. I've been west several times, even lived in alberta for a year but i"ve never been east until about a month ago , i drove out with two friends. They bought a place & i put an offer on my new home which was accepted, couldn't be happier, more excited. Sorry, long winded but when i watched this nice video & i always read some of the comments, i read yours & it touched the olde heart strings. I guess the long & short of this is, if you truly desire to return to your grande olde rock, you owe it to yourself before it is truly too late. Sincerely, hoping that you take no offence, ric, ontario canada, my escape will be sometime in the spring of this year. Please have a very happy new year.
Wonderful comment, I needed to hear this, I'm considering and planning a move in early Spring of this year, not to nfld, but to an area which speaks to me. I just turned 72 yesterday, but I can't just sit in a chair waiting to die. Thanks for your comment!
So loving all the photography. ❤ I'll likely never see Newfoundland in life so I'm living vicariously through your beautiful photos. Thanks for the video. Congratulations! Enjoy your journey. ~ Deb, from Idaho, USA.
Hello! I just found your channel this morning. Watching this video made me cry tears of joy for you all. I have subscribed and will look forward to the next installment. Wishing you a wonderful life.! I'm from Ontario ❤
Thank you! Wow that sounds like an interesting place, one day I’ll visit the west coast of Canada, I’ve yet to make it there unfortunately. I think I might like it too much !
Congrats on finding your new home. I know you will do great because you have the passion for it. I also lost my mom at 59, that was 22 years ago and not one day goes by that I don't miss her. The kids will learn so much growing up in this environment. Looking forward to seeing this journey.
Hi, i've binge watched your entire set of videos, what a great movie this has made. Congratulations upon your finally finding your new home, it looks great ,you took an awful lot of time & effort to find it, now all you have to do is settle in, work really hard for the next 50 yrs & love nearly every minute of it. What a grande thing you folks are doing, wow. I myself am moving out there from this overstuffed over crowded province to your paradise in the spring , i've had an accepted offer to purchase in sandy cove, about an hr from st anthony. Am looking for'ard to becoming a citizen of that beautiful newfoundland. Congrats to you all once again, please have a great new year in your new home. Ric, ontario canada.
Congratulations on this great news, and what a wonderful way to end 2024 and begin 2025--so happy that you got the property that "felt" right (I have bought real estate three times, always based on the feeling I had -- I knew immediately all 3 times I had found what I was looking for, i.e., that feeling). Such a heartfelt tribute to your lovely Mother, and see her picture at the very end was especially touching--she is there with you in spirit, as she is always in your heart. My guess is she'll be the Guardian Angel for you, your beautiful children and the land. So sweet to see your kids and dogs immediately enjoying the property--lifelong memories are already being made. This next 12-16 weeks will be both exciting and challenging as you get your home ready for full-time use--cannot wait to see in upcoming videos how that unfolds for you. Blessings to you, your family and your Mom.
Oh this is amazing! I live.in NB and NL is one trip list. I work for a transportation company that comes to NL lots. All the drivers LOVE coming to NL. All the best. I have subscribed. So sorry about you Mom hugs.
This area was my family vacation destination when I was a teenager. Unsurpassed beauty at every turn. Wishing you every success on your new life adventure and God bless.
I just found your channel and so enjoyed your video. I am from Ontario and made a road trip to Newfoundlandland last fall and loved the rock. Your narration and photograph are beautifully. I look foreword to watching your adventures.
So sorry for the loss of your mom. It is so sad that sometimes it takes these challenges to help us shift our perspective. Your new homestead looks like it's going to be a great place to build a life. Congratulations, and may 2025 be a wonderful year for your family!
Hope you're family enjoys the new adventure your starting just bought a peace of land myself can't wait to start that new project merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all ✌️😁
I was drawn in when you talked about your mom being where home was. I too felt the same. My soul wandered for many years before I found my forever home. My blessings go out to you and your family. I look forward to watching your journey.
I am new to your channel. Wife, mother and grandma living in Ontario. Looking forward to following in your new adventures. Amazing how well your video was done. Thanks for sharing. 🇨🇦
New subscriber😊. Your video just popped up for me. Looking forward to your new adventure! Great video! A great reminder that we all need to live our dreams and not put them off ❤️ Everyday is a gift from God 🙏🏼
You are luckier than you know, back to basics, your animals and your children will teach you , they have minimal requirements learn from them, when the world is in turmoil and everyone wants more, you have it all, enjoy as time goes so quickly, in the blink of an eye you will be 70 years old, so enjoy 👴🏻👍
Sustainability always leads back to community. You could connect with Tiny and the the food production project being developed in Raleigh, very near your new homesite. The people there will have good energy, knowledge and resources to share with you to help you develop your own food production. .
We have an off-grid cabin on the west coast or as we call it the best coast. We have a channel too and there maybe be some tips and tricks on there that may help you. We garden as well. Good luck on your journey and cheers from da ROCK!
Happy for you Alicia and fam. Newfie here. Let me know if I can assist in knowledge. OH BTW Marble was founded and created by my family of which I continue to be proud of! Happy homesteading.
Wow, what a great adventure. Your land is beautiful, especially with the water so close by. I was wondering what breed of dog is your larger dog? We have a dog that we got but they didn’t know the breed, just that she was a mixed breed. Our dog looks exactly like your larger dog.
It is a lovely location, but I would have wanted more than one acre. That is what my parents have and I always felt closed in while there, granted about half of it was swampy marshland so that didn’t help things either. Maybe you can get a few more acres later on once you have had time to get settled.
I would have loved to find something with more acreage but we had to give in on something unfortunately. I’ve seen some very successful small homesteads, it will be limiting in ways but I’m sure we can make it work.
@@OutdoorLifeOnTheRock - agreed, it can be done….it’s just a little difficult trying to decide what to put on the acre without being crowded. I know my parents did well with chickens and rabbit on their acre, there may be other animals that would do well on one acre. Hopefully you may be able to buy a few more acres sometime in the future.
Haha, countless searching, there is a series I made on it, it’s linked at the end of the video! Pretty much I searched multiple times a day, from real estate websites, to marketplace, and local ads. You just need to be in the right place at the right time. And keep looking even when it seems like you won’t ever find it!
Thank you, I am curious as well. The previous owner said there was no fish there. But we have lakes on both sides of us. I’m sure we’ll find some! Though I have not fished much since I was a kid, something for us to dive into soon.
Looks like you will be getting a LOT of wind !!! One acre isn't very big ....my city lot is half an acre !!! Wondering how it was allowed to actually purchase a one acre lot in what Looks like a wilderness surrounding !!
You need to put a front porch on so you can put the firewood on the porch to keep it dry and also make it a mudroom/arctic room that you can shut the door and the wind doesn’t come into your home when you open your front door to go in
Imagine the winter winds coming from the open area from the water. Not many trees near the place for a wind break. That place is 2 stories and will take a lot to heat with a wood stove in the wintertime.
Such a beautiful part of Canada, NFLD is heaven

Terry,
Your 200 year old home in NS is beautiful I would think. Be sure to share!
Welcome to Nova Scotia! From the French shore….
Must be beauty there
Best lobster I ever had was in NS
Wow that sounds like a treasure of a spot as well! I’m so happy for you both.
Thank you so much! 🥰

Thank you so much!! Glad you agree 🥰 we can’t wait to get out there full time, thanks for tagging along for the ride!
I couldn't be happier for you and your family. What an incredibly legacy to leave your children - a life in the wild. All the best, fellow Newfoundlander. xx

What a great setup , looks more like a million acres than one!😊

Thank you, that means so much.
Time doesn’t change grief, I’m learning slowly. But we can find ways to live with it, sometimes find purpose from it.
Excited for your family and looking forward to following you on your new journey. Watching from Texas
Thank you! 🥰

Beautifully done. I’ll be following along. The fly fisher in me has to ask……..the adjacent river, does it hold salmon and brook trout?
Thank you, I am curious as well. The previous owner said there was no fish there. But we have lakes on both sides of us. I’m sure we’ll find some! Though I have not fished much since I was a kid, something for us to dive into soon.

Awesome! How cold does it get in winter where you are?
Are you allowed to build barn etc, improvements on your home or do you need permits??
It looks remote but are you on the grid? Have a town nearby?
You need to put a front porch on so you can put the firewood on the porch to keep it dry and also make it a mudroom/arctic room that you can shut the door and the wind doesn’t come into your home when you open your front door to go in
