@@lytheus69 The moment I played this game for the first time in 2003-4 not knowing what to do where to go, as I made progress as to understanding how the game operates I was hooked. I think I've made over 60 accounts. I quit around I think 2010-11 it was because of the updated graphics and the 10x hits that was the final straw for my likings. Now that OSRS is around I just hop on every now and again. I can understand how some people take this game seriously, but I could totally understand it if you couldn't see the point in playing this game. It'll forever have a place in my mind that's for sure. The community felt different back then though.

@@omarbashar9161 Damn right. At least for me and my friends, it was about dicking around and not the grind. we'd play castle wars or clan wars for hours straight. Grinding for skills for us back in the day was few and far between except for maybe a new quest requirement. Nostalgia is a bitch cuz we'll never get that feeling back.

I looked into that CC and saw their crazy shit and immediately noped right out of there. I made my house nice for ME to use and so should you. Don't go crazy and put the alter 15 spots from the portal, but make it how you want it and host. I host for my friends and CC I am in and if others come, cool, if not, I will gladly enjoy talking to the steady 10-20 people that chat and train and have fun using my house because I just like to help people.

Luring in pvp, merching clans which dump early and leave followers with excess stock, some staking, begging scam/dicing, risking fighting pvp with ahk's auto eats and combos.. Even people viewbotting phishing on twitch.
Other games have dodgy strategies like boosting, ddos etc but not on the same scale as osrs.

If you're averaging 5m an hour if you're online 24/7 that's 3.6b in a month. 1m = around .50 USD. That's 1800 a month for sitting on your ass doing nothing. If you're smart you won't claim it as income on your taxes and then you can apply for social benefits like food stamps or assisted housing. If you go a step farther and qualify for disability that's around another 500 a month.
All in all if you do everything perfectly you can expect about 2800 bucks a month or 33,600 a year. Considering you're doing practically 0 work I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

As a host in w330 Yanillie I made over 700m+ hosting my altar with just 75 construction best 25m investment I made. Glad I did it and started hosting to help players and in return they helped me. In one night I remember two players big ballers from the duel arena getting their 99 prayer they both traded me 100m then 150m. This was like a year ago. Man I was so happy!! Then lost it all due to staking and pking. But I would get 40ms for like 7 hours of just standing helping other players. Sometimes it’ll be 5 hours dry no one tipping but then I’ll push it for another 5 and get them big baller players to tip out bc I was open for so long. Good times.

Newish POH Host here. I was hosting the last few days and even reached top of the birdhouse ad for many hours. I kicked one player for a very minor attitude problem and he retaliated by sending over a dozen clanmates in my house to harass me, as well as protesting me outside after being kicked claiming I scam players for donations. There were atleast 4 dedicated protest spammers. This went on for over two hours before they ran out of steam.
This decimated my attendance and prompted dozens of players to question me about the claimed scamming. This kind of reputation stab felt like a concentrated effort of cyberbullying due to my sudden popularity and Max house.

I used to host in rs3, it was suuuuper cliquey in the host community, and there was this 1 dude that would rent out his advert bots by the hour and he would literally ddos you for advertising for yourself or if you hired someone else to advert. There were a number of catfish hosts that pretended to be girls to get more donos as well, but the core group of us actually did genuinely like each other and get along, and we'd all support each other by donating leftover advert time, hanging out in each others' houses when we weren't hosting, or sending guests to our friends' houses when we had to stop hosting. It had its shitty parts but it also had some really fun and wholesome stuff too. It's just a matter of perspective.

This post and now video are specific to the hosts in Rimmington. As a part of the Yanille hosting community I just want to set the record straight. First off we are all friends, secondly i have never made more than 500k an hour and my biggest donation was 2m. Yes hosts do it for tips, of course we look for tips, but its not this dark in Yanille. We coordinate with each other and try to ensure there is only one person hosting at a time. What I'm getting at is there isn't this much toxicity in the entire hosting community. Yanille is not nearly this toxic, aside from the occasional foot fetish guy.

From someone who has hosted a bunch also. It really is hit or miss when it comes to donations. Hes really over exaggerating a bit. A lot of hosts are toxic. But there are some there genuinely just to help and chill and hopefully make a little bit of money. Its unfair to label all hosts the way he is. Ive spent many nights and days barely getting any tips whatsoever. Not to mention the host is taking time out of their day to help lots of people save a ton of time and literal mils saved training prayer. With all that money saved, i think its only fair the people using that altar leave a donation to the person sacrafising their time and xp to make cheaper prayer training possible.

Honestly I dont think you articulated well enough. The shady tactics are shit. However, you delivered a message that seems very anti-donation overall. • @mantistoboggan2008
      @mantistoboggan2008 5 лет назад

@omgwtf696969 the majority of players who host maxed houses have spent plenty of time experiencing everything else. They've done the grind....hence the maxed house. And you are right that they could go pvm or whatever else for wealth....and if hosting becomes not worth it because nobody is tipping, they will. And then, no hosts. Better hurry up and drop that 250 mil to max your own poh. Your point is basically that "people need an incentive to spend large amounts of their time in a way that is beneficial to you". Welcome to the world. Perhaps this doesn't apply to you, maybe your a saint. I could use some help around the property, can I expect you to come over and dedicate hours of your day every day helping me for no benefit to you simply because I need the help? Can I come over to your house and use all of your shit because I'm not to the point in life where mine is as nice as yours? One thing that I find interesting is that, to the eyes of the average player who isn't caught up with the reality of just how crazy money farming, real world trading, hacking, and all of these messed up things are in the game's community, a lot of these updates are just dressed up as convenient as opposed to a solution to an ongoing problem. Hey, I'm the host who wrote the original Reddit post this video is based on.
As a person who's just popping in to use the altar and quickly get out, you might not be able to tell tbh. There are things to look for though. From what I saw many of the worst "toxic" hosts had serious drug addictions IRL and/or were incredibly emotionally unintelligent and reactive. If they got mad very easily or would open up to talking about drugs like meth/heroin in private. There's a chance, I guess, that they're one of these hosts. Idk how 2:2 it is though. But it was a definite pattern (with 3 people I'm thinking of)
Also anyone who's beyond cheerful 24/7 and never seems to have any emotionally upbeat down-time. Or considers themselves to be an angelic humanitarian to the OSRS community. Short of never-removing the tip jar and rejecting all trades. MAJOR red flags.
The toxic hosts all put themselves on a pedestal. They also always had people in their house bitching about some drama they probably caused. Although they'd tried very hard to censor this or pull players into other rooms to talk to them away from the other guests.
Those are the main things that come to mind. To truly spot them with ease, you have to be another host or regularly be around them and their house for weeks on end and watch the chat very carefully. Any repetition that takes place, even jokes, is 100% an effort to garner good-will and more donations. It's typically recycled every 1-2 weeks (usually in different time zones), because you know it's not the same people inside your house.

I commented on the original thread and pretty much understood exactly what Orca went through. I had all the same stuff happen and I pulled out when I made a profit from building my house. It's a shame, really, cause there were some really chill people in W330. Orca was one of them, but it was rather obvious when "new hosts" came by and instantly all the other hosts would be barraged by drama and bs, or I'd get rather inane comments about my PoH. I think what pissed hosts off was me telling people how much I was actually making, cause at the time there wasn't many hosts. I told people that I made quite a few mill and even had an old notepad document of people who donated to me. I think I made about 100-150m from just standing around. Was pretty wild, lol. Hopefully this update improved it. I haven't been back since 99 prayer. I might go back at some point for fun, though.

Easy solution. Disable the autotyping function outside of house portals. Force people to use the board. Also have someone look into any Pmod mutes that happen in or around house portals. If they're muting people for nothing, permanent ban. Period, no exceptions. I haven't used someones house for prayer in a long time, but even when I did, I never donated. The people that are donating are perpetuating this kind of behavior, even if its only 5k. There are better alternatives to gilded altars anyway. The chaos altar cuts the cost roughly in half compared to a gilded altar, and ensouled heads are cheaper than that.

I used to host and can confirm that the only money was when you did more than 12 hours, some times hosted for 30 hours. I would have to have a friend keep the burners lit while I went to the toilet or even made food. One day, a host came along and started an argument in my house and decided to hold drop parties in his own, placing his spammer right underneath my own and when I spoke about it in the 07 alter FC, they banned me for "creating drama". I never hosted again as it was too toxic. It was great money at the time but there are easier ways now.

appreciate the content! I'm not a player of rs, but I love this content. A suggestion that would benefit viewers like me would be introducing what the concept of "hosting" is before diving into the video, and instead of referencing "the latest patch", explain the changes from the patch. Thanks!

This whole time I thought hosting was purely just for being friendly. To make it competitive to any degree is utterly bizarre and ridiculous to me. Pathetic too.

P mods can only temp mute, and only under circumstances where the user has spoken recently. If an abusive mute is appealed, p mods are demoted, and sometimes even banned.

JohnoR is still pretty hyped up trying to get a few different house hosts banned. He seems to be the last toxic host left honestly. I’ve personally never seen someone as toxic as that dude.

Yeah I was in a house just the other day and host was obv talking to an alt saying stuff like I'll double any donation and stuff along those lines. And trying to talk some pure into giving ranger set and saying to ask the host that they trust them with a large amount of gold etc
